"Beautiful Housee above south Kona-Kaqilua
We really enjoyed the house and the setting of this vacation rental. The sunsets were spectacular, the house spacious, wonderful lanais, lots of good beach and pool toys, and the private pool was great for our grandkids. Be aware that the driveway can be daunting, and longer wheelbase vehicles like minivans are not suited to go to the upper level. The kitchen was well-stocked, although all the knives were pretty dull, it would be good to have at least one sharp knife for cooking. Our big complaint is that the house is advertised as sleeping 8, including two on a sleeper sofa. The sleeper sofa is horrible, really unusable as a bed, and needs to be replaced. And there were eight of us, including two little ones. Fortunately Knutson's managers were great, really considerate and responsive to the situation, and got us foam pads and bedding for the little ones. If you have 8 adults in your party, make sure the sleeper sofa has been replaced!"

"Beautiful, but obvious rental
This house is gorgeous. I would have loved to have seen it in its prime. The house is so nice that the minor negatives really show.
On stepping through the door, the first thing that I noticed were scratches on the floor. The hardwood floor was magnificent, but the scratches really stood out. Theses scratches have been caused by people moving furniture. My guess is that non-family types have been renting this house, riding it hard and putting it away wet. Similarly, in the kitchen, the white range, refrigerator and sink all have visible scratches. These could easily be touched up with bathtub porcelain repair paint. There were also small paint scratches on walls that could be easily touched up. The toilet seat in the master bedroom was visibly warn and discoloured. Many stains are carpets.
It the totality of the circumstatnces, these defects are miniscule. The issue it that the property is so nice that the minor issues do stand out.
The house has a great layout. Lots of space both inside and on the lanai. The pool area is great as well. The only negative being that it was unheated. Air temperatures were in the low 80's as was the pool. You had to be hot to go in (January). We could not find any lighting in the pool area. It would have been nice to use at night. I did find at a later time, underwater lights in the pool but no one could tell me how to turn them on. There were some pool and beach toys & chairs. Two masks, both broken.
The house is not air conditioned. Generally there is a nice breeze. As long as the house is opened up, it is well ventilated. There was one night that was very still that we wished that there was AC.
For such a large property, the propane grill was quite small. It worked, but had the typical hot/cold spots. I wouldn't have put good steaks on it as they would have been difficult to cook.

"Big Island fun.
Big island vacation. The location of the house was great, but you need a car. The property is beautiful with amazing sunsets and views for days! The pool is great and pool deck gets a nice amount of sun. The house could use some work. The kitchen is decently equipped but the knives are dull, broken and pretty cheap. The patio screen doors fall off the track a lot and need to be replaced as they are patched together. The ceiling fans all need to be replace as they are loud and don’t move much air anymore. The patio furniture consists of two chairs two side tables and two dining tables. It would be nice to have a place for 4-6 people to sit comfortably and enjoy the great sunset/ views! The carpet in the house has to be replaced as it has lots of stains and is kinda gross. The home had lots of great beach toys and chairs to use. Knutson was easy to work with and I would rent a property form them again, all in all it was a great vacation. I know this review looks bad but it’s not, just need to put a few $$ into the property to make it more in its price point. Enjoy the big island, it was great!"

"5 star place!
We went there for our 30th anniversary. The house is incredible with rooms for for entire family. Having bathrooms for each couple was especially nice. Very quiet neighborhood. We would definitely stay there again. Short drive to town for shopping or fun. "

The home was the perfect size for our family. The pool was a great place to unwind after a day at the beach. The balcony was spacious with an amazing view. The house had lots of stairs with one set of stairs being a bit unsafe. The house was not air conditioned which for the most part was ok but one of the bedrooms did not cool down like the reddy of the house. The location was close to stores which was nice"

"Kailua Kona House
Overall the house was as described. It has a beautiful view, appliances and everything worked, and it was clean. The only problem was getting in because the form had said a key box with a code at the front of the house which was not at the front and the code was for the actual door and not the lockbox. Maybe it was an update but I think they just need to update the form. "

"Kona retreat
Family trip to hawaii. The pool was a great size and the landscape kept it private. My 7 year old was fine in the shallow end and gets to about 5 1/2 ft deep. Toys and beach chairs were there. Only a short drive to magic sand beach. The house was spacious and the deck was perfect. The view was nice allowing amazing sunsets. "

What you are looking at is exactly what you get, the home has a great outdoor appeal with foliage,
pathways,gardens and yes the pool area is awesome.The pillars in front make it mansion styling and this all is in the drive up the driveway.The interior is very large and open,kitchen has all you need,loads of seating,towels,bedding,pillows,nicely finished and lived in,which gives it a very comfortable feel,but,but, when you step out on the covered deck,yahoo folks,second to none, the experience will be all yours, fill the fridge with your favorite beverages head outside sit down and guaranteed you'll be having this memory stick forever in your collection,amazing.The staff at Knutson are absolutley first rate and have supplied you with an amazing vacation rental,well done,well done

Overall, I recommend this property. Management company was very communicative and thorough, we had no issues during our stay. Pool was a huge plus, there were a lot of pool floats and toys already there to use. However, I'd note that, as many others noted in their reviews, the driveway is VERY steep and can be problematic for certain types of cars or walking up/down and there are a LOT of stairs inside, which wasn't an issue for us, but I can imagine might be a concern for others. Interior was clean and overall I enjoyed the open space concept. However, some of the decor and other accents throughout the house are very outdated and old/worn out. The view from the lanai, however, can't be beat! "

"Kona house
The house is in a great location with beautiful bird sounds all day. A little dated with the furniture and needs new mattresses.
Lovely patio to sit out almost any part of the day to enjoy the view of the island and ocean.
We tried to use the Jacuzzi tub the last night and didn’t work. The hot water heater must be pretty small because only one person in our party could take a shower at a time. "

"Wonderful stay
We had a great time staying at the beautiful property. The house was clean and welcoming. There was plenty of room to accommodate our family. My favorite part of our stay was eating dinner on the deck and watching the incredible sunsets. "Safety issues and construction Noise
Our Stay was ok, we were surprised by maintenance and safety issues on site and disappointed we were not made aware of the fact that all homes surrounding the property were under construction every day of our stay at the time of booking. We would not have booked.Water leaks on lanai and wood rott were concerning given the height and posisble dangers associated with structure issues on the lanais."

"Amazing Sunset Views
The home is exactly as pictured. Please keep in mind that there are 2 entrances, front entrance requires going up a lot of stairs to get into the main living room, the back entrance requires a car w/ high bottom clearance, to get to the top of the steep driveway. Wasn’t a problem for us at all; we took the SUV to the top parking and parked the convertible downstairs. There is no AC but the house but that was a non issue for us, there’s tons of windows and the breeze coming through kept the house at a perfect temperature. I loved that the house was equipped w/ plenty of beach toys and gear. Comfy beds, lots of linens, toiletry items and even a closet stocked w/ sunscreens, lotions and aloe (that I discovered after the fact) and kitchen was fully stocked (we left it more stocked!) with spices and sauces. Home is located in a great location. This home is definitely a gem for the price! My only disappointment was that the pool is located across the driveway, from of the house; it gets sun but not enough to warm the water enough (we went in February), so the water was too cold to get in."

My family thoroughly enjoyed the property for one week. It is in a fabulous location and had amazing views. I was impressed with the property from the moment I walked through the door. The property had all the essentials we needed for cooking. There were beach chairs and snorkeling equipment. I am glad I brought my own snorkeling equipment because there was not enough for our large family. Although the chair in the master bedroom needs replaced, the master bedroom was incredible and such a nice retreat. I would definitely stay here again. "

"Amazing outdoor space
This was our first trip to Hawaii and I wanted to be outside as much as possible. This place had multiple outdoor sitting areas with fantastic views of the ocean and city. We had beautiful sunsets every evening. The house was very spacious and lovely and we made good use of the kitchen. After spending the day in town, it was so nice to go to the house where it was quiet (other than the wildlife). We also very much enjoyed the pool when we weren’t at the beach. The entire family was extremely pleased with accommodations. "

We had a great time at Ono Hale! The pictures are very realistic to what the actual location looks like. We had our family of 5 plus 2 friends and there was lots of room. There are lots of stairs so if you have trouble with stairs this isn’t the place for you. The driveway is very steep so again it could be tricky getting in and out. There is no air conditioning but it was never an issue, well ventilated. The pool is not heated and that would be my only complaint even though I knew that when I booked. We would spend the day out and about and it would have been nice to lounge around the pool at night but the water was just a bit too cool. If you are staying there all day, the temperature would be fine. The accessories in the home are beautiful but the furniture is a little worn out. The home was clean and the management group was great. I would strongly recommend this place to any of my friends. "

"Beautiful house with an amazing view
We were there with our family - our two adult children and their spouses, plus our 15 month old grandson. We arrived at night so we were unaware of the amazing view until the next morning when the sun rose! We all agreed the house was a great place to stay! We loved the openness of the main floor, the large kitchen, and the beautiful big lanai. We also enjoyed having the pool, even though it was a bit chilly in the water (it was January), it was a great place to hang out. The stone staircase inside the house leading to the lower level caused some concern when we first arrived, but our grandson was so busy running around the rest of the house that he never went near the stairs! "

This spacious rental has a nice view from the balcony. There were several items in need of maintenance. We could not get port-a-crib to work, garbage disposal noisy, blinds not functional, seal broken on refrigerator and glass panel on balcony was missing, making it dangerous for our toddler. With some TLC I might have rated this higher. "

"Spacious house with an incredible view
Overall house is very spacious with an incredible view from the deck.
We chose this house for the deck, view and pool and it has exceed our expectations.
The garden is well maintained, the pool and the house very clean : we really appreciate. House decoration and furniture are kind of antics and well decorated.
We found everything needed to make our vacation easy.
In term of improvement:
Have a welcome pack with Hawaiien products or samples (coffee, nuts or flowers).
Some curtains in the master bed room are torn apart.
Having a more personalized arrival instead of just a paper printed can be also well appreciated.

"Great view
We had a great stay! Kids loved the pool & we loved the lanai! Beautiful sunsets! Beautiful views of ocean. It was very clean, clean linens. Spacious house, so lots of room to eat together, play cards & games. Has a washer & dryer. It was very easy to contact manager if had any questions. Good customer service. We would recommend this place.. Good location, went Costco,Walmart on way before we got to house.. next day we drove to south point to jump rock, another day we drove to Hilo to another jump spot & visit bigisland candies & Braddah Pops. Then last spot kids went to was the end of the earth to another jumping spot. We had a awesome time! BigIsland is beautiful!! "

The view of Kona and the ocean are spectacular. The home was clean and well kept. However, I would alert those that are handicapped that the property has many stairs. While I was able to negotiate the stairs others may not. "

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. The view is breathtaking! Sunsets are amazing. We loved that all the rooms were very well spread out. It was clean upon arrival. Few things to keep in mind: it’s a three story house-so there is a lot of steps. There is no A/C. But it’s not bad at all we always left the windows open and we got air of cool air coming it at night. Also, the driveway is very steep. We had two convertibles and scratched the bottoms of them first time we pulled up, until later we learned how to angle the car while coming up to avoid scratching. It’s manageable especially that made it up there on such low cars. Just take it slow. Other than that the house was perfect. "

"Fantastic stay on the Big Island
Myself, my husband and our two adult sons stayed at Ono Hale for two and a half weeks over June/July. We absolutely loved the house, it was clean, well equipped (plus loads of beach equipment and towels) and the chairs and beds were very comfortable - not always the case in rental properties! The gorgeous pool was a godsend to cool off in and afternoons were spent in the shade of the fantastic lanai where we could watch the sun sink slowly into the ocean. Every member of our party loved the house and Blake and the team at Knutson were very helpful and responsive. We didn't have any problems that needed attention but Blake contacted us to check that everything was OK which was appreciated. Kailua Kona is a long and expensive journey from the UK where we live but if we ever come back, and all of us would like to as the island is magical, this is where we will stay!!"

"Great house for a family vacation
The house has a beautiful floor plan and the lanai was our favorite spot. We loved the pool! I didn’t mind paying the $250 cleaning fee expecting to have a clean house. It was not dirty enough to bother with dealing with the cleaning staff, but there was a pool of dirty coffee water on the counter by the coffee maker, a grape stem cluster on the shelf in the bedroom, a dirty fork on the dinette bench, to name a few things. The rugs in the bathrooms were either filthy dirty or badly stained. Either way, they were so worn and badly need replacing. There was trash piled up at the end of the driveway and the trash can was overflowing. We had to store our trash at the bottom of the stairs for 5 days. After a long day of travel, we all were looking forward to a shower, only to find not one washcloth in the entire house. After sending a text, which seemed the only way anyone would communicate, they sent housekeeping with 5 washcloths the next day. More than one dish towel and one dish cloth would have been nice and potholders would have been useful. Overall, we enjoyed the house and think the property is beautiful. "

"Beautiful Home for the price and location
Our stay at Ono hale was amazing. The one and only thing that was negative was all those stairs. There were lots. But besides that, everything was perfect. The property management was very accommodating to our needs and the home was well maintained. We are already looking to book this house again in the future. The pool is beautiful and my family enjoyed laying out for hours enjoying cocktails and really just enjoying the home. Last thing, the views from the outside lanai were breathtaking. We will definitely be staying here again."

"Not quite what we were expecting, but still great!
Overall the property was just what we needed to enjoy our vacation. Beautiful view, perfect location, close to everything we wanted to do, lovely pool, great BBQ, amazing lanai overlooking Kona and the ocean!
A few things to take note of... not particularly negative, just something that potential renters should be aware of.
1. Unless you have a high clearance vehicle... do NOT go all the way up to the back of the house. I almost high centered the Nissan Quest we rented. Luckily I was going down slow so I was able to back up and after a numerous point repositioning, I was able to go at the steep incline on an angle. The driveway at the bottom is also very inclined, so be careful coming and going. Nothing too bad that angling your entry and exit won't fix. But I did catch the muffler a few times.
2. There is A LOT of stairs. We actually kinda liked them for the purpose of exercise, but if you have bad knees this house may not be the best idea for you. (But if you can handle the stairs the climb is worth the view!)
3. There is no AC. I thought there was when we booked it, but it was because the rental documents are general for ALL properties, so it was a mistake on my part. I did go out and buy two fans from Walmart to keep air circulating. Which did great.
Overall, we had a very lovely time at the house and on the Big Island! "

"Ono Hale evaluatuon
Overall, our experience was a very good one. Beautiful grounds and pool. The house was wonderful. However, all of the towels and hand cloths need to be changed to new ones. The house does have a musty smell, especially in the lower level. The mattresses also need to be upgraded as well as bed linens. Televisions and the cable service also need to be updated. An HD tv but no HD service. Lanai is very spacious but there is mold on the support trusses. "

"Beautiful view, but, must have car or UBER account!
This is a great house with plenty of space and open floor plan. You must BOOK your car before you go. The property is up in the "Sunset" section of Kona. Close to a coffee farm and an outstanding place to buy coffee fresh! Complete kitchen, which we used. Super clean baths, bedrooms and kitchen. Great coverage deck. It's all about the VIEW!"

"Great property, wish the property management was better
First and foremost, we had a great vacation and loved this place. The house was beautiful with some nice gardens, a great lanai, and a stunning pool. The kitchen is well equipped, and there were a ton of swimming and beach toys to use. However, the property management was not impressive; they didn't mark the property as paid for on VRBO until the day we arrived (I had to call in long before to confirm the VRBO knew I had paid for the rental) and they didn't include a required fee in the original estimate; they also didn't collect the right amount for tax originally and charged me the difference during our stay. Still, this was pretty minor and was not nearly enough to detract from the excellent place. "

Overall a 3 Star Rental... cannnot give a proper review in 2000 characters. “good”-Excellent location, lanai and pool.”Bad”- Poor maintenance and many worn out items. (Screen door, kitchen cabinet hinges, broken blinds, Slove light, tub jets, blurry TV) Driveway to main level parking not passable by average rental car. 32 steps from available parking to main level. “Ugly”-Grounds need serious cleanup,trash removal and trimming. Some furniture not fit for Good Will donation( bedroom chair, pool umbrella, deck chair) Owner needs to reinvest in his rental to solve longstanding problems and worn out items. "Epic Family Vacation
The house was amazing! The pictures didn't do It justice as there was way more space than expected. The lanai was the best feature. We spent most of the time on the lanai it was spacious and had fantastic views. The management was very responsive when we had an issue. We couldn't find the BBQ equipment (later found it in a box). The management came the next day with new utensils. The rental was clean and well maintained. The only drawback was limited kitchen equipment for 8 people (serving bowls,pots and pans). But I sent a list of things that would be useful for the kitchen and I expect they will address this. The location was central. We had a rental car and were able to get everywhere easily. I would recommend this place to other travellers."

" Aloha It's a beautiful house and has a million dollar view but
Here are a few that I think you would want to be aware of if you are considering this property. All the pool furniture, the table and the chairs all rusty at the base and legs are very sharp rusty metal and falling apart. I moved one chair off to the side into the bushes so nobody else would sit in it. This chair is broken and it should be discarded. I mentioned when I met you in your office I was renting this for my 80 year old Mom from North Carolina to be with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. I am happy my Mom didn't sit in that chair. The cushions on the lounge chairs out by the pool are torn up and rolled up in a ball. In the bedroom on the north side of the house, there is a sitting chair with torn up cushion with the stuffing falling out of it. All of the screens on the sliding doors are all torn up with holes and even out of the frame on some. We needed to go to Longs and buy mosquito punks and place them out on the lanai so the mosquitoes would not come in the house. Kitchen cabinet doors one on the left side of the stove upper cabinet keeps hitting people in the head because it won't close. The same problem exists with the wall cabinet over the dishwasher. This one I'm embarrassed to talk about. I got cold from all the rain we had lately. I went to the closet to grab a blanket. There was a green blanket that apparently has a very strong odor of urine. This is not only unsanitary but it is a health issue. I gave you the the courtesy of a phone call and discussed these issues offline as per your email stated. I would like to say the Property Management Company was responsive to my concerns and relayed these concerns to the owner. I must say that I am very disappointed with the $129.00 offer of compensation for my experience at this property that I declined so I could write this review. It's an accident waiting to happen."

"Ono Hale Heaven
From the home to the Knutson staff, this was, by far, the very best rental experience we've had ANYWHERE! Calling this home beautiful is an understatement! It's a fabulous place and deserving of any accolades given it. A fabulous lanai, incredible master bedroom, and truly usable kitchen are just 3 wonderful attributes among hundreds. Fabulous home with lots of great vibes. Blake Kessner with Knutson made this happen for us, and he has no peers!"

"Amazing views and spacious place
We were a large family and everything about this property was perfect. The bedrooms could have been more, but overall a great place. There's enough room to spread around and lounge. The covered patio is awesome and the views are priceless morning and evening. The service from property manager Blake was prompt and courteous.
Only drawback was the insects due to the tropics. But it's expected anywhere in HI.

Very nice home with nice furnishings. Missed working light over stove... kitchen nook 3 of five bulbs out... missed various sizes of mixing bowls.. otherwise we enjoyed our stay very much..."

"Family Holidays
Awesome house! Amazing sunset views from the huge well protected lanai. The house itself is almost too big when spending so much time outside! Only draw back is that the house interior is not very toddler friendly as the big stair case is difficult to block but my little one had a blast on the carpeted lanai. "

"Delightful
This lovely property is perfect for those of us wanting to experience Hawaii from a "local" standpoint. Situated high above Kailua-Kona, the view from the tree canopy is nothing short of stunning, panoramic. We spent many a moment sitting and staring as we relished the quiet.
The house itself is stunning and unique, spacious, immaculately clean and affords privacy in each of the three bedrooms. The beds themselves are very comfortable.
The kitchen is huge and affords ample work & eating space. We do wish there'd been more prepping, storage & serving bowls.
We didn't use the beautiful pool much as it was bitterly cold, shaded by foliage and a bit of a trek to & from (we are seniors).
The other aspect of the property we hadn't counted on was the steep grade getting to and from it. Once we figured out how to navigate the driveway it wasn't a problem, but we didn't enjoy our usual daily walks because the roads were quite steep to navigate.
Access to tourist attractions, shopping and the like was easy & convenient.

"Family review
The positives included the location, the snorkle gear and the property. We were disappointed that the entire morning of our last day included visits by the gardiner and pool maintenance workers which kept us from using the pool and surrounding area. Plus, there was construction on the adjacent property with excess noise, which we understand was not anyone's fault-just disappointing."

"Beautiful and relaxing getaway
We stayed at Ono Hale for 3 nights after watching my daughter play in a volleyball tournament in Hilo. When we arrived at the house, we were amazed at how big and beautiful it was. We loved the lanai and it's view. The kids loved the pool so much so that we just spent all 3 days on property. Love this property and will definitely be back."

"Stunning views in a top notch new construction home
We had a very relaxing time at the home. The only problem with the rental is that you may scuttle some of your Kona-area plans to just stay at the house. The main deck is enormous and completely covered giving shelter when it rains and providing a 15-mile view from left to right. Beds have excellent linens and are high quality, as are the towels. Good luck keeping happy children out of the pool! "

this made the trip to Hawaii experience very great. the pool for the kids having the master bedroom upstairs overlooking the vegetation and ocean. just a great way to vacation wish there was AC in the house very hot but the property manager did go buy us 3 fans to help.. if I was the house owner id invest in ac in the rooms."

"Comfortable and roomy
My family had a comfortable stay for the Labor day weekend with plenty of room for some friends we hosted.The price was reasonable and the kids enjoyed the pool. We cooked every night so the large kitchen was very helpful. If kona is our destination in the future I'll be looking for this property again "

the accommodations were excellent, beautiful place and all the amenities needed. they had even sunscreen, beach chairs and snorkel equipment. the view was superb. the pool was quite a treat. the only set back was the distance from the best beaches. make sure you know what you want to see at the island."

"Kona views
This is a wonderful property though the steep driveway challenging. Recycle bins for the property would be helpful, as well as extra paper goods. Not having extra TP and paper towels was rather unusual and not the industry standard. Little to no sun at the pool due to vegetation but lovely none the less. There were scuff marks on floor by kitchen when we checked in and some dust/debris behind doors. Many insects in house-roaches and centipedes seen. Because we had no information on wehre to find beach supplies we did not know they were downstairs-and rented equipment. The information is not in the guest book. Grill needs cleaning also."

"Just lovely!
The house was incredible! We loved it. Beautiful, exceptionally clean, and very well stocked. It had lots of space and a great energy. Located a bit up the mountain, it was nice and cool, very quiet, and when the moon wasn't too bright there was tremendous star gazing. Just a short drive to town but still felt isolated. Perfect location. We didn't want to leave! "

"Amazing property, amazing island!!
Jaw dropping is the only way to describe this property! My friends and I felt like millionaires living here as the property is beautifully finished and the view to the ocean is to die for. The pictures really do not do it justice. Great amenities and spotless throughout. The management company were great, dropping round a requested spare key and the booking process was smooth and straightforward. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this property or the company managing it. My only suggestion would be a stored camp bed to use in one of the rooms to avoid using the sofa bed in the main lounge (yes - there are two!) or if or use by any children staying. However, the absence of this did not cause us any huge issues. We have already discussed our desire to return to Big Island and if this property was available, we would book it again in a heartbeat. I'd recommend this property to anyone who stands still long enough for me to gush about it. I even took a video to show my family how incredible it was. Loved it!!!!"

I love this house! The hone is beautiful and immaculate, the grounds and pool are wonderful. The generosity and hospitality of the owner and care taker make you feel right at home.
The only negative would be that there are many stairs and a steep driveway that would make this difficult for anyone with difficulty walking.
The views are incredible as are the lanais."

"Beautiful home; excellent caretakers
Gorgeous, spacious home with more than enough outside space. Wonderful for outdoor eating, on the lanai or poolside or on the back deck. Cared for outside daily; gas supplied for grill without asking. Upstairs master bedroom has private balcony and very large, well appointed master bath. Home easily accommodated our group of 5 (3 adults, 2 teens). Good location with great views. Onsite caretakers a nice touch."
