"So-so stay - fire influenced ?
We had stayed here before. The fires really changed the overall feeling of the area in a negative way. The grounds were nice but the pool was cold. The unit itself was oddly furnished with a small TV. All in all, just OK."

"Every February!
Hale Kai has a great atmosphere, many people know each other. So easy to meet others, not like a big resort. Prices are increasing, which is understandable. However, this is an older property and many units could use some internal updates. At the new price points, there are other accomodations nearby that are now very competitive. Still, the 'vibe' of the Hale Kai is what brings people back - and I'll be back next February."

"4th Time at Hale Kai!
Hale Kai is my go-to spot in Western Maui. We stayed in #205 this trip. Very clean second story unit facing park with ocean view. Kitchen was well stocked with lots of dishes, pots & pans. We do like to prepare our breakfast and lunch in unit and eat out for dinner. This unit had a loft with a super comfy king bed and small bathroom and downstairs with queen bed and another bathroom. Grounds were impeccable as usual. Pool was spotless and lots of lounge chairs. We enjoyed visiting with past guests and made new friends. Melody in the office is wonderful and very helpful. Neighborhood is great for walking and lots of small local restaurants! We will be returning next year!"

"Delightful Accommodation
This condo was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The unit overlooked the park and ocean . It was lovely to fall asleep to the roar of the ocean and wake up to the birdsongs. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool and watching the humpback migration. "

We had a wonderful time staying at Hale Kai #205. We really enjoyed the location, ocean views from the lanai, and close proximity to the pool. The unit was wonderfully equipped to accommodate our 12 day stay. Valerie in the office was great to deal with and answer any questions. Everyone we encountered was friendly and welcoming."

"Perfect Views
Experience was incredible. On a medical conference hotel was much more expensive this place was just perfect. Few feet from the beach. Relaxation. Locals were very kind walking distance from the farmers market. This place was very clean. All amenities needed. Only thing missing was a air conditioner but it was cool enough to have windows and doors open."

"Perfect Holiday
Our condo was ideally located right on the ocean. We slept with the sound of the waves lulling us to sleep every night. The unit had everything we needed to be self sufficient food wise. Plenty of towels and supplies. Friendly helpful staff. The surrounding area had all the entertainment and day trips you could want. Can hardly wait to return! Miss it so much :)"

"Beautiful Stay
Loved our stay at Hale Kai. The location is amazing - right on the beach, farmers market across the street, fun food trucks. Very quiet and everyone staying at the property was very friendly. When the cable in our condo wasn't working staff was friendly and very responsive. It was fixed before we return from our adventures that day. Totally recommend this rental as the base for an incredible Maui getaway."

We love the location and the homey feel of this location. Unfortunately, I am no longer tolerant of the heat at night and a future visit MUST include airconditioning so I can sleep at night. Not being able to sleep did have some negative impact on my overall experience."

"Room 205
We enjoyed our stay. It is located right on the beach. There is no air-conditioning, so it was hot in the afternoon and evening- especially in the upper level of the condo. We had the kids share the upper room so we could be a little cooler.
The beach was great for small children and we rented a crib and highchair from a locally recommended company which was great. They dropped off and picked up all the baby gear we needed- it was wonderful.
I only wish there had been a sun umbrella in our room to use, but there were two in my sister-in-law's room, so we borrowed hers before she left.
Overall it was a wonderful stay. My only complaint was the heat- but I believe most rentals are not air-conditioned in Hawaii- so it was perfect. There were fans in every room.

"Great Stay at Hale Kai!
We enjoyed our stay in #205. The place was great in mid July. Although it got to the high 80's we were able to cool off at night with the fans and open windows. The lady at the desk was very nice. We broke out blender and she had a new one to give to us! She gave us maps, told us about the island and gave us beach chairs for the duration of the stay. The pool is nice but why swim in the warm pool when you can swim in the ocean! We were able to watch sea turtles from our balcony. There is coffee, a farmers market and restaurants all a short walk away.

"Nice Spot!
We have stayed in the complex before and enjoyed the location and the proximity to Lahaina. There are turtles in the water just off the park and the pool, The facility has aged well and the management is there to help. The neighbors are very welcoming to visitors."

My husband, our two kids and I stayed in this condo for 5 days. It was just as described and perfect for our family. Very well maintained, clean, perfect location beside a park and a quiet beach. Great location for site-seeing although we didn't want to leave the property. The pool is clean and very quiet, felt like our private pool."

"Lovely accommodations for a relaxing vacation
205 is roomy, well stocked with all you need for cooking and relaxing. Wifi worked fine, TV worked fine. Kitchen was well equipped even though we didn't do much real cooking, just some breakfast and lunch prep. Pool area is well maintained. Folks are friendly at Hale Kai. We will stay there again."

"Hale Kai Condos
This is our third stay at the Hale Kai condos. The location is great and the year-round residents are friendly, including an every other Sunday pupu potluck and the traditional conch shell sounding at sunset. Unit 205 needs a new sofa sleeper, but was otherwise comfortable. It is sparsely decorated, but has all needed amenities. I recommend Hale Kai to any travelers. You are steps from the beach, where you can snorkel and observe sea turtles from the pool deck. The neighboring park, farmer's market across the street and Bad *** coffee shop are frequent stops for us when visiting."

"Wonderful Spot
This was our second stay at Hale Kai so we are newbies. Our family had a great 9 days again. Location works really well for us (walk to playground, beach, Farmers Market, coffee,...). It is quiet and well kept. It seems the majority of people we met there on both trips have been coming for years and years. That speaks volumes. Looking forward to another visit next year. We did have an issue with a running toilet but it was addressed."

"Warm winter get away
We always love going to Maui and don't even think of staying anywhere else but Hale Kai. It's the perfect clean, comfortable, low-key, down home place with the farmers market across the street and the great pool area with perfect views of Molokai and Lanai."

"3 Weeks Of Relaxing
Unit 205 was very nice, clean with a good view. We where happy with everything except the beds (mattresses) need attention, very uncomfortable... A second T.V. in master bedroom would also be nice. But over all a very nice fully functional 2 bedroom set up."

"Maui Mellow
This was our second year at the HaleKai. We stayed again in 205, which has a view of the park and a partial view of the ocean. It is in a great location, away from the big resorts of Kaanapali and has a more residential feel, which we liked. We enjoyed people watching in the park and we didn't rent a car so mainly walked or took the bus. It is a nice, quiet place. Our main objective was to get away and relax in the sun and Hale Kai filled the bill."

"Unit 205
Condo was as described, well furnished, cozy. Location is great, other occupants in the complex both residents and visitors all curtious and friendly.
To be fair I knew when I booked the unit that it didn't have air conditioning, I'd talked to Val in the office and she said because of the trade winds the units do fine this time if year without it. NOT the case, Maui experienced unusually hot/humid weather during the week we were there. Being from Alaska with no air conditioning was a huge issue. "

"Amazing location on Maui
One of the most relaxing places to stay on Maui. The location is amazing -- right on the ocean! Walk to the farmers market. There is a bit of noise from the waves crashing and cars passing by during the night but that is easily solved by ear plugs if you need them to sleep. The staff is very helpful whenever you need them. If you want room service and valet parking then go to a resort (and pay big $). If you want lots of room to relax in your own condo then go to Hale Kai -- you will love it!"

"Relaxing vacation
Overall hale Kai was an awesome place to stay; we stayed their 2 yrs ago and decided to go back again. People are very friendly; you can walk up the street to do shopping or get something to eat, you really don't need to drive. Our unit upstairs had a noisy bathroom fan and it being hot upstairs you needed the air circulating. We will diffentiately be back again. Medicine Hat, Alberta"

"Exceeded expectations
Our stay was lovely. The condo was spotless and seemed recently updated. The grounds were lush. We spent every day at the 2 neighboring beaches and saw turtles in the surf. The only complaint was that there were no coffee filters in the room. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!"

"First trip to Maui!
This was a great experience! The condo was clean, very spacious. There is no AC, but with the breeze from outside it was nice. The upstairs got really hot, but cooled off tremendously at night. Staff was friendly, quiet, and private condo. The beach/park are right next to this condo. The pool was clean, very warm, relaxing. LOVED IT!"

"Pleasant, affordable option on Maui.
The furniture and mattresses in Condo #205 are a bit worn and didn't seem terribly clean. Its hard to clean cloth furniture I know, but the older it is the more haggard it looks and I assume not very clean. The kitchen supplies could be increased. Knives were quite dull. But aside from feeling the furniture and mattresses need to be replaced, it was a nice place to stay. "

"plenty of space
There were 5 of us staying for a week this January in 205 at Hale Kai, and with having 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms we had just enough space for everyone and our things. The unit was recently upgraded, so everything was freshly painted and in good shape. However - the beds were not too comfortable, so I think when doing renovations they should have thought about new mattresses perhaps. Other than that it was well stocked with everything we needed, nicely decorated and comfortable. The pool and BBQ were in a nice sunny location - it was nice to relax there and watch the whales at dinner time. The staff here is great, the location is good - not too far from anything we needed to do, and the farmers market across the street was terrific. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai and would stay there again....just hope they have new beds for the next time...George, Roxanne, Bob, Lila and Dolci - Winnipeg, Canada"

"Hale Kai stay
We selected the Hale Kai primarily for price, as accommodations in West Maui for a family of four are very expensive. Realistically, we got what we paid for. The condo was pleasant and well kept-up, but a bit on the small side compared to other 2-BR places we've rented in Hawaii (Kihei, Kona, Kapaa). The park next door was a pleasant place for families. Snorkeling off the shoreline here was quite good, and up to five sea turtles frequent the offshore rocks and can easily be seen from shore. Laundry here was a communal coin-op (I've gotten spoiled by other condos that had laundry facilities in the condo) and was a bit shabby, although they did have a pretty good collection of books. The overall property was fine, with a well-kept-up swimming pool and decent groundskeeping. It's a small, fairly intimate development, with more of a "we live here" feel than other condo developments (which tend to feel like everyone's a one-week visitor). The woman who works the front desk was very nice; the guy who minds the laundry room etc. seemed a bit of a curmudgeon on the one occasion I crossed paths with him. Location was good for us, convenient to Lahaina and Kapalua."
