Tybee Island Beach Information

Along the eastern edge of Georgia sit a series of barrier islands. The easternmost of these islands, just south of the border of South Carolina and just east of Savannah, is Tybee Island. This getaway is a favorite spot for Savannah residents, but is also draws tourists from across the country.

Tybee Island beach houses are the perfect home base for those who love to be on the beach. North Beach and South Beach compete for attention. North Beach is for quiet relaxation. This long, white-sand beach is perfect for wading, sand castle building, shelling, or just for sitting on the swings and enjoying the view. Beach houses near North Beach also put you in close proximity to the Tybee Island Lighthouse Museum and its lightkeeper houses, which are furnished with historically accurate furniture and notions, as well as the Tybee Island Museum, which is housed in a historic military battery.
Tybee Island Beach
South Beach, on the other hand, is great for fishing-you can even catch sharks! South Beach also has Tybee Pier and Pavilion, where local events, live music, and festivals are held throughout the year. And of course, no matter which beach you choose, you can enjoy all your favorite water activities, like swimming, paddle boarding, and surfing.
If you like to get up close and personal with the sea life, fishing charters and dolphin watching tours can be booked. And the Tybee Island Marine Center is a small aquarium with a touch tank exhibit that is fun for all ages, staffed by informative helpers that are ready and willing to answer any questions you have about marine animals and ecology. The Marine Center also hosts walking tours so you can take a guided exploration of the beaches or marshlands near the Tybee Island beach houses.
Tybee Island, GA Light House
The Tybee lighthouse is not the only historical structure of note on this barrier island; Fort Pulaski was part of the U.S. coastal defense system built before the Civil War, and it is now a national monument. You can take a guided tour of the fort to learn about U.S. military history, or you can enjoy the nature trails that run through the surrounding parkland.
It's easy to see why so many people choose Tybee Island beach houses as their summertime retreat or year-round dream home.
