Welcome to Alfred House, a spacious, luxurious, and secluded beachfront estate with an oceanfront heated private pool on the north end of world-famous French Leave Beach (formerly Club Med Beach). This mile-long beach of pink sand where a Club Med once stood is the most sought-after beach location on Eleuthera. The ocean is turquoise, shallow, and historically safe, having served Club Med well for many years. Children love this shallow beach. Enjoy thousands of feet of deserted beachfront, extensive ocean views from every major room, and the sound of the ocean from everywhere. There is excellent snorkeling right off our property.

Enjoy our new ocean-view pool! The pool can be heated for your comfort for a charge of $500 per week.

Alfred House is located just a mile from the main town, Governors Harbours, which has some excellent restaurants as well as grocery stores, gift shops, liquor stores, a bakery, and a fish fry street party every Friday night that is not to be missed. Walk to town past the lovely restored captain’s homes dating from the 1800s.

Alfred House is a 4000-square-foot, 5-bedroom island style home. The house was designed and decorated to reflect the laid back feeling of the cabanas at the Bitter End Yacht Club, Virgin Gorda. Both the upstairs and downstairs of Alfred House have a wall of glass-paned mahogany French doors, so as you move through the house, you see the sea at every turn. The house is furnished with comfortable deep sofas, custom pieces made of teak, mango, & cherry woods, and large black and white photographs of movie icons. There are Honduran hardwood floors, cypress cedar ceilings, and marble and slate tile washrooms.

Downstairs, Alfred House features a vast great room that looks out through a wall of glass patio doors at the beach and ocean. The open-plan kitchen faces the ocean, and features custom wood white shelving with shell encrusted stone counter tops. Appliances are stainless steel. The kitchen island is capped with a ten-foot teak counter with matching teak bar stools.

There is a king bedroom master suite downstairs with an ocean view and a en-suite full bath. Also downstairs is a second full bath with walk-in shower.

The upstairs of Alfred House has four more bedrooms. The two huge upstairs master suites have king beds; spectacular ocean views, big decks, and full en suite baths. The two smaller bedrooms have two twin beds in each. Four of the five bedrooms at Alfred House have ocean views. One twin room has a pond view.

The upstairs of Alfred House also features a huge media room, another gathering spot, which faces the ocean and shows turquoise water through several French doors.

The upstairs sun deck, with its grand row of Honduran mahogany shutters, runs the length of the house (60 ft), with miles of beach and ocean views.

Outside on the first level is a lovely covered patio adjacent to the pool, a shady spot for enjoying the sea breeze and the sound of the ocean. The floor of the terrace contains a lovely mosaic of a conch made by a local island artist. The patio has seating for dining or lounging.

Amenities include full AC, large flat-screen TV in the media room, NEW SUPER-FAST STARLINK INTERNET, satellite TV with 100 channels including HBO, CNN, FOX, and BBC, and a washer/dryer. A mid-stay housekeeping is included in a 1-week stay.

Alfred House has just one neighbor, a one-bedroom cottage. Otherwise, the nearest house is 100s of yards down the beach.

Alfred House is surrounded by over 20 acres of secluded wild nature, full of casuarina trees, palms, giant cacti, sea grape and lettuce, even though we are only a mile or so from town.

NOTE: During the peak spring and holiday seasons, rates are for up to 10 guests. During the rest of the year, the off-peak rates are for the first 8 guests, with a charge for additional guests.

Nearby Activities in Governors Harbour

Governor's Harbour is the main town on the island of Eleuthera, with a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Eleuthera is most famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is safe and friendly. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks and bikes. There is excellent sightseeing, as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, and a bottomless ocean hole.

Things To Do in Governors Harbour

For most people who make the trip to Eleuthera, the island of freedom, they come for its peace and serenity -- that feeling of being far removed from the rest of the world. One of the best things about Eleuthera is that you'll almost always have a beach to yourself. And the sand is pink! You can go swimming and snorkeling and see stingrays and other aquatic life here. The Glass Window Bridge is one of the coolest spots to visit on the island. The Ocean Hole is a spot you'll never forget.. read more

"WONDERUL HOUSE
ROUGH ROAD GETTING THERE BUT WORTH IT. SO CLOSE TO TOWN, SO PRIVATE. NICE POOL, AMAZNG PINK SAND BEACHES, SUPER COMFY HOUSE, WELL EQUIPPED KITCHEN (NEEDS BBQ CLEANING TOOLS-- GRILL BRUSH). NEEDS A WAY TO PLAY MUSIC (SONOS OR BLUETOOTH SPEAKER, ETC). NONE OF THAT MATTERS B/C IT'S IN PARADISE. "

"Time in Euleuthera with family
The place is a little dated and needs some updates for stay, especially in the kitchen. More glasses, glasses for the beach, new blender etc. In addition, more beach towels (big ones) beach chairs, coolers etc. could be supplied. The pool was ok, but was turning color by the end of the week and was a little cool in temperature. Some more pool toys would be nice for families with children."

"Great house for a large group with great views
This house fit our large family nicely!! Overall a great place to stay with a great beach right in front. We loved the island and being able to drive all around and explore. The Atlantic side was rough (due to weather) but you could drive to the other side to find calm water! The house could use a little work. A/C unit leaking in one of the bedrooms and the twins beds were pretty old. We also didn’t know the house had unfiltered water (which is somewhat normal there). But during the a few days it rained it was hard to get water from any store in town for drinking and you can’t drink or cook with the water. "

"Girlfriend Retreat in PARADISE
One of my girlfriends helped me find this house and set up our trip - I had never been to the Bahamas and it was a 50th birthday celebration with my best friends and my 2 kiddos - I had an amazing time! The house was huge and fit us all very well - such a neat setting and the furniture was nice and comfy. We were not far from the grocery store and felt very secluded at the same time - just a stunning location and right next door to the old Club Med resort and therefore we had a mile of pink sand beaches to ourselves for the most part - just amazing!!! I am looking forward to visiting again soon! We were a little pre-season so not as much stuff was open or available, but it was still a terrific time for relaxing and spending quality time together."

"Beautiful Location
Very nice house in a very nice location. We had a great stay. The house looks exactly like advertised and is in overall good condition. The doors (all of them) have rusted out hardware and all of the doors on the second floor are inoperable by any practical means, so don’t make plans that involve the upper deck or open upper floor.
Driving to the house involves dirt roads that are encroached by hard brush, so if you rent a car, be warned as you will be responsible for scratches to the vehicle, but believe me, it is worth it for the very private location and Atlantic coastal beaches right outside the front door.
The house is close to Governors Harbor, so even though the house feels secluded, it is mere minutes to amenities.
We would definitely stay here again."

"Real Getaway!
Alfred House was positioned beautifully with the ocean framed by palm trees and excellent snorkelling on hand from the enormous stretch of empty whit sand. A lovely cool oasis when the heat got too much, we loved the colonial style and casual ambiance. The freshwater pool was great as was the shady verandah. Kitchen was well-equipped. The odd power cut reminded us we were far from the big city, but it all added up to a fabulous vacation. Recommend!"

"Alfred House
It was a great place to be with friends and family, however, the property could be better managed and attended too. Never got AC fixed in 3 of the rooms, had to unclog one of the sinks in the bedroom myself and the caretaker never returns any of our calls or What’s App messages. Recommend finding someone to take better care of this property as it could be an amazing rental. "

"Extended Multi-Family Vacation
Fantastic location, beautiful house, gorgeous beaches! Our caretaker, Christine, was amazing and went above and beyond to make our trip relaxing and enjoyable. Would highly recommend her meal delivery!

Eleuthera is beyond post-card perfect and the Alfred house was in the ideal location as a home base to explore North and South Eleuthera!!"

"Great spot!
This villa provided the perfect getaway for our group of 3 adults and 7 teenagers. It was appropriately stocked with everything we needed included a sunlit deck for yoga in the morning and a covered porch for afternoon cocktails. Right on a secluded beach away from it all but good proximity to town. If you are coming from the US, don’t be surprised if the house managers solicit your support in collecting items of need. And make sure to ask for two (2) large 10 gallon+ jugs of drinkable water. "

"A great stay at a wonderful house
Alfred House is a beautiful home with lots of charm. There is plenty of room and fit 4 adults 2 preteens and 2 kids perfectly. The kitchen is well equipped with most things you need. We only cooked breakfast and had take out with the other meals. It is an older home and the wood floors creak (it's part of the charm) and one of the twins rooms smelled very musty and wet. Besides that it really is a wonderful home. The pool is not heated but the kids didn't mind swimming after a day at the beach. It was nice to come back to the house after all day beaching and snorkeling and relax on the big sitting areas and talk about our day. The location is great with a beautiful beach right in front of the house and another gorgeous beach within a one minute walk. Snorkeling was good but a bit tough on windy days. There is really good snorkeling off the beach on the French Leave side by the house and the other side about a 10 minute walk down. We were there during Thanksgiving week during Covid restrictions and most restaurants were closed. You still could find take out food and went a couple times to La Bougainvillea to eat lunch and hang out at the beach and pool there. Christine, the house caretaker, was very responsive and helpful. Also, she made 2 dinners for us and delivered it to the house since everything closed at 6 pm. Both dinners were delicious! There is Wifi but it's spotty and it's not unlimited, we weren't on it much. They have a dvd player but it doesn't play blu ray and there was a smart tv but we were scared to use it in case we went over the limited wifi. But we really didn't miss it. Matt Simon, the property manager, really was helpful whenever I had questions before and after booking the house and answered all our questions very quickly. We would recommend him to anyone, very professional and knowledgeable. We definitely would recommend Alfred House to anyone looking for a big house in a great location in a gorgeous setting."

"Wonderful stay at a beautiful house!
We could not have felt more relaxed at Alfred House. We are big fans of Governors Harbor and this was our third trip there but, our first at this home. The most beautiful beach you could ever imagine is right out your front door. While inside, the bedrooms and well appointed kitchen made us feel like we were at our own home in the Bahamas. Truly loved it and will be back. Thank you. "

"Eleuthera Christmas
Perfect House for our family of 10.
Gorgeous Beach. Well equipped kitchen.
Island is beautiful and very undeveloped-which appealed to us."

"Schmitt Family Vacation 2019
It was the perfect house for our family. Total of 6 adults and 4 children under the age of 13. There is no need to worry about anything. The housekeeper keeps in touch and if you have any problems Christine or her husband David are on it immediately. We did not even sign into the wifi until the last few days. The beach by the Old Club Med is beautiful and snorkeling is great but the water is a little rough. We found our favorite beach the last day. As you come out of the house go left and walk for about 10 minutes to 15 minutes or you can drive. it was perfect , a protected cove with a strip of beach that goes to a small island. Very calm for our 6 year old,(we were able to use floats to relax ) shallow but yet the island is surrounded by coral,so the snorkeling was great as well. We all said we wish we would have found this beach the first day. You can drive the car down if you want as there is a path to the beach. We go on vacation every year and the best compliment was when my son in law said this turned out to be his favorite. However if you are looking for someplace with lots of shopping and many restaurants, forget it. This is a fairly primitive island and soooo wonderfully relaxing.
We ate lunch at Tippy's, we liked it there because we could also go down to the beach where they have cabana's and snorkel. So while some of us wanted to eat , some preferred just going to the beach. And some came and went. The breeze and the service was outstanding. Our big night out was dinner at 1648, it is a Marriott resort.(French Leave) Very expensive but we also had a couple bottles of wine. The food was exceptional there, so I guess it was worth it. Two of us went to Pascal's for lunch one day and I had the fish taco and being from Florida I am very picky about my fish taco's. These were great. I asked for them plain with no batter. They also have a pool there so if you have kids they can play in the pool while you relax and have lunch. Friday night fish fry ..GREAT AS W"

"Pleasant Stay
The house is as advertised--beautiful and in good condition. The one thing to know is that it is on an isolated, unpaved road that is a bit difficult to navigate. Be prepared to rent a jeep. I would also highly recommend that you have them stock the fridge with basics before you get there because it takes a little bit to get oriented and find the grocery stores. Also, don't expect gourmet food in the stores--there's almost no produce and it is a lot of canned, frozen and processed foods. We had Christine, the property manager, prepare dinner one night and it was very good--highly recommend it. If you want to be isolated and sit and relax without running into many people, this is the house for you! We walked the beach each day and never saw more than a few people. If you want activities, be sure to book them in advance. We waited until a few days after we got there and then found out all the tours we wanted to take were booked. Finally, be aware that you are on the Atlantic side, where the winds are higher and the water a rougher. "

"Relaxing Vacation
We had another great trip back in Eluethera. We spent spring break there with our college kids and had a blast. Fishing with Tweaty and Deek was awesome. My husband was thrilled to catch a 63# Yellowfin Tuna. Our son was happy with his 25# Yellowfin and our good friend caught a 20# Wahoo. "

"Great House, Great Beaches
We've stayed at Alfred House one time before, in 2017. Such privacy, wonderful, beautiful beach setting! And the new pool a lovely bonus. Seems there are some issues sometimes with the individual ac units in certain rooms, but nothing that couldn't be lived with during our time there. Our group this time all agreed that it would have been so nice to open up the wall of windows for ocean breezes, if only there were screens - because of no-seeums. Also, would be wonderful if there were a couple ceiling fans on the lower porch to circulate air better when less breezy to deter no-seeums. The house listing describes many windows & doors as part of architecture. Then when you rent you get a welcome letter explaining how difficult some of them are to operate, so best not to use many of them. So, a little frustrating, but not enough to ruin visit or keep us from recommending Alfred House to others - would just let them know this up front. "

"Wonderful family getaway
This house was amazing. The views were spectacular and French Leave Beach is basically across the street. The house is spacious for many family members. We had a great time. Plenty of towels. Needed more spices for cooking but all in all a great rental. "

"Alfred House
Absolutely perfect - could not be faulted
Truly had a marvellous time in the most quintessential of Bahamain settings. "

"Paradise that you want to stay lost in...
This was a once in a lifetime trip. French Leave beach is amazing (had it almost exclusively to ourselves the entire time). The house is solid, beautiful, and tastefully decorated. The pool is sweet when you are too lazy to wander down to the beach which is literally a stone's throw away. We had our own private hideaway off the beaten path for the week and it was amazing. The perfect way to celebrate my birthday with a group of my closest friends. And Misty, the property manager, was the most responsive and so helpful in every possible way (from check-in to recommendations to directions to answering all questions)--the ultimate professional. She really went above and beyond to make our stay all the more enjoyable. This rental is a real diamond in the rough. A slice of sophistication and tasteful luxury in a remote location, though not too far from local restaurants and nearby town when you want to be more social."

"Another wonderful stay in Eleuthera
Probably our best vacation to date! Although any time in Eleuthera will be special. Both Alfred House (with pool) and Med Point were 5 star. Super comfortable for our group of 6 + 1. Had everything we needed to cook several meals at home (Lobster night!) and also enjoyed a couple of meals out. Weather and beaches were amazing. French Leave and Twin Coves were favorites. Of course, not wanting to leave when our week was over. Thanks to Misty, Clinton and especially the Owners for listing these lovely homes for rental."

"Awsome Beach Trip
Overall excellent
Beaches amazing - easy walk to multiple good options
House was great - everything as advertised
Happily stay there again"
Jun 20, 2018 -

"Perfect Week
Our group of 10 people couldn't have imagined a more perfect week. French Leave beach was gorgeous. We spent plenty of time on rafts in the shallow areas or just on the beach. There was good snorkeling right there (just south of the small one room cottage on property) if anyone wanted to do that. The morning walks were calm--hardly saw another person.
We spent a decent amount of time at Twin Coves (walk up the road, but beware the dog at the round house) due to the good snorkeling there. We saw rays and turtles and tons of fish. Twin Coves was my favorite.

The house was in wonderful condition. We had a chef come in one night and we ate out the other nights. We cooked breakfast and lunch each day. Kitchen was great. THe bedrooms were also very nice. The AC went out in our bedroom, but it wasn't enough to ruin the trip. We slept with the fan on and the door opened to the main room, so it wasn't too hot. The caretaker was easy to reach and responsive. There was nothing to be done about the AC until after we were gone due to the remote location of the island.

Truly a wonderful home and the best location. "

"Eleuthera is the REAL Paradise Island
A group of eleven stayed at Alfred House and Med Point in Feb 2018. Both houses were lovely. They were well supplied with kitchen ware, bed linens, towels and soaps. Christine Rolle led us to them the first time - definitely needed, but it was easy after that using cars rented from Tracy. Christine made us a great Bahamian meal. She and David were very helpful the first night when we lost power for a short time. This was really the only problem we had all week and it was minor.

The Club Med/French Leave Beach was as beautiful as we remembered it from 25 or so years ago, but the snorkeling was not as good - partly due to lots of wind and partly due to fewer colorful fish around. The beach really is quite spectacular - and it is so long that it never seems crowded. At most there may have been another dozen or so people on it at any point in time, and usually fewer than that. Many of the other near-by beaches were totally uninhabited - and the weather was perfect!

The local grocery - Eleuthera Supply - was good for most of what we needed, but the Island Farm store in Palmetto Point was really terrific for fresh spices, vegetables, bread and specialty spreads. The fishing boats in Governor’s Harbor and Tarpum Bay come in around noon-1:30 and were great spots for fresh lobster and grouper. Be sure to bring bug spray to use in the afternoon as the no-see-ums can get you! The Beach Book (two were at the house) were very useful for helping us find beaches for specific qualities (e.g. a shelling beach and a great calm water beach, etc). Norma's in Governor’s Harbor was a good place for local souveniers. We enjoyed dinner at Tippy’s and the Friday Night Fish Fry, but for the most part enjoyed cooking at the houses and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The stars at night are really quite spectacular!

Here are some recommendations we would make:
Have at least two non-feather"

"Fantastic stay!
We just spent a week at Alfred house and it was a wonderful place to stay. The location is perfect because it's a five minute drive into Governor's Harbour, but we basically had the beach to ourselves and all the privacy of a very remote location. The house was well equipped. The kitchen had everything one would need and more. Everything was very clean and well maintained. There were some beach chairs and even a few children's beach toys available. Overall, we had a great stay and found Alfred House to be in excellent condition which is saying a lot for any rental villa on the Atlantic ocean in the Bahamas. The minor issues like a tricky door handle or a loose toilet paper roller were trivial. People traveling to Eleuthera or any of the more remote Bahamian islands should know that power outages do occur and are part of the price of enjoying such a pristine and unspoiled location. Alfred House was lovely and we hope to return soon."
