Nearby Activities in Waikoloa

When you rent a beach house or condo in Waikoloa, located on the west side of Hawaii's Big Island, you can enjoy tropical weather year-round and there will always be plenty of ways to explore the area. The best time of year to book an oceanfront home is from late May to early October, particularly for warm weather activities. Waikoloa is primarily a resort destination but has one fun fact that makes it genuinely Hawaiian; the village was built on top of a lava field! A towering volcano sits just 30 miles from the village, called Mauna Kea. While the volcano is currently dormant, its eruptions created a path to the ocean.

Things To Do in Waikoloa

Most Fun Things to Do in Waikoloa: Visit the Unique 49 Black Sand Beach - Unlike many other beaches in the area, 49 Black Sand Beach is true to its name with black sand covering its shores, a result of fine grains of lava. This provides a stark contrast to the clear blue water. When the ocean is calm, go snorkeling and take a look at tropical fish, tidepools, and underwater rock formations. "Quiet and Peaceful Waikoloa Getaway
This is probably the quietest place I've stayed in Hawaii. The screened in lanai with plants outside makes you feel like your living outside. The walkout basement style apartment was comfortable. The bed was soft and comfortable. There isn't any air conditioning or heat in this apartment, but it stayed comfortable enough for us in April. It was probably 75 degrees in the apartment most of the time. There are only windows on one side of the apartment, so you can't get a cross breeze to cool it off. We just left the louvered windows open all night. The sound of sprinklers in the middle of the night may wake you up if you do that though. We still slept great and enjoyed our stay. We would stay here again. "

"Waikoloa Villiage
My stay in this condo was great! The area was beautiful and the condo was very clean & well equipped with normal household items (pots & pans, linens, etc). It was very enjoyable to wake up with such a view every morning. It was also very peaceful. I can’t wait to stay again!!"

"Loved it!!
This condo is located in a very nice, quiet area up the mountain from Waikoloa. Great sunset location. It is easy to get to the beaches and restaurants that are oceanfront. The early morning was very enjoyable, watching birds (including some crazy turkeys), condo had everything we needed. Would have preferred air conditioning though, but managed by keeping the windows open and a fan blowing the cooler evening air into the condo. Beach chairs and great beach umbrella were included. Furniture in unit is a little older. The lanai area could use some maintenance. Management was very prompt on doing a repair when notified them one evening."

"Stop Looking, You've Found It.
This was a peaceful and yet centrally located home away from home. The KTA and Island Lava Java are within walking distance or a very, very short drive. The ocean is within view but you can drive downhill and touch sand in about 15-20 minutes. The management company was responsive and caring in their communications. I personally love to cook when I am on vacation, and the kitchen has so much to offer. It was one of the better-stocked kitchens I have used in a rental. I would definitely stay here again!"

"Simple Peaceful Retrea
This studio apartment is located in a very peaceful setting. Virtually no traffic noise. Great view of the Kona coast. Furnishings and utensils are quite basic but sufficient for our needs."

"golf holiday
We originally thought we were booking a condo in the localty we now know is Waikola Beach resort area eg Fairway Villas. we discovered our booked condo was 15kms away. Confusion abounds because local brochures refer to the beach resort as Waikola Village. Our essential requirement was that the condo be located on a golf course .. which it was."

"Jan. 4-12, 2023
Very enjoyable stay on the Big Island. Upper Waikoloa is a great location--quiet, with good access to other areas of the Island.
The condo has a super view of the golf course and ocean. It had plenty of room for the two of us, and the washer/dryer and kitchen were a plus. However, the furnishings should be evaluated. The bars tools are too tall and lanai furnishings are too low. Also, the steps leading down to the entry are awkward and need more lighting after dark.
During our stay we had a problem with the Internet. The Knudsen team were fantastic in their efforts to solve the issue. "

"Quiet, cozy studio with Gorgeous View
The charm of this rental is its location but the drawback is lots of deferred maintenance. Once the plumbing issues are resolved, it will become a hidden gem once again."

"Beautiful and peaceful place
We had a lovely stay at Waikoloa condo. We loved the surroundings and the view is amazing. If you like to be away for tourist hustle surrounded with nature and sea view than this is the place to be."

"A Lovely Place to Rest and Renew
My husband and I stayed in this vacation condo for a month of rest and rejuvenation. We loved the location and waking up each morning to the songs of the birds and the ocean breeze. Sunsets every night were absolutely beautiful. It was quiet for the most part even being right on the golf course's 16th hole. There were multiple things that weren't great: we'd seen them mentioned in other reviews but it doesn't appear that owner or management are inclined to make any improvements to update the unit. The property is worn and dated. The bed was comfortable, but all the other furniture was not. There is a leak in the wall in the hallway that would periodically cover the floor. As we didn't want to deal with maintenance issues during our stay (been there, done that), we let it go. The kitchen feels like it was equipped through goodwill. Utensils, pots and pans, etc. all pretty cheap, more like camping. Not a kitchen set up for cooking but ok. Since we cook our own meals, we found cooking frustrating. The kitchen is also small and inconveniently organized: you can't open one of the drawers in the kitchen because the fridge is in the way. Lots of little things like this. It desperately can use a dishwasher. The W/D is old and small and doesn't particularly clean well. The chairs that sit around the dining table are poorly sized so if you don't pile them with cushions, you are sitting 12" lower than the table. There really was no truly comfortable place to just sit. For those spending a few days, I'm sure none of this would be a significant issue. For those spending longer (like us), we became more aware of what was lacking. The television is tiny and poorly positioned; if it was mounted on the wall, instead of stored in a cabinet, at least you could face it in the direction of the couch. All in all, the place needs work but we adored our time here, nonetheless. A little TLC would go a long way to make this condo so much more. But we'd still go back again :-))"

"Private Getaway
We loved E10! Tucked away at the end of the walkway, with a stunning view of the golf course, the Kohala land and ocean beyond. It had all the amenities we needed, equipped kitchen, closet full of beach equipment, and comfortable bed. As a retired couple it was a perfect central spot in which to go out every day and explore the Big Island.Never used any of the facilities, swimming pool, tennis or golf. Glad there was the grocery store near by."

"Nice views
It was fine, poor location, people always coming and going on a golf course a few feet away, difficult to find the location at night initially, ants"

"Great views and very peaceful
Well maintained property with wonderful views of the green golf course, ocean and sunsets! Grocery store, restaurants and gas all less than a mile away. Spacious lanai to sit and enjoy the breeze and watch all the different birds. Easy drive to Waikoloa beach and shops. Full kitchen for cooking and the washer and dryer are a great plus! Communication with property management was stellar!"

"Great place for our 25th anniversary!
Cozy place in a great quiet location with fabulous views. A dishwasher would have been nice but not necessary with just the two of us. We were able to buy some essentials for the place, rice cooker and Brita water filter pitcher, and get reimbursed. The property manager, Blake, was very responsive."

"Big Island base
We stayed in this studio to be close to family in Waikoloa Village. Nice location for us. Having the golf course and distant ocean view was a plus. Condo was clean and well set-up, the bed is comfortable. We were able to check in early, which was appreciated. The one “negative” is that the seating for dining is very uncomfortable. The barstools are too high for the counter in the kitchen, and on the lanai, the chairs are all too low for the table. "

"Big Island
The number of steps one had to descend to reach unit was not adequately addressed in property description. The furnishings and kitchen ware are in great need of updating."
