Perdido Key stretches for 16 miles, and much of this island is a protected wilderness. That means that two state parks and miles of preserves allow you to observe birds and wildlife in their natural habitats as you hike, kayak, and explore the area around your Perdido Key beach house. You can adventure as a group by booking a sailing tour, or you can indulge in solitude by taking a private hike along self-guided nature trails. For example, Big Lagoon State Park covers 678 acres and is home to gray foxes and great blue herons. You can hike the Cookie Trail, which is maintained by the Girl Scouts, or you can rent a kayak to explore the waterways.
When you are ready to head to the beach near Perdido Key beach houses, you're in for a treat. This Gulf Coast location offers the pristine white sand beaches that this region is famous for. From May to September you can see a variety of sea turtles on the beaches as mother sea turtles lay their eggs and the hatchlings make their way back to the ocean. Johnson Beach has a small-craft boat launch on the south side to get you quickly onto the waves in your kayak or wave runner. The beach is open from 8 a.m. to sunset, with seasonal lifeguards.
