Enter the home onto the grand lanai (porch) which is fully screened in and offers a view of the manicured acre with Hilo Bay views in the distance. Through the front doors you'll be greeted by our huge living room. The original hardwood floors and plantation era architectural details are unique to Hilo homes from the 1920s and 1930s. This huge living area has a game table with board games available, a large flat-screen TV and DVD player, high-speed WiFi internet and luxurious lounging area big enough for your whole family. NOTE: there are no TV channels so bring your streaming login info!

There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms in the home that are artfully decorated with historic representations of 'old Hawaii'. The kitchen at the back of the house is bright and full of windows to take in your Hawaiian landscape. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you may need to cook a big meal or heat up your restaurant leftovers. Seating for 6 at the kitchen table with additional seating on the lanai or at the living room game table.

My Hilo Home is planted with lots of tropical fruiting trees and plants. Enjoy juicy pineapples from our pineapple patch in summer months, tangy lychee from our ancient lychee tree in spring and citrus in the winter. There is also a breadfruit tree for those adventurous travelers who want to try a unique starch (please follow in-house instructions on preparing the difficult fruit!).

Four comfortable bedrooms line one side of the private home. Three of the bedrooms have queen size beds and the fourth has two twin beds (max occupancy is 8 guests). Each of the two bathrooms has a marble shower and one bathroom has a small bathtub. A pack-n-play is available for our guests with babies. The kitchen has an electric cook-top, electric oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and washer/dryer for laundry. All kitchen dishes and small appliances are available for your use. The house is immaculately cleaned between guests (at check-out) and mid-stay cleaning is an optional add-on.

This is a Hawaii County licensed short term rental.

"Beautiful, class Hawaii
The four of us LOVED the Hilo home. I went into the backyard & picked an orange off the tree & two ripe lemons from underneath the tree. The beds were clean & comfortable. No A/C, No problem really! The climate in Hilo is very nice & perfect for open windows. The house is about 3 minutes from Downtown Hilo. Don’t stay in a hotel. Stay at the Hilo House. "

"Lovely plantation house
The house was lovely, with a large sunny kitchen. We spent morning on the porch enjoying the birds! The location is convenient for everything on that side of the island. Everything was as described, with the exception of smoke detectors, which had been removed. Other than that everything was great.!"

"my hilo home

"Best place to stay in Hilo
My wife, two sons, & their wives spent a wonderful 8 nights over Thanksgiving at My Hilo Home. The property was better than described, within walking distance of downtown Hilo. The 1926-built home has a gigantic front lawn and a screened-in gigantic patio with a view of Hilo Bay. Kitchen has all the pots, pans, etc you will need for any meals you decide to cook while you are staying....also a gas grill in a covered gazebo just off of the kitchen. Property was clean, well-maintained, & a fun place to stay. Had a question on keys that was answered quickly by the owner. I highly recommend this place for anyone spending some time in Hilo. As far as dining....read and follow Yelp reviews. "

"Great place to stay for an East island vacation
I stayed here for 4 nights during September whilst visiting the East of the island including Hilo and The Volcanoes National Park along with my wife and son and we all loved the place. The house is full of history and interest with its large open and airy rooms, tall ceilings and huge veranda and we really enjoyed staying here. The kitchen is huge and well stocked (though it takes a while to work out where everything is with so many cupboards). The main living room is huge and wonderful to spend an evening in and the bedrooms are large and all the beds we used were really comfortable.

There is no air con in this house and getting home each evening the place was warm but we found that by opening windows and doors and turning on the ceiling fans the place quickly cooled down and was a very pleasent place to be each evening.

We loved the garden, the views from the property and watching all the local wildlife and whilst the frogs were pretty noisy each evening we quickly got used to it and we all slept well each night.

It was a pleasure dealing with Saltwater who have made the whole process very easy so thank you for that.

All in all it has been a great experience to spend a few days at this lovely property and my family and I would thoroughly recommend a stay here if ever you come to East Hawai’i.

Thank you."

"Hilo stay
We loved this place! The screened in porch was absolutely wonderful for coffee drinking in the morning, afternoon naps and/or dinner in the evening! The house was super clean and comfortable with great natural ventilation. The kitchen was fantastic--huge window with awesome view. This was a bigger place than we usually get for our family since my husband was possibly going to need to spend a bunch of time working---well worth the splurge! Exceeded our expectations! Communication with the owner was fast and super helpful (sadly, no, you're not supposed to feed the sweet cat that hangs out by the back door!)"

"Location, location, location
Our stay at "My Hilo Home" was very pleasant and fulfilled all our expectations. The home is very spacious and comfortable. The seven of us had ample room. We enjoyed the well-lighted and well-appointed kitchen which had all that we needed to prepare meals. The covered and screened deck was a favorite place for the family to have our meals.
We definitely recommend this conveniently located home as a wonderful Hawaiian rental."

"Little Paradise
My family and I love to stay in this house. We enjoy eating breakfast in the nook and dining on the screen porch with the sound of the Coquies and geckos. The place was very clean and comfortable. We felt at home there. Thank you. "

"Our week at My Hilo Home
We enjoyed the old world Hawaii feel of this Hilo home, close enough to walk downtown, far enough away to feel away from it all. "

"Great Location
The rental property in a perfect location that was close to everything in town. The house had a lot of character and was very charming. It felt almost secluded with the location that it was in. Neighbors weren't to close and it was quiet. The only time we needed to contact the property manager for an issue she was on top of it and continued to make our stay very comfortable. "

"Great Stay
We loved our experience at My Hilo Home. The screened in veranda was our favorite place to sit and enjoy the ambiance of this space even when it was raining. The kitchen space was excellent and had all we need to cook. The place was clean and comfortable. The host was so responsive and accommodating to our requests. We would definitely stay there again and have mentioned it to others we know who travel to the Big Island."

"Fabulous Hilo Vacation
Our stay in this lovely house was wonderful. 7 family members staying together and it was great. Plenty of room, great kitchen and the wrap around porch was used every day and night!! Gorgeous view and property!!"

"Beautiful Restored Planation Home
Wonderful vacation home in Hilo foothills. Highly recommend for a family
The home was clean and well cared for. Grounds are lush and absolutely gorgeous. Maybe the best thing about the home is the huge wrap around lanai. It’s completely screened in so nary a mosquito in sight. We discovered that the coffee maker was broken and a quick text to Salt Water Vacations resulted in a new coffee maker being dropped off within a few hours. Great service! The house had everything we needed and lots of comfortable spaces to lounge, huge TV, great views & more. We’d stay there again with family. One note, the four bedrooms connect to each other and two of them connect to a shared bath. The second bath is down the hall and can be used by everyone. "

"Our family's Stay at My Hilo HOuse
This location is very central to Hilo, but just far enough away from the traffic to have quiet dark nights. It is also convenient to all the sights we wanted to see on the East side of the island. The character of the house is all you could hope for in an old plantation home. It felt very clean and well cared for. "

"Beautiful screened in porch
Absolutely beautiful house in a safe neighbourhood. Location was great, it was only a few minutes in the car to the city centre of Hilo.
A large kitcken with every utensil you would need. We cooked mosg nights.
The house was clean and the beds were very comfortable.
We stayed with 2 other couples and we had plenty of room to spread out.
Our favourite part of the house was the screened in porch.
We sat out there every night enjoying the view.
I would definitely recommend staying here."

"Great family week on the Big Island
The Hilo house was big and comfortable with a very pleasant lanai overlooking Hilo Bay where we enjoyed many meals. It felt like an old family vacation home well-stocked with books, games and puzzles, and video screen and plenty of places to sit and read. "

"Family celebration
What a wonderful place to celebrate our daughters graduation from UH Hilo! The home was lovely with lots of space to spread out. Even the kitty (Ua) that lived at the back cottage was friendly and welcoming!
On complaint would be the low quality sheets that kept sliding off the bed!"

"Sehr schönes altes Haus
Ein schönes altes Haus mit sehr viel Platz. Das Highlight ist die Veranda, die zudem rundum mit Fliegengitter verkleidet ist, sodass man auch abends bei Licht ohne lästige Fliegen draußen sitzen kann. Auf unsere Bitte uns noch ein paar Gläser zu bringen, hat Shawna schnell reagiert. Abends kann man mit einem Froschkonzert einschlafen!"

"Wonderful Surprise
We LOVED this home. The charm of this vacation rental can not be beat. The screened in porch was so unique. We wished we had had time to just sit out there and relax. The bedrooms were good size and had compy beds. And the kitchen, oh my goodness, the kitchen was incredible with the many windows that let in so much light. The views from there of the property were fabulous. I told my husband I wouldn't mind cooking if I had those windows with that view. The location was perfect. Tucked away, yet close to where we needed to go. We would stay there again in a heart beat."

"Lovely home
Larger than we expected and fully equipped for our young family. Clean, comfortable and loved the yard. Thanks so much. "

"Spacious home in quiet neighborhood, but convenient to downtown
Family vacation, and this home was great for plenty of space, wonderful lanai, and pleasant area. Enjoyed the birds & night sounds (we thought frogs.)
Big kitchen with nice, basic equipment and convenient laundry. The property manager was very helpful.
Perhaps newer board games? Betty, the neighborhood cat visited daily!
We liked buying produce at the outdoor markets. Restaurants seemed busy, note early closing hours."

"Wonderful Home and location
We had a lovely time in Hilo. The house has great character, was much bigger than we expected and we loved the wide open yard with views of the bay and ocean. It was nice and quiet and also a quick and easy drive to downtown Hilo. Great location. The cat on the property was so sweet and the kids loved petting her. "

"A lovely place to call home for a few days
My family absolutely loved the home; fantastic location, tons of space, huge yard, views for days, and the porch is an absolute DREAM. Shawna was very responsive to all of our questions and Betty was a lovely bonus."

"Plenty of space for a party of 5
My whole party enjoyed staying at this property. Spacious living room, kitchen, and lanai. Also good view from the kitchen window.
Some fruit trees grow on the property, and there's also an outside cat that hangs around. "

"Lovely stay near Hilo
Amazing property. Quiet, private, safe, close to Hilo town. It's a gorgeous space. Plenty big for several couples. The property manager was really quick to respond and very helpful. Loved the screened in porch. Favorite part of the house was Betty, the sweetest little kitty who hangs out by the back door. Will come back and stay just to be able to pet Betty."

"Looking forward to returning!
We had an incredible time at this home! Great location, safe and secure. Close to downtown Hilo and a great starting point for our adventures all around the island. The house was clean and had everything we could need. We laughed so much sitting out on the veranda. Super comfy beds and furniture. We had been worried about no AC, but the fans and cross breezes were perfect. We wish we could have stayed longer felt we would have enjoyed more time just hanging out at this beautiful, nearly 100 year old home!!"

"Was Just Da' Kine Best!
Loved the old world craftsmanship and exceptional layout of this well maintained Plantation Home! The symphony of frogs & birds lent to the peaceful charm and being so close to Hilo yet totally away from the hustle made the location perfect...especially last morning when we had run out of coffee! I was back before anyone else was awake!"

"Fantastic home
Loved the old style home, huge kitchen, comfy master bed. Appreciated the AC portable unit and high quality bedding! Great yard, quiet location."

"felt like grandmas house in the rainforest!
Our family of 5 just spent 3 nights in this house. The porch is amazing. I wish I could be back on it now. I loved all the windows in the kitchen and the bright light coming in in the morning. I loved the fruit trees in the yard, and the friendly young woman that lives in the adjacent garage apartment that helped us cut down a banana tree. I loved the sounds of frogs mixed with rain every evening. It was great that the house had 4 bedrooms so each of our boys got their own space at the end of our trip after a lot of togetherness.
I did not love the lizards and bugs, but I understood ahead of time that they would be present in the house, as they likely are in any rental in the area. The biggest negative for us by far was the bed in the master bedroom. The house was advertised as having 3 queen beds but actually has 3 full beds. The master bed is also "bouncy" and the pillows were cheap and flat - only 2 flat pillows on the master. There was a better pillow in the closet but no pillowcase. I didn't sleep well at this location because of small uncomfortable bed, but. new queen or king sized bed with high quality linens would make this a 5 star stay for me. Also would not recommend trying to use the oven in the summer. I had it on for over an hour to try to cook a breadfruit picked in the yard. There is no vent for the oven, so makes the kitchen extremely hot very fast.
Overall, I loved the experience of staying in the house and did not regret this choice, but I personally would not choose to stay there again unless they get a new bigger bed in the master. "

"Gracious and comfortable home
We enjoyed staying here to explore the Hilo side of the island. It felt like we were staying in old Hawaii. Our favorite place to hang out was the screened lanai - our daughter did her remote school with "the best background ever". The bedrooms were comfortable and there was plenty of room for everyone. We did have a problem with the hot water and the oven, but it was addressed very quickly. The kitchen could stand an update, but it is spacious and the views of the bay from the windows are wonderful. The home was very clean and had plenty of towels and some extras like aloe for after the beach. Comfortable furniture. We especially liked Richardson Beach Park, we visited the volcano and the Waipio Valley. "

"A beautiful home
We had a group of 5 adults and 2 children stay at the home for 4 nights. We all really loved the house! The furniture is gorgeous and the neighborhood very quiet. We had an issue with the power in one room the first day, but the property managers were very quick to respond and fix the issue. So glad we stayed here! "

"Great house with lots of space
This house was perfect for us. Old Hilo plantation style house that's beautifully decorated. It easily and comfortably fit two families (7 people) with plenty of space to lounge, including an amazing screened in lanai (porch). It has a large kitchen with a gorgeous view of Hilo Bay. The house is conveniently located, a minute or two drive to downtown Hilo. The property managers were very accommodating and helpful. Thank you for sharing your Hilo home, we enjoyed the space, location, and comfort!"
