"What you see is what you get
We‘ve had a really lovely time at Kahaualea Cottage. The pictures and descriptions are on par with reality. The property is well kept and the lushness of nature around you is awesome. Be prepared that there are no blinds on the windows which we found a bit bothersome in the mornings as we don‘t rise with the sun. And if you are a light sleeper make sure to pluck your ears — as the sun begins to set the coqui frogs start to make a ruckus and they are at it all night long. We got used to it quite quickly, however, and it added to the charm of it all.
The cottage’s location is ideal for exploring the Volcanoes National Park as its entrance is just a few miles up the road.
In Volcano Village you‘ll find some eateries, a gas station and a small general store.
We felt very comfortable in this little haven in the „jungle“, would stay here again and definitely recommend it."

"Jungle House
We had a great week in the house. The on island contact was helpful and always available. The surrounding is really unique.
What you need to know is that there is the coqui frog in the area which is nocturnal and very loud. We slept with earplugs."

"Most Delightful Little Cottage Ever
Stunning experience! Perfect location near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and close enough to Hilo to visit there, too. The cabin is stunning, as are its surroundings -- peaceful, tranquil, beautiful. In the day, feel warm breezes and smell the flowers. In the evening, hear sweet birdsong and check out the stars. The cabin is well set up to live, and live well, for your time, with a functional kitchen and beautiful bathroom. The place feels all your own, and you can't even see any other house from it, even though you're just a short drive off the main road. Exceptional place!"

"A Cottage in the Jungle
I loved this little cottage. The kitchen and bathroom were very nice. The pillows were the best I've ever had in a rental or hotel. It was a nice size for two, although I was there on my own. There weren't any curtains on any windows but I felt I was hidden in the jungle. Be aware the tap water is filtered rain water and some don't like the taste, although I didn't mind it. "

We enjoyed our stay at the Volcano Kahaualea Cottage. After spending several nights in Kona on the shoreline, staying here let us experience the lush greenery and cooler temperatures of the eastern side of the island. We enjoyed the proximity to Volcano National Park. Our interactions with the property management company were great. "

"Great Cottage!
My husband and I loved this private, little cottage! The yard is lush, beautiful, and well maintained. There are tons of windows and they all slide open and have screens, it was very pleasant during the day to have all the windows open. The nights get cool in Volcano and there is a heater in the faux fireplace; however, there is not a ceiling fan to push the warm air down. Having access to a washer and dryer was awesome. We were lucky enough to be here when Kilauea erupted for 12 hours one night and you could see the sky glowing from the bedside window! This cottage was nice and clean except for the loveseat which needs a professional cleaning (or a slipcover). The property manager reached out before our arrival so that we had her contact info in case of any issues, I only had one question during our stay and she replied quickly. I would definitely stay here again!"

"Peaceful retreat close to VNP.
Stayed here for four nights, and would definitely return given the opportunity. Property was easy to find, and extremely peaceful. Bring a flashlight if arriving after dark, as the cottage is deep in the property. "

"Volcano Kahaualea Cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage. Cottage was cozy and comfortable with all the amenities you need. Communication from property manager was great. The cottage is located down a gravel road on 3 acres and is surrounded by ferns and trees. Although there are neighbors, they are not easily visible from the cottage and you’ll feel like you are all alone in a rainforest. The electric fireplace is a special treat on the cool evenings. Easy commute to the Volcanoes National Park or Volcano Village. Try the Ohelo Cafe in Volcano Village for dinner. Delicious! We look forward to returning to stay at this cottage again. "

"Very Secluded Modern Cozy Cottage
The cottage is in a very peaceful setting. There are other houses nearby but quite far away. You have to purposefully look for them to see them and didn't hear anything from any of them. Great location for exploring Volcanoes National Park and the south side of the island. The frogs can be a bit loud at night but if it bothers you turn on the dehumidifier. That drowns them out nicely. Had a great stay and hope to return someday."

This is a beautiful cottage in a quiet and peaceful setting. Lots of flowers. Interior decor very tasteful. Immaculately clean and all necessary amenities. Very convenient to volcanoes NP. The only disappointment was very slow WiFi but not critical for us."

"Perfect volcano stay for two
My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights while visiting Volcano National Park. We loved this place! It was tastefully designed and felt cozy. The fireplace was a great touch. The bathroom and shower were nice. We were also happy to have a washer and dryer. They have a fairly well stocked kitchen other than no coffee when we first got there. Everything was clean and in working order. The rainforest is loud at night but we did not mind it. The WiFi was very spotty and there is no internet out there otherwise, so be mindful if you require constant internet for any reason. We were unable to load Netflix, Hulu, etc at times. We would definitely stay here again and overall highly recommend this as the perfect volcano stay for two!"

"Pleasant Cottage In the rainforest...
We had a great Christmas and New Years Eve at Volcano Kahaualea Cottage. The Christmas gift basket was great, the cottage was neat and tidy. The staff was courteous and helpful. we loved having the washer, dryer unit to do our laundry so we had one less thing to do after an overnight flight home.
To have such wonderful peace and quiet made the stay very relaxing. The view of the forest in every direction was breath taking. The location is great for visiting the Hilo area and Volcano National Park.
Go and have a great stay!"

"Lovely location
Absolutely fantastic place! Exactly as pictured. The kitchenware was not clean and we had to wash everything prior to using it. That was the only negative of our two days there. If that could be addressed, we would certainly stay again. We live on maui and plan to continue spend our thanksgivings in volcano. "

"Jungle escape
Wonderful little place in the middle of the cloud forest close to the Volcano National Park. This little cottage is made for two, but worked very well for 2 as well. It is so carefully put together, with a bit of luxury that is an interesting contrast to the wild forest surrounding. Place was clean, in great condition, contacting manager was easy, I'd go there again."

"Quiet, Cozy Jungle Cottage
The cottage is tucked in the jungle and is very quiet. All you hear are the coqui frogs or the occasional wild pig grunting. It was clean and cozy. The gas fireplace is nice on cool evenings. Great jump off point to explore Volcano NP, which is less than 10 minutes away. "

"Honeymoon Trip
How many "wow's" can one fit into a review? This cabin was incredible! You literally felt like you were in a rainforest every morning - because you will be! It's luscious green everywhere, with wildlife that walks right up to the back door. This was my husband's and I third and final spot during our honeymoon and the tranquility of this cabin was undeniable. We stopped into Hilo to do some light shopping on the second day and that was an enjoyable short drive. Along with the volcano park tour we took! Beautiful secluded stay!"

"Great for Quick Stay Around Volcanoes National Park
Wonderful rainforest experience near Volcano. Had a great time. Property manager highly responsive, property well-appointed. Be aware that you're in the rain forest and treat/plan accordingly -- it takes a few minutes to lock up and leave, the road is unfinished, and Volcano isn't open 24/7. The internet isn't as fast as it is in other places, and that's ok. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place to jump to Volcanoes National Park."

"Volcano Cottage
This rental house was great. We really enjoyed the secluded spot and proximity to the volcano. One thing that we did not enjoy was the "cute family of pigs" on the property. We were told about the pigs, but were unaware they enjoyed being under the house and are semi-nocturnal. They woke us up several times during our two night stay. The house itself was amazing, and there isn't much you can do about wildlife, but it may be worth asking about the pig status before you book if you are a sensitive sleeper. Internet was also not great if you plan to use it for work or streaming."

"Review
Nice setting....very private. Only issue was washing machine was inoperable. Upon inquiry, the property manager said she had communicated a couple weeks before our arrival that machine did not work. Upon checking my email I found the email she referenced but it didn’t mention machine. Other than that miscommunication all other communications were prompt and clear. We had a short stay, so it wasn’t a big deal. Good welcoming book instructions and directions to the place."

"Cozy little cottage
We enjoyed our stay. Cottage was clean, secluded and private. Having a real kitchen was great. Plenty of hot water, comfortable bed. Internet was spotty and sheets/towels were a little musty, but it's a damp environment. Location near Volcanoes NP was perfect for us! "

"Cool Place!
We loved our time here. This was our last place on a six week, four island trip and was the perfect ending spot for us. The location gave us easy access to Volcano National Park which is an amazing place to explore for days and the little town of Volcano is close for food and supplies (Kilauea Lodge and the Thai food truck highly recommended). We did go to the top of Mauna Kea from here which made for a long day but the drive, by way of Hilo, was an easy one with little traffic. The place itself is really special too. It's very modern, comfortable, open and spacious with so many windows you feel like you're outside in the jungle but safely sheltered. It's very quiet and peaceful here. The surrounding jungle with the huge ferns and Ohi'a trees seem very primitive and native Hawaiian. You almost expect a dinosaur to walk past the window. You see a lot of nature here too including pigs and Kalij pheasants and wild orchids and other exotic flowers. Just a wonderful place. Mahalo"

"Great hidden getaway close to Volcano park!
We loved our stay at the Volcano Kahaualea Cottage! Very nice and clean with a great kitchen. Good for cooking at home since Hilo is a bit of a drive. Volcano Park is only a few minutes away and we were so excited to get to see the lava at both day and night. Highly recommend this stay!"

The cottage is PERFECT! It is so charming and cozy! The location is great for visiting Volcano National Park, the waterfalls around Hilo, and the green and black sand beaches! We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Big Island!"
