Corpus Christi area information
Corpus Christi has over 100 miles of sunny beach shoreline. There are mostly calm waters, with choice spots for learning to surf with rideable swell as well as smooth, glassy bays. The beaches are known for their smooth, warm, white sand.
History
Spanish explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda was the first European explorer to arrive on Corpus Christi's sunny shores, and he named it for the "Body of Christ" religious feast day which was to occur the same day. The formal settlement of Corpus Christi was not until 1839, at which point it officially became part of the Republic of Texas.
Rumors of treasure abound in Corpus Christi, thanks to its abundant dunes and miles of relatively untouched marsh. In fact, three Spanish treasure galleons famously wrecked offshore in 1554, and much of their treasure is still unaccounted for.
Population
The first records show a population of just 175 around 1860, though Corpus Christi now has a population of about 320,000, which has steadily grown since 2000.
Housing Costs
The average house in Corpus Christi costs about $290,000 (2022), and demand is currently competitive, with home prices continuing to rise as the area grows. Home prices are expected to grow by 3.4% in 2022, and homes spend about 70 days on the market.
Climate
Corpus Christi has a temperate climate, with mild winters and hot summers. With 33 inches of rain per year, it is a little less rainy (~74 days) than the national average of 38 inches. Corpus Christi's 223 average days of sunshine also beats the national average of 204.
