"Delightful and accommodating
Things were as we anticipated. We greatly appreciated the location, and also the accommodation for the dogs! Plenty of room for everyone, a great kitchen, and very "guest friendly". We would enjoy staying there again. "

"Lovely and spacious.
We very much enjoyed the house! Gorgeous and spacious! It was a bummer about the construction going on in the neighborhood all weekend, but I understand that couldn't be helped on your end! I would like to be a little closer to the beach next time, but it wasn't bad. The road is a little noisy. Otherwise, really enjoyed the house, the beautiful yard and trees, etc. Would have appreciated a little more stock on paper supplies, but not a big deal. Oh! And multiple people could not figure out how to get the showers to work, haha! Maybe put up a sign in the bathrooms showing the little lever ring on the spigots. Thanks again for a nice visit, really appreciate you all over there at Sunset :)"

"Captain's Hideaway - Perfect retreat
The house was big and open. We loved the open kitchen, dining area and family area. The decks were wonderful. We had a small child so the gate on the deck was very helpful."

"Great house for two families
This was a great house for two families vacationing together, with sleeping arrangements for one family upstairs and one downstairs. The house was clean and had an ample supply of bedding, linens, dishes, and cookware. Very spacious, lots of room to spread out. Walking distance from the beach and right next to a green belt forested area that the kids could run around in. All in, a great week. We’d love to stay here again. "

"Fun times
The Captain's hideaway was well maintained and clean. It is just as described. We enjoyed our stay and would like to return in the future."

"Happy stay
Overall this rental was fantastic. Loved the vaulted ceilings and deck space. Plenty of bedrooms and usable space. It is ideal for adults, though one thing to note is that there is little to nothing available for kids. It is on a main road so youngsters outside alone is concerning. There are no toys or kid friendly areas and walking to the beach with kids wasn’t a wise option due to the traffic on the road. There was some sand on the tile floor when we arrived but I suppose it’s probably difficult to get it all out. Those are really the only negative things I could say. Beds were comfortable, fans were provided to keep upstairs bedrooms cool, the nature surrounding the house is gorgeous and the beach is less than a minute drive away. For the price this place couldn’t be beat! "

"Good value
Very nice main area with good-sized kitchen, large dining table and very nice main room that easily accommodated our group of 8 people. Stocking of the kitchen was good but not flawless (no plastic wrap or other storage items). It would be great to add in a hot tub in the backyard. The downstairs was definitely cooler than the upstairs. All in all though, a nice rental house. The property management people we dealt with were all very friendly and professional. We'd definitely come back."

"Men’s Group Retreat
We do an annual Men’s Group retreat and this was the best place we have stayed so far, perfect for a large group with wants to build community. Large, spacious kitchen which is open to the dining and living room. Good space to do large discussions and an ample number of beds. "

"Thanksgiving get together
We (9 adults, 2 children) stayed 4 nights for a Thanksgiving get together. We loved the house. The quiet location was very nice. However a location closer to beach would be preferred. It was difficult for small children to walk back after playing on the beach and we didn’t want to drive down. However I was late making a reservation and we needed a pet friendly house, so choices were limited."

"Great house and geat service
The house was perfect. Super clean and well-stocked. We had an issue with the garbage disposal and fireplace and Sunset sent over a maintenance guy who fixed both quickly and unobtrusively. Would definitely come back."

"We very much enjoyed our stay!
The house worked very well for our family weekend. We had 8 adults and 5 children. I especially liked the large living and dining/kitchen area. We never felt crowded. The kitchen was well supplied with the cooking utensils we needed. The beds were comfortable. There was plenty of seating in the living room. And we could all gather around the table for meals. The Sunset Vacation staff were friendly and answered all my questions before our stay. We had no problems during our stay. The beach was within walking distance but there was very little shoulder to walk on and a fair amount of traffic, so we drove to the beach. We were there during a very busy time-Labor Day Weekend-so the traffic may be less at other times."

"A great getaway!
My sisters and I always pick a different spot for our annual gathering with family, but we had such a great time here we may have to reserve it again! The place was very clean, and an easy jaunt to the beach. The upstairs is roomy and the kitchen is really well laid out so lots of space to cook and chat. The weather was perfect and the front upper deck was a great place to enjoy morning coffee and listen to the waves or relax with a nice glass of wine and some good laughs. Can't recommend this place enough!"

"Fun time at the beach
The house was very nice. It was very spacious and our group of 14 had plenty of room:)) just a 15 min walk from the beach:)"
Aug 06, 2018 - , Sunnyside, Wa

"Great spot for a group!
The house is beautifully maintained and great for a gathering. We had 12 adults and always felt like we had plenty of room thanks to the big kitchen, living room, and deck. The beach is only half a mile away, and the center of Manzanita is only a little further, so you can mostly leave your car behind. Highly recommended!"

Comfortable house, well equipped"
Nov 06, 2017 - Elliot G., Portland, OR

"Great for large groups!
We have rented this home 3 years in a row for a company retreat, and it works out great! The house is very clean and the big open kitchen, dining & living space make it very easy for us all to gather. It's conveniently located and just a short walk to the beach. I intend to rent this house again next year and highly recommend it! "

"Beautiful, open and spacious
While staying at the Captain's Hideaway, our family really enjoyed the beautiful home. The kitchen was large and easy to work in with multiple family members using it. The Grounds were a wonderful place for the kids to explore and have fun. The washer was used extensively and really appreciated; as was the dishwasher! I also appreciated the "little" extras that showed they had thought of many users at a home. There were hooks in the bedrooms for towels. There was an extra large fridge in the garage. (Thoughtful!!!) And there was a small fridge and microwave in the downstairs area, as well. There was a large parking area for many cars since our family all arrived separately. The response to fix items was quick. There is a rental company that responds to your needs. We did not realize that they would send over additional drinking glasses or I would have asked for some since there were only 7 when we arrived. But at checkout, they said they have those and could have sent some. The rental company was not aware that there was a crock pot at the house so we brought our own from UT. But it is generally well-stocked with what you need to cook and prepare food for a group like we had. The elevated deck that you can see in the picture has a locking gate that made it easy for us to let children be with us on the deck. According to my fitness bracelet, the beach is about 1/2 mile from the house. You can walk or drive there. The house was clean and was easy to keep clean with tile floors that we swept daily. Cleaning supplies, such as toilet cleaner/disinfectant did not seem to be available in the bathroom, but soap for the dishwasher and dish washing soap at the sink were provided. Laundry soap was provided but I noticed that the towels we washed did not come very clean. They probably need bleach. In general, we liked the location and how the home was outfitted for our trip. Thank you, Captain's Hideaway!"

"Great rental for family reunion
We had a glorious week here with our three children and 5 grandchildren. Perfect house as it sleeps up to 16 people. Beautiful interior with cathedral ceiling on the main floor. Large kitchen and well stocked. It has a large deck in the front of the house where we had great time of sharing and enjoying the sun. The deck even has a gas grill. Another plus for us was it had a garage with extra refrigerator and space to place 5 bikes we brought with us. "

"Nice House!
Great house! Everything was as described and the pictures are accurate. It's a lot nicer and newer than most of the vacation rentals we've stayed in. We comfortably slept 13 with all the adult couples in their own bedrooms and the kids piled on to the various sofa beds. The kitchen is in great working condition and we used the grill extensively.

The only negative (and we knew this going in) is that you are a 10 minute walk to the beach. Several members of our group initially didn't care so this was fine for us. However, after the weekend was over, all of us agreed that a beachfront house would have been worth paying for."
Jun 11, 2017 - , Portland, OR

"Beautiful Weekend
We loved the house. There's so much room in Captain's Hideaway and the kitchen is fabulous. The fact that we got lovely weather after all this rain was just icing on the cake. Mazanita is a great little beach town and we plan to return."

"Good for big groups but had some issues
Though we had an enjoyable stay, this house had some issues. First of all, I have never rented a house that made me feel so unwelcome. We had to sign multiple disclosures and papers saying we wouldn't sue them for this or that and that we promised not to DO this or that at their house. They even made me document when my dog had been flea treated last. There were warnings all over the house about different things we would get fined for doing or damaging. Second, I bottomed out our van seriously twice on the driveway. The west side of the driveway has a dip in the very corner.  We now have a big dent under our van. (Tip... its harder to bottom out coming from the East) Next, though the house is dog friendly, there is not really an area for a dog to go to the bathroom other then on the soil in the side and back yards. As far as kitchen amenities. They don't have soup spoons, just teaspoons. Most of the knives are dull. There are pots and pans but the frying pans are not great. They need more mixing bowls. Also, unlike many beach houses, there are no bikes or beach toys available. And, be aware... there is NO WIFI. I didn't read the fine print on that one and the teenagers in our group were horrified. They survived, of course! Also, the remote upstairs doesn't work very well and I could never get to the menu part of a DVD. Thus, we had to watch all the previews on every movie until it finally got to where we could push play. The same remote worked fine downstairs. We also could not get cable upstairs, though it did work downstairs. The parking really would only hold four cars. The house comfortably sleeps 10- everyone else is on futons. The driveway was very close to a relatively busy street. And it rained a lot!! With that said, it was clean, had a nice layout, and a nice open main room. "

"Captains Hideaway Easter 217
We came here with 3 generations ages 6 to 65. The house was perfect for our group. A bit of a walk to the beach but not too bad. Slept all 13 in our group comfortably. Hope to come again"

"Re-Scheduled Because Of Tornado
I had made a reservation for a small church men's retreat for mid-October. However, the day we were scheduled to arrive the water spout touched down that morning.
So we re-scheduled for 11/18--11/20 at the same reserved property, Captain's Hideaway.
The city had done an amazing job of cleaning up the downed trees and construction materials. The house was clean, comfortable, and pleasantly furnished. My only suggestion would be to provide more cookware and service ware. I would recommend this property and we mostly ate there."

"Family Reunion in Manzanita
We enjoyed our stay in this house. It was spacious, decorated beautifully, and well maintained. The only complaints were the lack of screens on most of the windows so we couldn't leave them open for fresh air and the location. It was on a busy main road and not as close to downtown Manzanita as I had thought. "
Sep 23, 2016 - Julie N., Long Beach, Ca

"August rental for family reunion.
Comfortable unit close to the charming town of Manzanita. Nice open kitchen-living area for larger groups. Proved ideal for our annual family reunion. While not on the beach, it was 5-10 minute walk or 3 minute bike ride. Lack of sidewalks however required adults to accompany the kids. Roadside blackberry bushes were fun for family pickings.
Main drawback was lack of WiFi. Also, I would suggest adding a ping pong table in the garage -- it would be a nice amenity for inclement weather."

"Captain Hideaway
Enjoyable and a great value."
Sep 06, 2016 - , Georgetown, TX

"Captain's Hideaway August 1 - 5, 2016
Overall very good I would stay there again. The house was very clean, bedding was very clean, there were plenty of towels, TV and cable service was nice to have, and all the staff I encountered were nice and very professional.

Here are list of items for improvement:
1) Care given to the back and side yards so it can be used.
2) Brush and shrubbery removed from next to house to reduce spider infestation.
3) Cut back hedge near road so that oncoming cars can be seen without pulling out into road.
4) Can you provide better cooking pans or if there is an issue with theft can you provide some for checkout. These are items I normally do not carry with me.
5) The stove elements seem to be heating unevenly. They might be old.
6) Our upstairs guest indicated that the upstairs shower was faulty and she found a flea.
7) Lots of spiders but may be due to shrubs and brush up against the house."

We had a wonderful weekend. The house was perfect for what we needed. Thank you."
May 20, 2016 - Sandra K., Portland, OR

"House was Awesome, just don't leave anything behind.
Our stay was awesome. Our only concern was that we had accidentally left a binder with almost 100 DVD's on the TV stand. I'm sure the cleaning crew got them. I called and they told me they would have someone go look for it, & call me back. They never called, so I guess the DVD's just vanished. Probably won't stay there again."
Apr 29, 2016 - CARL G., Yakima, WA

"Worth the price
We had a lot of fun. Its a beautiful home with lots of space for three or four average size family's. We rented it about ten years ago and it was as nice today as it was then. My only suggestion or heads up would be that it doesn't offer Wi-Fi but besides that it had everything and we will definitely rent it again. "
Mar 08, 2016 - Jacob B., Gresham, OR

"Great house for crabbing
Plus - really does sleep 16, nice grill with installed gas line, ample space, beautiful wood construction, short walk to beach, and overall very clean.

Cons - no internet, no panty essentials other than some salt/pepper. Could of used some sugar, cooking oil, foil, and other kitchen basics. The house only includes the bare necessities. "
Oct 19, 2015 - Paul L., Portland, OR

"Home away from home
Our stay at Captains Hideaway was very comfortable, cozy yet spacious!! Our family loves to cook and the large kitchen was fantastic!! The only thing missing in the kitchen was a coffee grinder;-). The large garage worked great for laying out scuba gear and day packs! The layout really is ideal for keeping sand out of living quarters!! Thank you so much!! We will return!!"

"Quilters Delight
We have stayed here many times as a quilt group.
This time there were a few things we discovered that need attention. The upstairs toilet tank is dripping on the floor behind it. The downstairs bathroom light switch needs to be replaced as it is very touchy to get the light to stay on. There was no laundry detergent for us to start laundry before we left. Heat does not work well downstairs. Please provide more blankets on the bed."

"Always a great experience.
For 13 years my friends and I have a long weekend of catching up, The Dune and golf each fall. Sometimes 12 of us make it, sometimes 16, this place is a perfect accomodation. Reasonably priced and close to our activities."

"Captain's Hideaway - Great Stay!!!
We loved staying at the Captain's Hideaway. Everything you could possible need was provided, including the bbq grill! The house was spacious. Totally easy to "unplug" and be in Manzanita! Great walk to the beach and easy bicycle to town."
Aug 12, 2014 - Jerri M., Boise, ID

"Captain's Hideaway in Manzanita, OR
The house is really nice without feeling posh, modern with lots of light wood inside, very open architecture, pleasantly decorated with a consistent nautical theme. Kitchen is well laid-out and equipped. The house is located fairly far from the beach and quite far from 'down town' Manzanita but is nestled against the beautiful Neahkahnie forest below Hwy 101. The road in front carries a lot of local traffic to and from the highway which often travels fairly fast, so care is needed when backing out of the driveway. There is no wi-fi, so plan on trips to the library or other wi-fi enabled local businesses like Manzanita News & Espresso if you need to connect to the Net without cellular. Probably best to rent somewhere else if you have trouble with stairs, however. The lower floor has a small common room and full bathroom with 2 bedrooms which enables 2 centers of interaction in the same structure, if desired. It easily served our party of 10 very well (and will handle up to 16 for sleeping). We enjoyed our stay and intend to return in the future."
Aug 03, 2014 - John & Sarah B., Forest Grove, OR

"Beach get away
We loved renting this place. It was large and accommodated 8 of us comfortably. The large screen TV in the living room with the blu-ray player was nice. It was great sitting out on the deck. It was a 10 min. walk to the beach. We were disappointed that it did not have wireless internet available. "
Jul 08, 2014 - Jim & Dianne H., Moses Lake, WA

"The Perfect Retreat!
Our group of 15 had an absolutely wonderful stay. We were all very pleased with the accommodations, especially the spacious open floor plan of the upstairs. Everyone had comfortable places to sleep, there were ample linens and supplies, and the house was extremely clean. I liked the setting in the trees, and the large covered porch. The kitchen was a great set-up for cooking and serving large meals as well. Thank you for providing a great retreat for our group!"
Mar 06, 2014 - , Newberg, OR

"Fantastic Place Manzanita
We had a wonderful time in this open, comfortable and well kept home. Would recommend to stay and at very reasonable rates. :) Thank You!"
Dec 20, 2013 - Gina A., Brownsville, OR

"My family stayed here while attending a wedding.
I did not give this property a 5 star on general condition or location only because some light bulbs were missing, some outlets did not work and the ceiling fan did not work. The location was far from town and a long 7 blocks to the beach on a narrow road, not safe for a stroll. Other than that it was a very nice house. I would probably not stay here again only because I would like to be closer to the beach."
Oct 10, 2013 - Sandra C., Hillsboro, OR

"A very nice property
The great room is perfect for many people to all hang out in the same area, which was great for our group. The porch leads off of the living room area very nicely. The kitchen was wonderful to work in. We enjoyed the experience very much. The house was quite a walk from the beach (10-ish minutes) and even longer from the main street of Manzanita, which was our only complaint. But the size was perfect for our needs."

The home was great not as close to the beach as we like but just a short walk .The home was fantastic would recommend to anyone we had a great time. thank you "

"Great home for family and friends
This home is perfect for a large family to come together to spend time lounging on the deck or in the great room spending time chatting, relaxing and hanging out. The house is only 10 minutes walking distance to the beach and is often times sheltered from the wind and harsher weather other homes get right on the beach."

"Late May Stay
We had a really great stay at the Captain's Hideaway. Our only disappointment was one of the bathroom sinks broke during our stay. That made for some problems since we had 7 people who were using that bathroom upstairs. "
May 30, 2013 - Jean H., Portland, OR

"Labor Day Getaway
Our family had a wonderful weekend at "Captain's Hideaway". There were 10 of us and it was nice to have space for everyone and a table big enough for the crowd! We enjoyed sitting out in the sun on the deck while playing games and reading. The beach was a short 10 minute walk away. "
Sep 18, 2012 - Jennifer A., Portland, OR

"Great house, drive to beach
The house itself is quite nice. Good layout, with two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs, nice kitchen, decks, grill. The location is not really ideal for walking. It's a brisk 10-minute walk along a quite busy road (no shoulder) to get to the beach. Ok for adults, not so great for young kids. The walk into town is quite long. In the past we've stayed in South Manzanita (near the golf course) and really appreciated being able to easily walk to the park, ice cream, beach etc. I probably would not choose this location again."
Aug 26, 2012 - , Portland, OR

"Overall, a great place to stay.
Overall, we were satisfied, though the dog kennel enclosure was unusable due to a large hole in the chain link fence and another at the base where a previous dog had dug through. The cable tv was not working upstairs so we only watched DVDs, which was not a concern for us. There were a few things that need attention: the bbq grill needs to be repaired, only half the burners ignite, the ceiling fan in the upstairs king bedroom does not work, and there is some mildew that should be removed in the downstairs bathroom. The house is VERY well stocked with plenty of linens, towels, dishes, pots, pans, etc. It would have been nice if the downstairs king bedroom had a usable closet or place to put luggage, we had to bring in chairs and set our suitcases on them for the week and had no place to hang clothes. We were VERY satisfied with our stay, would definitely stay again and would recommend to our friends! Thank you for a great vacation experience :)"

"captains hideaway
Manzanita has a lovely beach! The house was clean and perfect for large groups. The kitchen was well stocked and it's nice to have laundry available. The water heater kept up nicely with alot of people. The dog kennel has a hole that the medium sized dog could escape from but other then that, we loved it! I highly recommend this property for large groups!"

"requests and suggestions
We loved our stay - we would like to see the furniture on the deck washed off so we could use it with out cleaning first. Overall our quilt group throughly enjoyed your space - I have two groups now that we spend time at this property and we love it. "

"Solid home in Manzanita, good for a group or family.
The key to this home is the great room - that is, the living/dining/kitchen. The soaring ceiling and walls of windows make it a wonderful space. Wish there was a stereo, and better lighting in the living room, but overall this is a fabulous place, albeit a mental haul (though really just 10 minute walk) to the beach."
