"Family Vacation 2025
Our rental experience was pretty amazing! I WISH the check out was one more hour (10am check out was a challenge) but the clean up list/requests wasn’t crazy.
The condo was stocked with lots of essentials in the kitchen. They also had several hairdryers and curling irons, so save room in your bags and leave yours home!
Was kinda bummed both snorkel masks in the condo leaked. The umbrella was also flimsy and just blew inside out. One of the lawn chairs was also broke. The boogie boards were fun! Definitely check out the gear first day so you can go rent gear that you need.
The place was clean and was in a great location! Bed was a bit uncomfortable, and had a piece of plywood to give it more structure? Living room couch SUPER rock hard and uncomfortable. "

"Delightful Stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Papakea! The access to a washer and dryer was very nice. We loved sipping coffee on the lanai each morning watch the sea and sunshine and sometimes rainbows. The beds were very comfy. We did not have a problem but travelers need to know that the bedrooms are not air conditioned. The option of fans and open windows worked well. "

"Big Disappointment
This was the third time that I rented a unit from and I’ve always found the units to be exceptional, but not this time. The unit’s location was perfect! It had a view of the water, captured the morning sun, and was shaded in the heat of the afternoon.
However, the unit was far beyond shabby, it was very rundown. The appliances were very old and only one small burner worked on the stove. The dishwasher was so old that the writing was worn away so we couldn’t read which cycle was which! In addition, the appliances had years of built up crud in the crevices. The kitchen tile was broken and the grout also had years of built up crud in it. The cupboard fronts had the same issue. The coffee pot was so rusted it was gross. We needed fans for the bedrooms, but they were full of dark gray globs of dust. When we turned one on it bounced across the floor because it had a broken blade! The salad spinner was so old it had a turn handle which immediately broke off because the plastic was so deteriorated. The coffee mugs were so old that ALL of them had a gray mosaic etched into the bottom! Also, several of the towels were ragged and the hems were unraveling.
The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were clean, although the tiled floors throughout the unit had the same issue of built up gunk in the grout.
Unfortunately, in its current condition, I cannot recommend this unit to anyone. I hope that these issues can be addressed because it’s such a lovely location!"

We loved staying here! Location is ideal! We loved walking fom the unit to the beach, to the pool then to the food trucks for dinner. The unit was clean, quit and private with a beautiful view of the koi pond and the beach. We highly recommend and will be back!"

"Excellent West Maui condo
Very comfortable ground floor unit! This unit had everything we needed and provided for a wonderful family vacation! It was clean and quiet and a neural location for West Maui adventures. We utilized the barbecues often with the ocean view while our food cooked! It’s not advertised with an ocean view, but from the lanai there is a decent view. There are three TV’s in this unit but not a one was turned on during our stay!"

"Completely adequate stay...
We've been staying at Papakea for a couple weeks in the winter for over a decade with the exception of winter 2021 due to covid. We've stayed in several different units, we always enjoy our time and love this low density resort. This unit is fine, adequate, will do. It definitely has some deferred maintenance that is pretty disappointing with a unit in this price range(the stove is missing buttons, the towel rack in the master fell off the wall if you touched the towel on it). The appliances, finishes and furniture were likely part of the original "package" that could be purchased to furnish the unit and are very overdue for an upgrade. Will we be back to Papakea? YES! Will we rent this unit again? No. We moved to another unit (we added another week and this one was booked already) and for a lower rate have a signficantly upgraded unit. "

"Great unit, getting a little worn around the edges
Our two weeks at J103 were great. The location remains ideal and we love the small nature of the Papakea. We had all the basics that you need in Hawaii, but there were some small details that might matter to some - for example, the cabinets are getting quite worn, there are places where the paint and tile don't match, the couch is uneven, etc. To me, these are small things and in no way interfered with our stay and enjoyment of the unit, but I have enjoyed higher quality at other units in the Papakea resort."

"Clean, Comfortable, Quiet, Lovely Condo!
Overall condo was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Kitchen was stocked with all of the essentials which made it quite easy for our family to make all our favorite meals. Beds were clean and comfortable. Was surprised on how spacious the condo feels. Overlooking a beautiful koi pond was an added bonus. The pool was close enough for my kids to easily get to.
My one and only disappointment was the air conditioning. The air conditioner is located in the main living area and does not flow into the bedrooms or bathrooms. Unfortunately, we were there in Hawaii at a very humid time. After our long days in the Hawaiian sun, sleeping in those rooms were a bit uncomfortable.
The rental managers were awesome and very kind.

Is it a contemporary beach house? No. That isn’t Papakea. That really isn’t the West Side of Maui. Go to Wailea if that’s what you’re after.
J103 is a perfect unit for families that are trying to enjoy West Maui for what it is. Beautiful, easy going, welcoming... ALOHA. We stayed for 11 days and really felt at home the whole time.
Pros
Good amount of glassware, plates, mixing bowls, utensils, tools. Cheese Grader, spatulas, knives. Hand Juicer would have been nice, so bring one if that’s your thing for making cocktails! Or just use your hands :) blender works great, so does the large coffee maker.
Cable TV, Netflix, WiFi. We were here during the NBA and NHL Playoffs, and it was nice to know we could watch in room if we wanted. But we just made the 3 minute walk next door to watch at the bar with Mark, Annie and Jordan at the Beach Club.
Great food options nearby. Paradiso Pizza (and gelato) Fish Market, Ono, bad *** Coffee, Açaí bowls next door, food trucks in the lot next door, Java Jazz... and more! All very close walking distance. And a super market, too!
Ground floor. This is huge. So nice to walk out to pool, beach, etc out your patio and not worry about a key or any of that. 4 top patio table and lounge chair is nice too.
Beach chairs, 2 floaters, pool toys, sand castle toys, pack and play, high chair. All in the room. Grocery bags too.
Washer and dryer. They work great.
Air conditioner works great, although master does get hot - the ceiling fans and provided box fans help with that.
Cons
Hide a bed is trash and should be replaced. This should not be called a bed for an adult, let alone two. It’s so bad and has no business being in service any longer. Luckily it was a single 30 yo male who just put it away and slept on the couch cushions.
Rooms get hot. See above.

"Great rental, good location
Papakea Resort was very well kept and the resort grounds were very pretty. The unit we stayed in was very clean and for the most part updated and in good condition. Papakea is located about a 10 minute drive from Lahaina and about 35 minutes from Kahului. We would stay here again.
NOTE: I would suggest getting the vacation insurance to anyone going to the Islands. While we were there, there was an incident with a driver, three telephone poles and a palm tree (!) that resulted in our electricity being out for about 16 hours. We were sleeping or gone most of that time so no big deal, but if it had been longer that could have been an issue for our vacation. Just some advice."

The Papakea grounds and staff were fantastic! I would definitely stay at Papakea again. However, I would not stay in this particular unit again. It was cheap, and that's why I chose it. Let the buyer beware, as they say. The unit had all the usual stuff... furniture, dishes, towels, laundry, etc. But the problem was with the cleanliness. A few examples were the gecko in our bathroom, our blackened feet from the floors, a cockroach (as big as my pinkie) in our bedroom, mold spots on the outside of the master bath shower curtain (which I can only assume was from the toilet flushing without closing the lid), unknown stains on the living room curtains, and the list goes on. I'm giving this a "middle of the road" review, since Papakea was nice, but the unit was not."

"3 Weeks In Paradise
We have stayed at several units at Papakea and picked J103 for our annual Christmas/New Year's stay. Booking was easy and the communication from the agency was always timely.
As with any condo in Maui, I always tell people you get what you pay for. There are other units that have more updates and there are other units that are more dated.
The beds are comfortable (I slept in one of the twins and in the king). The Smart TVs are a nice bonus when you want to watch a movie on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu (just sign in).
The only downside to the unit is the amount of storage space for personal items. The closet in the master has large items (vacuum and fan) while the closet in the 2nd bedroom is full of beach equipment. The kitchen is decently stocked but there is little room for storing food without rearranging items. The shelf above the washer new pieces of tile stacked on it, making it unusable.
Considering our length of stay when we visit Maui we like to store things such as luggage out of sight and stock up on food. My only suggestion would be to provide more storage for the guests other than dresser drawers.
The tile floors do need a deep clean. Even on arrival our feet/socks became very dirty just walking around."

From booking, arrival and checkout our experience was top notch! The unit was clean and all the amenities in the unit were second to none. We’ve stayed at Papakea before and love the property, so we knew what to expect of the grounds and as always it didn’t disappoint. Saying that, our unit was the over the top stocked. We’ve stayed in places that didn’t even have salt & pepper and this place had extra spices and oils. The dishes and utensils were great and the knife set with 3 pairs of kitchen shears was amazing for people who love to cook!"

"Great place for a family
We loved our stay. This rental was perfect for a family, easy with kids to be on the ground level, we would definitely stay here again. Also great customer service with , I contacted them a few times before we arrived and they answered within hours and were very helpful! We have always stays at Papakea, the pools are great and the grounds are beautiful. my one complaint would be the bed in the master wasn't the greatest but it was ok. But the TV's were all brand new and really nice, great at 4/5am when the kids were up a little too early :)"

Great location very quiet and great location to downtown Lahaina, Up Country and beach areas. The ground level is real nice, lawn area pond w/frogs and easy access to the pool and ocean wall areas. This property though is NOT well maintained and very outdated compared to neighboring units. All furniture and beds are so uncomfortable that they almost can't be used. Unit resembles a cheap hotel and needs a major deep cleaning and routine maintenance, this was obvious upon arrival. Master bath shower/toilet needs updating very cheap hotel like, does not fit property description. Second bath was updated. We will not rent this unit again but may stay in the same complex because of location."

"Stay at Papakea Resort J103
I enjoyed my stay very much. The resort itself was wonderful-grounds well kept, friendly employees, great location. However, the condo itself was just okay. It was a fairly nice unit but there is room for some improvement. First off, I found two dead cockroaches underneath the couch when pulling out the sofa sleeper, as well as hair in the master bathtub drain. The beds are very uncomfortable, and need updating.
(the mattress protector in master had stains) Other than that, the unit was a good value and was helpful, but I will probably stay in a different unit the next time I visit Papakea Resort. "

"Amazing, wonderful, perfect 10 days!
Our family and extended in-laws stayed in J-103 for 10 perfect days. This was the first time we didn't stay oceanfront and, for families with kids, I highly recommend this condo. The location traffic just seems to work better for kids as we had our children playing with other children the whole time. The condo had one slight issue with the dishwasher where it didn't work for a few days but we had such a great time we really weren't bothered by it. The kitchen is stocked well with utensils, plenty of chairs and floaties for the kids, the beds were comfortable, just a really great stay. The price was very decent as well. When we go back, this will be the first place that we'll try to reserve."

We love being in Maui and have spent many vacations at The Papakea which is a very picturesque property, also convenient to many activities.
Our unit was comfortable but basically needs some extra cleaning and TLC. I feel the starter kit could use some extra items such as kleenex and cleaning supplies for the bathrooms.
A highlight for me was doing yoga with Carl at the Cabana with the ocean breeze caressing my skin!!"

"Quiet and calm
Lovely place with a spectacularly clean property and bbq's. Everything was clean. Our host was very accommodating and allowed us to store a few bags before check-in time. Excellent customer service. There is no beach here on this property but some lovely ones a short drive away. I would recommend this to others. NOTE: There is an extra $17.00 USD resort fee which you must pay once you check out of this resort."

"What a great place for a great price!
This place was great and had everything we needed! We had a great tine and will definitely be renting this condo again in the future! I also want to add that I had called a couple weeks in advance to see if they would include two portable cribs as the couple we traveled with Also had a baby. There was a miscommunication somewhere and there was only one playpen at the condo when we arrived. I called right away as we were all tired and just wanted to go to bed, it was after 5pm I might add, and the owner of the condo brought us one within half hour! Very accomodating! Thanks for everything! "

"Comfortable vacation condo at Papakea Resort in Maui
Four adults stayed comfortably in a clean two-bedroom, two-bath condo. A couple of maintenance issues were quickly and satisfactorily addressed. We made several meals at the condo using one of the many grills on the grounds which are meticulously cleaned, and we bought our groceries from stores and fish shops writhin east you walking distance. The concierge service helped with several excursions. The resort property is beautiful and provides many forms of entertainment."

Our owners were extremely thoughtful, providing us with everything we needed for a comfortable and easy stay. Plenty of towels and the kitchen was well stocked with all of the necessary items. Clean and spacious. Three generations in one place and still had room to enjoy all our privacy. One small suggestion would be add a couple more rolls of TP as we only had two for the week. So pretty much perfect!"

"Papakea unit j-103 (Maui)
Our experience here was fantastic. Booking was easy, and our agent was able to answer our questions we had prior to our booking and during our stay. Tina was very responsive. Our party was well accomodated.
The unit was very clean, and the ground floor made it very convenient to access the garden and pool area and also parking. The view was very pleasant. I was able to request a playpen and high chair as well. The unit is located walking distance from resteraunts and a grocery store, snorkel rentals, however the nearby by beach wasnt the best.
The only downfall is the bedding and sofa was a bit old, and the coffee machine needed some cleaning. Also it wouldve been nice to have some more household cleaning products available.
We would stay here again.
