Shangri-La is a beautiful Bahamian home, located on Old Banks Road, steps from the Atlantic Ocean. The house is surrounded by coconut palms and a meadow that stretches to the Atlantic Ocean. Walk two minutes from the wrap around deck and a magnificent ocean view unfolds.

Upon arriving to Eleuthera, our property managers will meet you at the Banana Beach Estates gate. You will be greeted with complimentary Bahamian drinks and appetizers. Our staff is utterly lovely and they make every effort to make sure you are well taken care of. Save on booking fees by reserving through and paying the owner directly.

Once you enter Shangri-La you will be welcomed by the airiness of the twenty-eight foot ceiling and coastal decor. The open concept living, dining, and newly remodeled kitchen will allow you to enjoy your vacation with all your family. Enjoy the smart tv with access to your Netflix account or use our new Fire Stick with numerous international and local channels as well as free Pay Per View movies. Connect to the web by way of free internet.

The two, large bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms. The master suite has a king size four poster bed, while the second suite has two queen sleigh beds. The master suite has a beautifully renovated ensuite washroom with a large walk-in glass shower. Eleutheran conch shells are embedded in the shower floor. Custom woodworking, by a local craftsman, completes the coastal theme. For those who need extra sleeping space, the open loft has a queen and twin bed. A third washroom, with a washing machine, can be found on the main floor. An additional shower is located outside to rinse off beach sand.

Shangri-La is equipped with ceiling fans and air conditioning throughout. Both bedrooms have a/c units, and the loft has a new a/c which cools the loft and below. Beautiful linens, bath and beach towels have been chosen with attention to quality. The coastal furniture, linens, and Bahamian artwork make for an authentic island getaway.

The kitchen is equipped with cookware, cutlery, coastal dishes, spices, and tropical glassware. The dining room table accommodates six people and additional seating for two at the breakfast peninsula.

The wrap around deck is a perfect spot for listening to the ocean's waves, grilling dinner, and enjoying al fresco meals on the outdoor dining table. Children can enjoy playing on the grass, exploring the neighborhood, or taking walks along this safe cottage road. Relax on the two-person hammock and read a book or have a nap while the palm trees sway in the breeze. Enjoy the quiet and relaxing atmosphere of Shangri-La away from any crowds.

A short walk along the path will take you to a deserted, white sand beach that extends for miles. Bring along Shangri-La's beach chairs and cooler. Spend your day in the turquoise water enjoying swimming, snorkeling, watching the dolphins, or beachcombing. You’re likely to be the only people there. A short drive away is French Leave Beach, Twin Coves, Naval Beach, and the calm waters of Cocodimama.

A ten-minute walk takes you to Sky Beach Club and Pascal's Restaurant, FREE access to the infinity pool, hot tub, and swim-up bar. Ask Sammy to make you one of his famous Bahamian drinks. Plus, Shangri-La is only a few minutes' drive from the lovely town of Governor's Harbour, with its century homes, selection of restaurants, and stores.

For larger groups we offer additional rooms in our guest cottage. Orchid Cottage has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and an open concept living and dining area. Each property offers nice privacy, with large palm trees and foliage between the two. This allows a larger group extended space and privacy to celebrate a special occasion.

Enjoy a catered meal and Bahamian cocktails at Shangri-La. The caterers will shop for local seafood and produce, prepare the meal, and provide clean up. A Bahamian experience that will be enjoyed.

Governor's Harbour is the main town on the island of Eleuthera, with a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Eleuthera is most famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is safe and friendly. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks and bikes. There is excellent sightseeing, as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, and a bottomless ocean hole.

"The PERFECT beach
This home is exactly as the photos show-creatively designed and nicely appointed. The myriad ceiling fans were usually enough--we only turned the AC on to sleep. The house has a coffee maker and plenty of dishes. The knives in the kitchen do need to be sharpened. There are a million towels and pillows and linens to choose from. Driving thru 2 gates to get to the house made us feel safe. The cottage on site is clearly separated from the main house--plenty of privacy. We tried many other beaches but in the end the beach around the corner from this house was ideal: clean, empty, long and pink. The water was calm and clean and warm--so easy to bob around with a noodle and just talk. We saw turtles, rays and small sharks. The house had many beach chairs, noodles and an umbrella. The beach was ideal and lovely. We appreciated the outdoor shower after the beach. The insects are no joke so spray the second you step outside and reapply. We reported a few minor issues which were resolved quickly. I would stay here again--you won't find a nicer beach on Eleuthera."

"Lovely stay
Shangri-la was a lovely, comfortable home centrally located on Eleuthera. Our neighbors were delightful and introduced us to the house and property. Lachadra, the property manager, was very helpful and welcoming. (We also rented a car from her company, Cadet Rentals, and were pleased.) Something to be aware of when you visit Eleuthera is that the power grid can be sketchy. We experienced several power outages during our time on the island--we had forgotten about this. We felt fortunate that the layout of the house was open and there were screen doors we could open for ventilation. We kept the bedroom doors closed so the cool air would not escape and this worked out well. I will admit to being a smidge jealous of another neighbor's generator. lol. The house was comfortable and exactly what we needed--highly recommended!"

"a week in Shangr-La
My group of 4 stayed at Shangri-La for a week. The house was very clean, well kept, and the perfect size for our group. We had an issue with the washing machine and when I contacted the owner, she sent someone out the next day. Unfortunately the machine was not fixed but we had plenty of towels to use the rest of the week. The beach was just a short walk across the street and was stunning. I would stay here again!"

"FANTASTIC stay at Shangri-La Villa
We had the pleasure of staying at this lovely villa for 2 glorious weeks. We were a group of 4 and stayed here very comfortably. It could easily accommodate more. We found the place incredibly tidy and clean and extremely well maintained. The kitchen was very well-equipped with everything you need for meals cooked in. It was complete with an outdoor gas barbecue. All systems functioned to an exceptional level including the gas oven, air conditioning units and we so appreciated the consistent water pressure and constant ceiling fans to help with air circulation. We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay, just minutes from a beautiful beach. We would definitely entertain a subsequent visit. Thanks so much to the house manager Lachadra and her team. "

"Fabulous
Our home was awesome. It was clean, had everything we needed and was a home you could relax in and truly enjoy. The Beach, just a hop skip and a jump away was one of the most perfect beaches I have ever seen. In two weeks we saw a total of 6 other people on it. The owner, Shawna, couldn’t have made our trip any more pleasant and Eleuthera rentals takes the worry out of renting, Pam is. awesome. If you like quiet and peace this is the place for you. The locals are so friendly and helpful you can’t help but feel at home. Food is a sticker shock, so if you can, bring some along with you."

"Just when we thought paradise couldn't get any better...
Our family has stayed at several homes in different parts of Eleuthera (and the Cove and Sky
Beach) over the years and Shangri-La was hands down our favorite. It is located conveniently close to the Governor's Harbour Airport and Governor's Harbour. We have found that this is central on the island and allows us to explore both north and south. Although it is not located directly on the beach, it was so close it might have well as been. This is nice for those beach days when you want to make a three minute walk back to the house for forgotten sunscreen, a hat or maybe just another cold Kalik. The property was perfect for 5 adults...there was enough space that we were not stepping on each other and we spent many hours on the lovely, spacious deck. The home was well equipped with everything we needed. I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat. "

"Beautiful Eleuthera Home
Shangri-La is the perfect place to spend a vacation on the island. The property is just steps away to an incredible beach that we felt like we had all to ourselves for miles. The house has tons of space and with two teenagers they could spread out if they wanted. The kitchen is well appointed which was great for in-home meals and cooking. We loved the furnishings and décor and all the special touches. Shawna was an excellent host -- she was attentive and responsive to our needs and questions and appreciated all the information, recommendations and tips she provided before our arrival and during our stay. The caretake, Lachadra, was so helpful as well. The location was ideal; only a short drive from the GHB airport, a short drive into town, and great starting point to explore the island. We can't wait to return! "

"Perfect escape in Eleuthera
The house was in a perfect position just behind Banana beach. A minutes walk.. No roads to cross.. We could not have asked for a better house and location. A lovely coastal path along old Banks road also and a short walk to Pascal's Retaurant. The house had a beautiful island feel. Simple yet homely and great for kids. Communication before and during our stay was fantastic. "

"Perfect place for a relaxing getaway!
This was the perfect place to spend a week's vacation to relax and truly wind down. Travel options in 2020 had to be thought through carefully and we were glad to find Shangri-La. The property is in a private gated community. We were surprised at how short a walk it is to the beautiful beach from the property – the owners have thought of everything as beach chairs, shades, toys, floats were kept available to use for the perfect beach day.
The week we were there, there were a few days when it rained and overcast – however, we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything as Shangri-La has tons of space which allowed everyone to spread out in the wide open areas or spend time hanging out in one of the rooms or cozy loft area to enjoy a book.
The kitchen is well appointed with every appliance that we needed for the stay. Tons of linens and towels are available to really make you feel at home. The furnishings and décor were really well thought out and gave us that out-island, pure vacation getaway feel!
The property was very clean and the owners and caretakers vigilant about Covid protocols as sanitizer and wipes were available – we really felt comfortable and safe on arrival and throughout our stay.
Shawna was an excellent host as she provided tons of information about her favourite spots and places to visit. She was very attentive to our needs and responded quickly to any questions we had to make sure that everything was meeting our needs and expectations. Lachadra was amazing also – she made sure we had her number in case we needed to ask her about anything on-island and was so gracious in providing some welcome refreshments and homemade ice cream.
I would highly recommend this gem of a property to anyone visiting Eleuthera! The property is well located, only a short drive from the airport and a short drive into town. We would not hesitate to stay here again and hope to visit again very soon!

"Island Home - Benissimo!
This home is simply terrific. Have stayed on this property for 5 years running. It is only about 100 yards to walk to the beach along a clear but lush pathway AND a short road or beach walk to PASCAL'S restaurant and Sammy's Bar. The property is maintained with excellence - clean, bright well appointed. Nice linens and bath items throughout. Some folding beach chairs welcome for visits to the incredible (and extremely uncrowded) beaches. The local management personnel are a breath of fresh air in that they are very friendly and accommodating - they truly want your stay to be a vacation and stress free. Cannot recommend this spot highly enough. We will return next year, and the next year, and......"

"Outstanding
This was my third trip to Eleuthera and this rental was my favorite. Not just in eleuthera, as i travel outside the US alot and always rent from Homeaway. This was the best property i have ever rented. First of all the location was perfect. Easy to explore the whole island. The house has everything you need and everything you didnt know you needed.beachchairs, umbrellas, floats, snorlkle gear, cooler etc. Also they have 5 gallon water jugs which are so convenient to refill at the local gas station. The house was large and had room for more then our party of 4. Could easily accommodate 8. The outside deck was large with a gas grill we used for all our dinners. The beach was the best part. So easy to get to. Just right down the path in front of the house. This review would not be complete without mentioning Chad. She was our caretaker while we were there. She can arrange anything you need. We had her stock our fridge with beer for us before we got there. Also rent a car from Chad and her husband Barry. All i can say is Wow! Bravo. Outstanding. This house is the best! You will see me again."
