Holden Beach is known for its reputation as a nesting beach for loggerhead sea turtles. If you visit in July, you might just get the very rare experience of witnessing a âturtle boilâ which is when the babies emerge from their nests buried in the sand and make their way to their new life in the ocean. Hatching season runs anywhere from May to October, with hatchings usually taking place in the late evenings. Volunteers from the Holden Beach Turtle Watch Program guard these nests very carefully, but will gladly alert residents and visitors when a hatching is to be expected. Seeing these cute tiny turtles being born would be an unforgettable experience for both you and your children to enjoy.
