This beautifully renovated and modernized Bahamian home retains its original grounds and garden, while enjoying modern comforts and conveniences. Driftwood sits on a hill with views of the ocean from the large upstairs master bedroom. A 5-minute walk down the hill takes you to the world renowned French Leave beach (formerly Club Med), while a 10 minute walk in the other direction takes you to the restaurants and shops in the village of Governor’s Harbour.

To enter the villa from the front, you pass the 10’x30’ private pool, up the stairs, and onto an expansive porch that overlooks the landscaped grounds and ocean beyond. At the front door you enter the open plan dining hall, with large windows in front and back to welcome the cooling trade winds and sounds of the ocean. The interior is light and bright, with white walls, tiled floors and wood ceilings. To the right is the open plan family room and fully equipped modern kitchen with granite countertops, gas cooktop, and stainless steel appliances.

To the left of the dining hall are two large bedrooms. The first is a large guest/children’s bedroom with twin beds (that convert to a king), a closet, and its own bath right across the hall. The second is the downstairs master bedroom suite with ensuite bath (bathtub and shower), two closets and a king bed. Both bedrooms access a private patio for enjoying the sights and sounds of nature in the morning sunlight.

The upstairs master bedroom suite is accessed from the stairway in the hall. It has a large balcony overlooking the grounds and ocean beyond, a large bath with double sinks, and a large walk-in closet and king bed. There’s plenty of room to relax and enjoy a good book or afternoon nap.

In addition to the 3 large bedrooms in the main part of the house, Driftwood has a separate, open plan studio with bedroom, bathroom, sitting room, closet and complete kitchen. The main entrance is from another private patio at the north end of the house; the second is a level entrance into the kitchen from the back garden. In addition, the studio bath has a low threshold shower for handicapped access. The main part of the house and the one bedroom studio are joined at the shared laundry room, equipped with large washer and dryer. The studio can be locked off from the rest of the house.

The back patio and garden area are accessed from the dining hall or the studio kitchen. It is private, protected from strong winds and enjoys afternoon sunlight, perfect for outdoor grilling. After a day on the beach, enjoy a dip in the pool and drinks on the front porch. Driftwood is beautifully landscaped with tropical flowers, palm trees, and fruit and nut trees.

Driftwood is just a short walk from town and nearby dining including the Buccaneer Club and Da Perk. Other nearby restaurants include Tippys (a 4 minute drive) and the Sunset Inn (a 5 minute drive). The historic town of Governors Harbour has grocery stores, banks with ATMs, gift shops, liquor stores, dive shop, bakery, and restaurants. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from the fishermen on the village dock. And don’t miss Friday night fish fry, a weekly beach/street party that brings together tourists and locals for food, drink, and dancing in the street.

Driftwood is fully equipped to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Amenities include air conditioning in all rooms, WIFI, mobile phone, cable TV, Video and DVD player, pack n play, back-up generator, outdoor gas grill, beach & pool toys, beach towels, cooler, beach chairs & umbrella and more.

Nearby Activities in Governors Harbour

Governor's Harbour is the main town on the island of Eleuthera, with a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Eleuthera is most famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is safe and friendly. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks and bikes. There is excellent sightseeing, as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, and a bottomless ocean hole.

Things To Do in Governors Harbour

For most people who make the trip to Eleuthera, the island of freedom, they come for its peace and serenity -- that feeling of being far removed from the rest of the world. One of the best things about Eleuthera is that you'll almost always have a beach to yourself. And the sand is pink! You can go swimming and snorkeling and see stingrays and other aquatic life here. The Glass Window Bridge is one of the coolest spots to visit on the island. The Ocean Hole is a spot you'll never forget.. read more

"40th Bday
Excellent vacation rental. Comfortable, spacious, best location on the island, central and great for exploring with a rental car. French Leave beach was the best beach we visited and it's right in your backyard here. "

"Great vacation at Driftwood house
We had a great time at Driftwood house. The house was pristine clean, well maintained and well equipped. The manager gave us an excellent service and was dedicated. The house has a good location close to a wonderful beach, close to restaurants and Governor’s Harbour facilities. We warmly recommend this property and won’t hesitate to come back."

"Family getaway
We loved our stay at Driftwood. The house and property were perfect, spacious and comfortable for us and our 3 grown children and 1 significant other. The kitchen was well stocked with all items if you want to cook. Misty and her staff were very helpful and responsive especially as we were arriving at the end of a very bad storm. A few suggestions I might pass on to the owners as both an interior designer and a STR host is that a few additional comfortable pieces of furniture in the upstairs bedroom would be wonderful. The view is fabulous and I would have loved to curl up on a comfortable chair to read up there especially as our weather was a bit cool and windy. Additionally the tab style drapes were very difficult to use- either get blinds or attach rings and hem drapes so they slide over the rods easily.
A note to first time visitors too- although the food and restaurants are wonderful it is VERY expensive! Plan on spending a lot of $$$ for good and drinks. We were planning on cooking more but the seafood boats were not running due to the storm.
It is worth it though as the close French Leave beach is one of the best beaches we have seen in all our travels. "

"Great Home Centrally Located in Eleuthera
Beautiful and spacious home! Super clean and functional with a lot of kitchen appliances and cookware. Beautiful landscaping and inviting pool with ample lounge chairs. Outdoor seating/tables on porch and patio were welcoming. Umbrellas, coolers, and beach chairs provided were very convenient when heading to the beach. Manager was super responsive and helpful. Restaurants and beautiful beaches were close to the property. Has a generator in the event of island power outages. We loved coming home to this property and pool after long days at the beach!"

"Beautiful property & location
Certainly a wonderful place to holiday, stunning beach in easy walking distance and a short drive to the most beautiful and deserted beaches. Governors harbour is how I always imagined the Bahamas to be, photographs never quite catch it. The house was a dream although a little too big for three of us, Misty and her son were terrific and we felt in good hands. I would highly recommend Driftwood, especially for a family. "

"A lovely place to rest and explore
Our family of 8 adults met on Eleuthera for a week in March. This was a return to the island after more than 30 years for several of us, and we were pleased that it has retained its charms and natural beauty. Driftwood House is very well located if you like spectacular beaches, charming towns, and a central location from which to drive and explore. The house is well designed, furniture is very comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped. Visitors should know however that the water is from a cistern and is not potable. We drove to various food stores to refill 5 gallon jugs of drinking water every other day. The house was perfectly clean and is well cared for. We all enjoyed Governor's Harbor, the Friday night fish fry and conch salad stand, the library, nice restaurants, etc. We went to French Leave Beach daily, as well as other beaches. We jumped into the Sapphire Blue Hole, kayaked at Edwin's Turtle Pond, snorkeled on the way to the Schooner Cays, visited Harbor Island, and the Leon Levy Nature Center. We need to come back to do more exploring on this pretty island with such friendly people! "

"Good not great
Overall - House is good not great. Has potential with some upgrades/ better upkeep
Pros - Location close to French leave, good for groups with the separate in-law suite, pool is great - plenty of room for kids to play
Cons - House needs a deep cleaning, some paint and overall closer attention to maintenance needs by management (ex: shower curtains with pink slime at bottom, broken shower heads, dirty doors, etc). Water pressure was an issue (very difficult to shower). House has bare necessities but not as comfortable/homey as many other houses we’ve stayed at in GHB. "

"An Adventure
Our vacation started off with the most helpful host-Misty. We had many delays and she helped us navigate through them and helped us get on a ferry to the island.
When we arrived to The Driftwood House the outside looked tired but the inside was bright and had all the accommodations mentioned in the description of the house.
The house was clean at first appearance but the floors had hair all over them along with sand-no big deal I am good at sweeping!
Our stay was a grand adventure and we had lots of fun.
Unfortunately the Droftwood House was broken into on a Thursday when our host knew we were out for the day visiting Harbour Island and her son was supposedly to be on the property to pick up the trash and put chemicals in the pool.
When we rreturned to what we thought was a secured locked house, the door to the guest wing was unlocked. The house had been ransacked with $1200 in cash taken, 3 mens bathing suits, mens underwear and socks, an A&M Columbia shirt, a pair of Addidas shoes, Vuori Shorts, and ear phones from Apple.
Oddly enough the very next evening we ran into Misty at a restaurant celebrating her birthday. When we arrived there was a gentleman outside of the restaurant that was not right-I would say on some kind of drugs.
As it turns out it was Misty’s son.
This was no happenstance that this event occurred so it would reveal what happened the night before.
Misty said she filed a police report but when talking t a police Sargent in Nassau she followed up on it and nothing was reported.
I also asked Misty for the Home Owners name and number and she would not share them with me. I went down every path to get to the owners and Dina finally emailed me.
After speaking with the owner of the home I am hoping she can get this situation under control so other visitors can visit Driftwood and feel safe and confident they will not be robbed.
Myself and my family have travel around numerous islands outside the U"

"The Perfect Home away from Home
Driftwood was the perfect vacation home for our family of 6 adults and our 2 year old grandson. We needed a relaxing vacation, and Eleuthera and the home was indeed that and more. It was perfectly located to restaurants, the port, the beach, and great for early morning walks. The amenities offered in the home were great. We had everything that we needed and felt like we were very much at home. The home was very clean, spotless and also was very welcoming. I recommend Driftwood and will rebook again. The dishwasher, washer/dryer were of great use for us. I didn’t think I would need a dishwasher but we prepared breakfast and dinner most days, and thank God there was a dishwasher! The necessary utensils were all there, even a tea infuser, blender, coffee maker, everything you need for a relaxing vacation on a beautiful island. "

"Beautiful, comfortable home!
Driftwood is a beautiful home and was the perfect layout for our group (2 families- 8 people). The house was clean, rooms spacious, with nice, modern decor. The pool area is so fun! Maybe some more shade in that area might be nice- another umbrella or two? The manager was super responsive when we called about some wasps nesting outside the front door. He showed up within minutes and took care of the issue. I would definitely stay there again, and really look forward to my next trip to Governor's Harbour. Such a great town!"

"Amazing stay at Driftwood!
Driftwood was amazing! The property is well maintained, pool was great - protected but sunny (when we had a couple windier afternoons on the Atlantic beach). View of Atlantic from the top floor master is beautiful. Rooms are all spacious with essentially two master suites - one on the main floor and one upstairs. In addition there are two other bedrooms with twin beds (one is a separate but attached apartment) that can be converted to king beds. Driftwood is well equipped. If you like to cook, the kitchen has everything you need. There is a large porch for dining outside, along with a large dining table inside. Located within a few minute's drive of French Leave Beach Resort, downtown Governor's Harbour, the Buccaneer, Bacchus fine foods etc. - the location is exceptional! Driftwood was great for our family. Misty, who is the property manager for this house, clearly understands hospitality, is wonderful and would call periodically on the flip phone she provides to check in, offering suggestions for excursions, restaurants etc. She allowed us to briefly store our packed luggage and groceries in the back of the house's studio apartment as we were transferring to another location for our second week on the island. She gave a great recommendation for a fishing charter in Savannah Sound (Captain Bubba) and lunch afterward. Also arranged for a driver for an early morning departure to the airport. Everyone should have a "Misty" in charge of their property! Thanks to Misty and the owners for a great stay!"

"Beautiful home, beautiful people.
Our family had a wonder stay at Driftwood. Well equipped including a marvelous kitchen let us feel like we were at home. The pool was great and beautiful French Leave Beach a short walk away. Close to all Governor’s Harbor had to offer but remote enough to be as quiet as we wanted. Our host Misty was always eager to help. By far however was the friendliness and welcoming attitude of the Eleutherians. Can’t wait to go back!"

"Best Family Vacation Ever
I booked this property because it had room for me, my husband, and our adult children as well as privacy form my daughter and her fiance. We all just LOVED it! The property management is excellent, the town is just a short walk away and the beach is not only magnificent it is memorable. I was a G.O. at the Club Med which owned this beach in the early 1980's and it was so bittersweet to see this world class pink sand beach again. The ruins are still there to explore. Cheers!"

"Four Girls in Eleuthera
Overall experience was fantastic! Property looked as advertised, and the layout was perfect for our group. The home was beautiful and clean but not spotless. A large amount of hair was visible throughout the home from previous guests. Thus we had to sweep the entire home on arrival, A vacuum cleaner would help alleviate the hair issue. The master bedroom had breathtaking views from the balcony and the bed was comfortable. A small wooden table in the room was dusty and in desperate need of polishing. The shower curtain was stained at the bottom and hair was on the shower floor. The master closet was huge but I honestly didn’t use it during our stay. The entire house is painted white which gives it an airy clean feel, however the bottom portion of the doors were a little dirty. The kitchen was well appointed and beautiful. I wish I could’ve packed it up to take with me back home! An outlet for the coffee maker wasn’t working so we had to move it to the other side of the kitchen. I was disappointed to find old coffee grinds left in the coffee maker as I prepared my first cup. A Kering would make for a pleasant update. The open layout was great for chatting and cooking. The pool was clean and lounge chairs were ample. The beach wagon, chairs and umbrellas were a total hit. The additional studio was clean but the air felt stagnant and a not so pleasant odor was present. I had a wonderful stay at the Driftwood and would definitely return. "

"Lovely House, Lush Grounds
Our stay at Driftwood was delightful. The house is well-built, clean and clearly well-managed. The four bedrooms provide ample room and privacy for all guests. We particularly enjoyed the front patio with the fan, a great place to enjoy an evening cocktail and look out at the lush grounds. The pool is close enough to the house that it's easy to just run and jump in at a whim. I particularly enjoyed being in the pool in early evening, swimming and relaxing and listening to the many birds who call the Driftwood property home. More than once a plummed bird stood on the edge of the pool, calmly watching, intently listening to our whistles. French Leave Beach is a fast 3-minute drive down the hill. Its beauty is incomparable. You can walk forever, either way, and the water is perfect for swimming. Several nights we sat on the beach just before sunset with wine and cheese and crackers and listened to the water lapping the shore. We shared the beach only with nature. The other amenity of Driftwood is its closeness to town in case you have to run in for a forgotten grocery item or can't resist the coffee and muffins at La Perk. This was our third visit to Eleuthera. We keep coming back to discover more beaches, which number over 100."

"Beautiful home, pristine condition, highly recommend!
The moment I walked into Driftwood I knew I had chosen the right property. The home is beautifully decorated with bright colors and very comfortable furniture. The layout of three bedrooms on the first floor (each with their own bathroom was perfect for my family. One of the bedrooms is actually a small living space with a sitting area and kitchen far from the other two. This worked out well as my daughter, son in law and 9 month old baby had their own space. The master bedroom on the second floor is huge with a magnificent view of the Atlantic in the distance. There is also a deck off the bedroom overlooking the pool. For me, one of the most important things when renting a property, other than cleanliness, is the comfort of the mattresses and bedding. We all agreed the mattresses were great! The front porch is spacious with beautiful comfortable furniture and is completely shaded. There are plenty of beach chairs, 2 umbrellas and a wagon. The beach is about an 8 min. walk down a dirt road. We either walked or drove and had no problem parking. I can’t say enough about the property manager, Misty. When we arrived to discover the crib I had rented for the week was not delivered she immediately came to the rescue with a brand new Pack’n Play. She was helpful in every way! Eleuthera Vacations was also wonderful to deal with. When I sent an email to them saying there was some noisy construction going on at the house nearby they immediately responded and arranged for them to stop until we left the property. Whoever rents this property couldn’t possibly be disappointed! "

"Location, location, location! French Leave Beach
Beautiful clean large home, meticulously maintained with numerous amenities.
Walk to French Leave or town, the location could not be more ideal. For windy days, stay at home and enjoy the pool. "
Mar 29, 2019 - Harold P., North Salem, NY

"As advertised
We enjoyed our time at driftwood. The home is well appointed, has fast as lightening WiFi and a layout friendly to a group. The weather altered our plans and had us using the house more than we had intended; so thankfully, the space, layout of the house suited us perfectly. We enjoyed a trip to a Harbour Island, beach exploring in southern Eleuthera and a private boat excursion to snorkel and swim with the pigs. Our favorite spot for food and cocktails was definitely 1648. We would suggest a house manual to help navigate options and to especially alert guests to no see em protection (we were so bitten from first day that it affected our willingness to explore for fear we wouldn’t make it home before dusk.). "

"Perfect location and amenities
This was our second visit to Eleuthera, and this time I focused on location as a deciding factor. The location turned out to be very convenient both to the beach and to GH. Each is a 10-minute walk or a 2-minute drive. We loved being able to walk to town rather than driving every time. An added bonus was having the Bacchus cafe/deli just a few hundred yards away. The house had all the cookware we could want, and a few staples. You'll need to bring or buy spices if you want them. Our party of 6 cooked breakfast and most lunches, and a couple of dinners. The bedrooms are ideally suited for privacy for a party of 6, and 3 are quite big with en-suites. The fourth was a bit smaller and doesn't have an en-suite. We used the 4th bathroom for a guest bathroom. Misty was very helpful and friendly. We loved having the pool to cool off in after the beach. French Leave Beach is one of the loveliest I have ever seen. We and our friends are already talking about returning!"
Jul 05, 2018 - Michelle B., Houston, TX

"So Very Comfortable...
Frequent traveler to Eleuthera wanting to stay closer to town for a portion of our trip. Driftwood, in Governor's Harbor, was ideal in every way. The Owner could not have been more delightful, EVR so helpful and property management responsive. The property offered spacious and clean rooms, nice light, and all the amenities to make the stay comfortable. The pool is such a plus!!! Spent time each day enjoying being refreshed. Easy access to restaurants, groceries, and French Leave Beach. "
Jun 23, 2018 - Edward B.

"Another great trip to Eleuthra
The driftwood house was the perfect place for our vacation. The house has everything you need and is a very short walk to town and the beautiful french leave beach. The house was clean and spacious and Misty was very attentive to any questions we had. This was our second trip to Eleuthra and we hope to be back very soon. "
May 11, 2018 - Jennifer S.

"Fabulous!
My husband and I needed a quiet, relaxing vacation and this home fit the bill perfectly! The location could not have been any better as it was a 10 minute walk to one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever been on and we have traveled extensively. We were greeted by Misty who is the property manager and was so helpful and accommodating with restaurant suggestings and places to visit, such a friendly and warm person. Although the home had 4 bedrooms, we only need one and had plenty of room to relax. The house well appointment, spotless and has everything you need to make you feel like you are home. It is decorated in bright and calming tones with ample pool toys and towels as well! We relaxed with coffee each morning on the deck deciding what beach to visit which was the hardest decision we had to make all day (besides where to eat!) We ended the day with a cocktail by the pool! Perfection! Although there is some building going on in the area, we were not bothered at all by the noise. The house is well insulated and we were out the door by 10 am most days returning at 4 when all construction concludes. My only regret is that we had to leave! "
Apr 30, 2018 - Lori L.

"Eleuthera Break
We had an excellent experience at Driftwood. It was us and out three girls. The cottage was well equipped with plenty of room for three teenage girls and their parents. The beach is about 1/3 of a mile away and virtually deserted. I don't think there was ever more than 30 people on the mile long stretch of beach. The sand is a beautiful pink and the waves relatively calm. Restaurants and the town of Governor's Harbour were also a pleasant walk. We came needing some peace, quiet and relaxation and that is exactly what we found. "
Apr 09, 2018 - Sarah W., Avon, CT

"Happy stay at Driftwood
We had a wonderful stay. 5 mums getting a post holiday break. Lots of fun. House and pool were lovely. Owners, agent and manager all v nice and helpful. Great location. Like most rentals, the pool is not heated so bear in mind for cooler months and in Feb 2018 there was construction behind and beside the house, but it wasn’t noisy or disruptive. We would very happily return to this property. "
Feb 21, 2018 - Katie M.

"Exceptional!!
Our family of 9 loved and enjoyed our stay at Driftwood. The property and house was perfect for our 7 day stay. Restaurants, beaches, and groceries are literally within three minutes drive. We could not ask for a better place to stay. We visit Eleuthera annually and this has been by far, our favorite vacation house. "
