The location was absolutely perfect. So close to the beach and close to all the shops at the amazing coligne plaza. Also a short distance away from the children’s museum and incredible pirate ship park. The house was very cute however I only have 2 complaints. It was very dirty-they need a new cleaning service. Mold on shower curtains, lots of sand and dust. And the beds were very noisy and uncomfortable. We did not get much sleep during our stay. Overall we had a great trip. I would definitely do the same location but a different house. "

"Great Location but Needs a Facelift!
I’ve previously stayed on this street, so it’s a great location. Close to the beach and shops/restaurants at Coligny. However, this property needs work. When we arrived, the house had not been properly cleaned. We had to buy air fresheners to help with the nasty smell. The pool area has a huge crack in the concrete so beware with kids. Would not recommend!"

I give it a 5 because I'd read all the comments and knew what to expect. The new deck is nice. Can't beat location. I agree w all positive comments. My negatives: too many tripping hazards outside and in the pool. I understand why they keep renting the property out because it's fantastic...but honestly the whole property needs to be razed (except for the trees) and rebuilt."

"Easy Breezy
This is a cute little bungalow with easy access to food, shopping and beach. For the house to be old it was super clean. Here is the downside. The house has go to have some updates. However the cost of the house probably reflects that it needs updates and basic supplies to the kitchen that would make it a little more accommodating. The house needs a pressure wash, pool area needs to have a major clean, chairs replaced and decking replaced. All of these things are reflective in previous reviews so the home owner is aware. Again the house was super clean on the inside and the location is excellent and the price was probably reflective of everything previous reviews. the kitchen needs to be stocked a little better and just over all the house needs some updating in kitchen table, and all the outside needs to be cleaned and repaired. The property manager is super helpful. We never made any complaints but for others who might be looking for a more modern up to date rental this might help. "

"winter stay
It was a wonderful little home. Close by Coligny. Being able to walk there was really nice. Really enjoyed all the light from all the windows. One of the nicest showers with a high shower head. We had a great time. we love staying close to the beach on the north forest beach side. "

A wonderful little house that was so close to everything! A close walk to the beach and a short walk to coligny plaza. The pool was wonderful! The property was a little older than the surrounding houses and could use some updating, but overall it a wonderful place to stay and we would definitely come back!"

"Great stay- would rent again!
I was hesitant with the reviews describing this property as a small cottage. It was very spacious. The pool was sparkling clean when we arrived and was much bigger than I thought. Both kids and adults enjoyed it very much. We had to call maintenance for a couple minor things but they responded immediately and were great! The people who stayed in the pool house were very happy too as it had a good size bathroom and room. The location is great and it is such an easy walk to the beach. I would highly recommend this property and would rent again! "

"Location! Location! Location!
The house was so close to Caligny and the beach, so we walked everywhere! The outdoor shower and the pool were both nice! Our teenaged son enjoyed the pool house and having that space to himself! We would definitely come back! "

"Family getaway for 4 adults
The location was great. Everything we wanted was within minutes of this Rental location. I would recommend it to others.
However, the exterior of the rental could use some attention. Simple power washing and a fresh coat of paint would go a long way for appearances. Other minor details, such as exposed utilities pipes and cables along the back of the house are unsightly and perhaps easily concealed with a little carpentry work.
The private pool was very nice. We enjoyed it a lot. However, the pool lights didn’t work and we never got a response from Sea Turtle for getting this fixed timely.....would have made swimming late evening much more enjoyable for nothing more than a new light bulb.
The wood patio area was very worn....again, power spray and paint/stain would help. There was a brand new grill, which was great, but we waited on promised patio furniture until Thursday of our stay....too late to really enjoy it.
I liked the place and would give it a 7.5, but it easily could be a 9 with a little more upkeep!

This vacation property has a very convenient location to both the beach restaurants and stores. It is in a neighbourhood of mostly grander and newer homes than this one. It is also beside a road, so I recommend doing a quick 360 on google maps to make sure you are comfortable with this feature. The cottage is super cosy and clean, and our rental company was professional and helpful. Still, it is important to note that the outside area looks much more rundown than in the photos; there are sandbags lining the house, the wood deck is rotten, the fence boards are missing, and the patio furniture is rusty. Also, the guest cabin has a strong mould smell and was difficult to ventilate because there were no windows, only doors. Since the doors are at a height and face the street, there is a loss of privacy and security if they are left open much. "

"Wonderful location... close to beach, restaurants, shops
Overall wonderful experience. The location is perfect... 30 second walk to beach and 1/2 block to Coligny Plaza (restaurants, shops). The pool is huge and waterfall wonderful. As stated by previous reviewers, the property is in need of care, including paint repairs, fencing repairs, concrete repairs, and an overall outdoor cleaning. Outdoor furniture is also in dirty/poor condition. Inside is very clean and comfortable."

"Great location!
We had a beautiful week, the house could definitely use a little “up grading” this darling house has a ton of potential. It had everything we needed but it’s sort of a shame that the owner doesn’t upgrade or paint to keep it looking it’s best. It was very clean, pool was perfect and the extra cottage is perfect for teens! SeaTurtle was awesome to work with for sure! We plan on staying again next year but hoping to see some general updates. One could wish lol. "

"Location was only good thing about this house!
The smell every time I ran washer was awful. I 1st thought it was a propane leak, gave me instant headache. Plumber was called said house is old and washer not vented properly. Sewer smell coming thru washer. He did fix tub that wasn't draining. Needs ton of maintenance outside. Pool has no handrail & concrete raised at steps. Tripping hazard. Decking needs replaced. Kitchen not equipped. No place for groceries except on counters. Skillets in cabinet needs replaced. Not usable. List of problems to long to list. Location was only good thing."

"Great location, not so great house, awful cleaning
First the good: the location is great, 2 mins straight walk from the beautiful beach and really close to restaurants and markets.
Now the not so good: the principal house is old and outdated, it reminded me of my grandma's house, but not in a good way just because it was old, the furniture, the kitchen, the bathrooms, and it had the first day this weird smell that disappeared after the second day, maybe we got used to it lol. The guest house with one room is more modern, the bad thing is they don't connect so it is like living apart (which can be a good thing). The house is small, the decoration is not bad, we only got Amazon video to work on one bedroom's tv. The AC was fine except for the second room that was really really hot. The deck is in really bad shape, my kids felt a lot due to a table being broken, also the lateral fence door had no lock so had to use a rope so the kids won't go into the street. The pool seemed nice but going in December the heating fee for the pool was $1500 so no thanks, also no pool fence. The toilet got clogged and had to buy a toilet plunger because the one at the house was a pos (pun intended).
Now the worst: the cleaning of the house was, at least, terrible. We found a used face mask on one bedroom's corner and a really heavy dust coat under the sofas, and on the second day, we found an open condom package under one bed. I immediately called the rental manager and they apologized, sent a very friendly guy to clean the house again, and returned $100 from the booking fee.
So the house has potential, but a re-do is a must for the owners, I won't go back and I won't recommend the house unless you and your family are the types that can live under a bridge and be fine"

"Vacation July 2020
Always a good time at HHI! We enjoyed our stay even though there were some problems. A plumber had to come on Monday to unclog the shower, which I think the cleaning service should’ve reported when the tub was cleaned. Wednesday the heat pump went out. New air conditioner put in Thursday, took all day to do it. The men replacing it were great and professional. Sea Turtle never called on Wednesday after repairman left to let us know what was happening. I called them, they offered fans and said they tried to find a place for us to stay, and trying to locate a company to replace the unit. Never called on Thursday after repairs were finished. House advertised for 8 people but only left towels for 6. Had to call and ask for the other 2 sets. Found a old used mask under one bed and sand was under the rugs, not cleaned under them. I cleaned and sanitized everything. Was happy with furniture and amenities, not maintenance, that’s why I gave 2 stars. The management company was helpful but I was the one reaching out to them. It was easy to rent and check in/out. I would recommend the property to others, especially now with a new heat pump, it shouldn’t break down. "

"Cute Beach House
We enjoyed our stay at this cozy beach house. A couple of upgrades needed to make it perfect:
A new dishwasher and refrigerator were being delivered the day we left. Both were a downer that were since they were semi broken. The house needs more hooks to hang towels and clothes. The pool house needs more storage. The pool house only has a closet but no dresser or drawers to put away folded clothing.
Loved the keypad entry at the front door and pool house. The downside...the back door did not have a keypad, so you needed to walk around the front of the house to get back inside the main house if you were staying in the pool house and back door is locked.
The pool edges are starting to get worn and the stones are uneven as is the wooden deck.
Aside from these inconveniences we had a wonderful visit. "

"Pleasant and Convenient Beach House
Older HHI beach house very close to Coligny and the beach. Works for a smaller family or family group of 5 or less. There are some age issues with the property. The pool works and was kept clean but it is in need of serious repairs on the pool wall and pool decking. The house is quite small but it's manageable for a week. The housekeeping was mediocre and the house needs a thorough cleaning. Pricing was fair considering the location but steep for the actual property. All the basics worked well. The refrigerator has minimal storage and has seen better days. It makes ice like crazy and will freeze your produce if placed on the upper shelf inside the fridge. All in all, typical, older beach house. Feels like a summer camp experience. We had great time at this location."

"Clean and cozy cottage
The folks at Sea Turtle Getaways were very responsive and easy to work with. We sent them a couple of pictures of somethings that needed attention and they sent someone out next day to take care of the one we needed fixed. Would definitely rent from them again and recommend them to others."

"Great Escape
Overall we had a great rental experience. Everything appeared in order and we didn't have any trouble throughout the week. My only pieces of "criticism" would be: 1. the inability to pay the remainder of the fee online. Mailing a check is fine, but it would be more convenient to have the option of paying online. 2. we got to our rental at 4:15 pm and as we were unloading our car the cleaning crew arrived. We are very patient people and we just sat on the front porch and waited, but we felt bad for the crew.
Other than those 2 items, we truly had a great experience and are wanting to rent the home again next year. "

We love this house! We've stayed twice, once in 2006 and again this summer (2018). Great location! Super close to the beach and Coligny Plaza. The only improvements needed would be to stock the kitchen with more tools (a measuring cup, for example) and to maintain the side deck/tiki bar a bit better."

Such a perfect place!! We rented Bittern for a tennis tournament weekend. The pool was amazing, the house was clean and spacious. The pool house was perfect for a third bedroom and full bath for my brother in law. Definitely would stay again! Super cute and great for tired muscles not having to climb stairs after a tennis match!"

"Easy and Close Access to Beach
We stayed at 15 Bittern 9 years ago and were so pleased that we chose this home for our recent visit to Hilton Head. The location is excellent. Not only 4 rows from the beach, but also 1 block to Coligny Plaza. You can walk everywhere and the home feels safe.
Since we traveled with our 2 children (14 & 10), plus my mother (70y.o.), the separate guest house bedroom fits our needs perfectly, as does having a private pool.
The only downsides: the air conditioning unit in the main house is LOUD. When the air kicks on, it sounds like a bad thunderstorm is rolling over and all the vents clang and rattle. However, it does keep the house cool.
The pool deck and fencing need some repairs, as does the stucco on the side of the house, but I think these issues are related to Hurricane Matthew, which hit the Island in October, 2016. Hopefully, those issues will be repaired soon. Even so, the pool is wonderful!"

" 7 Weeks at 15 Bittern
The location of 15 Bittern is ideal. It is a bright, cheery place inside that leaves no doubt that you are at the beach. The outside of the property needs work, however, especially the side deck and front porch. Sea Turtle was good about responding to problems promptly

"Summer Vaca 2016
We loved the house, guest house and pool area. The outside of the home needs some maintenance work. There were several places around the home that need to be repaired to improve the looks of the outside. The inside of the home was decorated so beautifully and very inviting. The AC was wonderful the whole week we were there. The home was not cleaned very well though. I do not keep a spotless home by no means, but there were crumbles on the floor by the sofa in the living room, dead roaches in the hallway, food left in the microwave, and a pair of dirty underwear under each of the twin beds in the guest room. The front porch of this home really needs to be cleaned and the patio area had broken chairs out around the grill. "
