The main home, Hale Koolau, is a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom getaway drenched in natural light and boasts an expansive, wraparound lanai, perfect for indoor/outdoor living. The master bedroom has a California King-size bed and en suite bathroom with a stone shower. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed. The large, third bedroom aka the bunk room is separate from the main house and can sleep up to nine guests and has an attached bathroom.

Hale Koolau's outdoor shower refreshes you after a day of hiking the cliffs of the Na Pali coast or an afternoon of swimming in the blue Pacific Ocean. "Great Family stay
We rented the Hale Koolau and the tree house for 8 adults and 5 kids under the age of 5. This was a perfect set up. Lots of outdoor space to hang out in, a large outdoor/covered dining table for full family meals, a great kitchen, and plenty of equipment for the beach! It’s a very short walk to Naue beach. The tree house is a completely separate and self contained unit that is also beautifully designed. The grass out front provided a space with lots of afternoon shade to play games. We loved this spot!"

"Best House in Kauai
This place is amazing. We had 14 people and everyone had a comfortable place to sleep. There was also so much open space outside. From the patio area under the house to the patio area in front of the bunk room, everyone was able to spread out however they wanted to eat meals or just get away from the madness. The location of the property is perfect for Tunnels beach which, hands down, has the best snorkeling access. It is also close to the Na Pali Coast Hike trailhead. This allowed the group that went on the hike to easily just walk back to the house (2 miles) and we didn’t have to worry about parking. (You do need a permit to hike). The pictures do not do this place justice. It is so spacious and has a lot of kitchen appliances. The company is very hospitable and provides towels, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs/umbrellas, detergent, and even has a good car vacuum to help clean the sand from the cars. (Also, plenty of room to park multiple cars which we needed). While this place is far from south side of the island, the drive is super easy. Also, it is very close to Hanalei and Princeville shopping centers which had some great shave ice places. Overall, if you are looking for a place that is spacious and beautiful, this is the place for you. "

"fantastic stay in paradise !
Our family of 10 stayed for a week and we LOVED the estate and all the living spaces ! The living areas flowed right out to the wrap around decks where we could enjoy the beautiful garden with tropical plants and many lovely birds ! As our 3 year old grandson said , while rocking in a big rocking chair on the deck , “ it doesn’t get any better than this !”
The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and store all of our food ! We enjoyed eating our meals out in the long table on the deck !
We appreciated the beach gear including coolers , tents , chairs snorkel gear and a few toys !
The beach towels were huge and very nice , too ! We had plenty of room for parking our 3 cars . The bunk room was perfect for our son , daughter in law and grandsons to spread out and enjoy . The treetop house was dreamy either the best views of all ! The main house was perfect for gathering and enjoying one another . All spaces were super clean and well organized . We loved it all !! "

Hello! I posted this on Instagram (a couple of grammatical errors in that one), and slightly revised this one that I posted on Facebook. Thank you for an EPIC vacation for my family!

My family and I stayed at the Hale Ko'olau Estate in Hanalei, Kauai. The Estate sits on a gated, peaceful and private piece of land very close to the North Shore coastline. It is beautifully landscaped front to back, with a feeling of lushness as tall trees/vines/palm trees embrace the perimeter of the 2 homes. The property consists of 2 immaculate homes: the larger front main house filled with 2 sizable comfortable bedrooms, a full kitchen and dining area, a large living room with a terrace that wraps around the entire house (a huge dining area outside, too), several bathrooms PLUS a HUGE and multi-bedded bunkhouse that adjoins the main house (3 steps away from front door of front house), with its own lockable door, and is a separate area with 8 separate beds (4 bunks), and a beautiful updated bathroom. High ceilings, fans, couches and chairs complete the bunk room. This would be great for tweens, teens and young adults, and just a hangout place slightly separated from the 2 houses. Included amenities are an immaculate hot tub, beach chairs, a beach cart, outdoor shower, board games, full set of pristine plates, cutlery, glasses, pans, and pantry items. Also, a/c throughout, washers, dryers, fridge, microwave and toaster ovens, and much more.
More....upper house, or "treehouse". Much LARGER than I expected. All amenities stated above. 1 large bedroom with king size bed, hallway, large kitchen, dining area and living room. I found the large windows, which are plentiful, so very relaxing to gaze out of. They are mostly wood slat shades that are easily adjusted, with a screen behind each. It rained a couple of hours every few days, and nothing came into the home. We felt SAFE, relaxed and rejuvenated each day. We loved our stay here, and would highly recommend to anyone."

"Paradise in Kauai
Enjoyed our annual family retreat (15 of us) for a week at Hale Ko'olau (used the main house and the tree house). Everything was wonderful. Ke'e, Tunnels, Hanalei, Lydgate, Kalihiwai, Kilauea, just WOW. The estate was perfect for us (and the grandkids especially enjoyed the large grassy area and the underneath part of the house. All the beach gear was a welcome surprise, too! Wifi worked well. AC worked well. Private yet located in a wonderful neighborhood. Makana Kauai staff were VERY helpful and responsive. Nothing but 100% praise from this very grateful family. Aloha and Mahalo!"

"Perfect home for large group

"Hawaiian beauty
We hosted a womens retreat here and it fit our needs well. The location is beautiful, a two minute walk to the beach, and close to some of the islands best hiking trails. The tree house was adorable and the multiple kitchens onsite was such a nice feature of the home. The only thing that was a annoyance was that both houses have great AC but the bunk room
That sleeps the most people didn’t have AC. There were also a lot
Of bugs that were in there. The combo impeded on peoples sleep. "

It's been a month since our trip to Kauai and not a day goes by that we don't think about returning to this lovely home in this lovely part of the world.

"Beautiful space for our large group
Honestly the photos of this property do not do this property enough justice. We rented the main house and the treehouse unit for our large group of 13. It was clean, spacious, and beautifully designed. Beach towels, snorkel masks, fins, coolers, beach umbrellas were included. Makana Properties were very responsive and answered all questions I had promptly. They sent detailed instructions which made check in and check out very easy. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this estate! "

"The most Magnificent place
This property is even more beautiful in person. The location is absolutely breathtaking with the mountains in view. Being able to walk to the beach and spend time outside on the grass felt so nice. We loved every minute here and were so sad to leave. It held a large group of us very comfortably. The space had everything we needed and more. Every detail has been carefully thought out here. It truly does feel like a home away from home. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for the most magical place on north shore. "
