"staying in 1311 on Plam Island
The unit above ours was being rehabbed as a result of hurricane damage. Lots of pounding Monday through Friday while we were there. Think we should have been forewarned about that! Lovely beach, some birding to be done, very quiet at non- construction times. The whole set up is a bit confusing--drop the cart here, get keys there. Thought all of that could have been more clearly stated and in one place, not three! There is a handout on activities but it is not clear which are free (or maybe they all are??) and where they meet. All of that needs to be clarified. But we're on Bonita Beach now, and I already miss the quiet of Palm Island, the beauty of the beach. Wish we'd investigated off-island birding spots more. Our one meal at Rum Point was mediocre at best. "

"Our Happy Place
We have been going to Palm Island since the mid 1990's. We were happy that one of our favorite units was available, B1311A, especially after Hurricane Ian.
The unit is close to the pool and the beach and is beautifully appointed. This is the third time that
we have stayed in this particular unit. As I mentioned, we have been coming here since the mid 1990's. The only drawback this time was the fact that we couldn't go in the water due to the seaweed and the developing red tide. It is extremely disappointing trying to explain to your grandchildren why it's dangerous to go in. Recent news reports warn of possible flesh eating bacteria in the seaweed along the Gulf Coast. Although the resort is not responsible for Mother Nature, one has to keep in mind the considerable expense incurred. "

"Wonderful Stay!
We visited Palm Island Resort for the first time with many friends from college in support of a golf tournament that one of us was hosting. It was a great little hidden gem. The grounds were well kept and the staff was extremely nice. It was kind of hard to find the clubhouse but a friend who had been there before helped me locate it. The unit we stayed in (1311) was very updated but the sofa could use an update. The pillows are flat and probably need replacing on the sofa too. The beds were decent but the pillows were very flat. They are also due for replacing. Other than those small items, we truly enjoyed our villa. The restaurant choices are limited but that’s understandable being on a secluded island. Nevertheless, we had a great time and would return again."

"Palm Island Resort is not what it used to be.
Over the years we have been to Palm Island Resort at least 6 times and have always loved it. We returned last month for the first time in 5 years and were extremely disappointed in our condo. As a result we cannot recommend unit #1311. It is the only unit with 2 king beds so it is very popular. I think the owners know they have a much desired unit and are choosing to take advantage of that. Our list of complaints is long. Highlights: Only 3 chairs for the screen porch table and they were so corroded it was disgusting. One king bed was very squeaky whenever someone moved. It was determined the box spring is long overdue for a replacement. The kitchen was POORLY equipped-knives that are extremely dull, pots and pans that need to be thrown out, no potholders, rubber spatulas, pizza cutter,etc. The can opener barely worked and leaked disgusting black crud in each can. The list goes on and on. We had to scrub several dishes that were not clean before we could begin cooking. The kitchen drawer with the silverware is broken and gets stuck while wide open. There are no bar stools at the kitchen counter though every unit we've ever stayed in had them. The owners had the water spicket at the front steps capped so even though we used the neighbors' we still walked through sand to get to our unit and always tracked a lot in. Two dresser drawers were missing knobs. To make matters worse the office manager was not at all friendly. She was clearly agitated with my complaints. She and the office clerks kept saying the owners are the ones who make decisions about the units. We can't talk to the owners though. The resort staff is our only source to go to. I've never seen a staff be so unsupportive of the customer. The office manager never got back to me though I requested 3 times that she do so. It was very hard to know we were paying the same price as people in other units, yet getting far less for our money. Every unit should meet a minimum standard requirement and quality."

"Beautiful Views
Rental and photos exactly as shown. The property is in the perfect location close enough to the pool with amazing views of the ocean. Rental was cleanup on arrival. Staff was excellent! The only problem we had was the master bedroom bed is extremely uncomfortable. If that was replaced this place would be a gem. We truly enjoyed everything about this rental and look forward to renting this unit again. It was just what our family needed. "

The outdoor furniture and couch need updated, a few knobs on the dresser in king room were missing, dryer door difficult to latch, crumbs and ghost ants on kitchen table and cockroaches found on last day in coffee pot and kitchen. "

"Thanksgiving Family vacation
As a family we started staying on Palm Island in 1987. Now our oldest child has two daughters of her own that are about the age she and her brother were during our first stay. We usually came in March for the kids' spring break. This was the first time we came in November. We are comfortable on Palm Island. We feel safe. The staff are friendly and anxious to please. All three of our grown children wouldn't think of another place to spend a week at the beach. They feel at home here. The setup is wonderful. The condos are nice and well maintained. The grounds as well. We don't know of anywhere else where one can walk two miles of beach with so few people. This year we introduced our granddaughters to the fun of finding shark teeth on the beach. While we didn't spot any manatees, we did see dolphins and starfish. If you like quiet and peaceful Palm island should be your destination."

"Cox beach vacation

"Beautiful Island -Beautiful condo-Just plain Beautiful
We arrived a little early to Check in and we were given the keys immediately. I was surprised at how updated our unit was and the amazing view. The beach was never busy and so many shells and shark teeth to find. I can’t imagine anything better. It’s like having the Bahamas in Florida. Also all of the staff was very friendly and helpful. "

"Lovely resort / loud distracting maintenance outside of the unit
We have always had a great experience at Palm Island, but for the week, this trip, the unit we were staying in was being painted on the outside. There was a huge bucket truck outside our windows that was extremely loud and had a strong diesel smell. We had to keep the windows closed to help muffle the sound and avoid the fumes. My family missed being able to have the windows open in February, and enjoy the great outdoor weather and smells of the gulf. I know maintenance has to be done and Palm Island Resort is very well maintained and lovely, it was just disappointing this trip to be in the midst of it! "

"Our 20th visit to Palm Island
We actually stayed in this condo for 1 week, and added an extra day to make it 8 nights. This condo has many brand new updates: flooring, bathrooms, kitchen and new floor plan configurations for the kitchen and master bath. The kitchen has been bumped out to make it larger and what a positive difference that makes. The master bath is no longer a galley bathroom, but has more space. (We would have preferred "no tub" as it is difficult to climb in and out of the shower/tub. The smaller bath does have a nice "accessible" walk in shower. This condo, we assume, is still being worked on. There was no seating available at the kitchen bar, sadly. And there were no screens in any of the master bedroom windows. We had a perfect week of weather, so it was sad to not be able to open windows and hear the ocean. (We asked the front office for at least one screen, and were told it is the owner's responsibility to provide screens). The screened in porch still has the old furniture and no lighting. Furniture inside was a bit sparse. Even with these "negatives" we loved the condo and would request it again. The improvements made were great. We assume improvements will continue."

"A Slice of Paradise
Very private and sparsely populated beach. Excellent for a quiet get-a-way. The staff is very professional and extremely helpful, We spent our 50th and 58th wedding anniversary's there and had a marvelous time. WE are looking forward to returning to Palm Island Resort for our 59th anniversary. "

Palm Island Resort is by far the most private, relaxing and rejuvenating place to escape the "Perma Cloud" that envelops the Midwest for so many months in winter! The staff of the Resort is top-notch with customer service and are dedicated to stewardship of the wildlife that call Palm Island home. One suggestion for improvement would be an active program for recycling guest disposable waste. Any other place to vacation pales in comparison, as we've learned first-hand. We'll not stay anywhere else!!!"

We stayed at Palm Island Resort for a family reunion. The island is perfect for an event with multiple guests: you can stay intimate in your villa, but the island has all kind of facilities for gathering with more people. Pools (every few blocks), beaches, restaurants, tennis courts, basket ball court allow to enjoy the beautiful scenery and gather with your people.
Villa are clean and furnished appropriately. It is not a luxury place, but super clean, luminous and spacious."

Overall our vacation was great! We knew the Unit didn’t have any upgrades and that the floors weren’t in the greatest was a little weird having carpet in the bathroom though. The only other issues we would point out would be how the kitchen cabinets aren’t In the greatest shape and the door under sink area wouldn’t stay closed properly. The master bathroom cabinets seemed to be falling apart underneath so we just kept all our items on the countertop. The villa Definitely needs some work done, but if we had last minute travel plans again, we would probably give this unit another try."

Our stay was fantastic! The unit was clean and comfortable. The proximity to beach access was perfect and the view from the unit was unforgettable. The resort was beautiful and well maintained. The beach was pleasantly unpopulated. All the staff we encountered were super friendly. The food at Rum Bay was good and reasonably priced. We came pretty well prepared knowing there is no grocery on the island and didn't return to the mainland until our departure. It was a perfect getaway! I wouldn't hesitate to return!!"

"Best Gulf view by far!
It had been 25 years since I had visited the Gulf and we were eager to show our friends from out of town how beautiful it was! We chose this condo for the view and were not disappointed! Even though it was on the lower level you still had a commanding view of the Gulf. The condo itself was very adequate, though a bit "tired," but again, the view was paramount. A word of caution about "no-see-ums." If you're not familiar with these wretched little insects, be forewarned, they will make your life a living **** unless you use insect repellent consistently. We were eaten alive and after being back a week and a half, we still have bites on our legs and arms and they still itch, though not as badly as the 3 sleepless nights we had after first being bitten. Don't let these monsters ruin your vacation as they nearly did ours. Your memories should be of the gorgeous sunsets from the lanai and hunting for shells and sharks' teeth on the beach! We will definitely be back although this time with a boatload of DEET!"

The location Was beautiful! So glad we were able to enjoy our friends special day on the island. Condo was pretty, but a little worn. Plus there was someone's dirty underwear stuffed next to the bathtub in the master bathroom.and the master bedroom coverlet was dirty when we arrived.
Overall we really did enjoy ourselves and would go back again."

"Best one Yet
One of the best vacations I've ever had. I stayed the last week in September. I'm guessing because of the hurricane a lot of people cancelled their reservations seemed NO ONE was there. I had the entire beach as far as I could see to myself on 2 of the days, the other days maybe 3 or 5 people were on the beach. he pool was empty everyday, I never saw anyone in the pool the entire stay. Needless to say it was a very peaceful QUIET experience. I loved every minute of it. The unit I stayed in was a bit worn down but the room was spotless not a speck of dirt or dust or sand anywhere and the outside of the resort was extremely clean. "

We go away a few times a year to Marco Island, Naples and Fort Myers Beach but didn't know this place exists. In my search looking for a special at places we've been before as well as looking for a new place in those areas a special for Palm Island resort came up and I am so glad it did! We have been there over a half dozen times going in a few weeks again I make it a once a month trip! If you're looking for something different and only want to drive a few hours or are willing to fly here to the state of Florida this is the place to go there's nothing like it! "

"Wedding weekend
My husband and I visited Palm Island to attend a wedding. We stayed 2 nights and 3 days. The resort is well maintained and staff are very friendly. There were remnants of Red Tide on the beach but it was still beautiful in spite of that. The condo was very clean and well stocked. We had a beach front view and the weather was perfect. I would recommend staying here. I can't wait to come back."

We booked this resort because we wanted a place to relax. We didn't want to spend too much money dose went with the standard villa and I definitely would stay in the same room again. My only complaint was that the water leaked out the side of the shower and because of the leak there was some mold near the floor on the wall. This could easily be fixed. Other than that I do not have anything negative to say and can't wait to go back again! The views are amazing!"

A great place to relax and de-stress. There was some construction going on to update the outside of some of the buildings that is much needed. The workers started and stopped at good times to keep the noise at a minimum.
The on island restaurant staff was awesome, the food was great. We took the boat ride over to the restaurant at the marina for Brunch one day; they had great food as well. It was a very relaxing vacation. We will be back!

My brother and sister in law came down for my birthday this year and I wanted to enjoy a vacation at a beach which I have never done before. My other sister in law has been here before and suggested Palm Island. Thank goodness she did. It was truly a "vacation"!!!! Everyone there was so nice and couldn't have been more accommodating. The place was immaculate, and the view and beach amazing! We also met so many other people who owned or were just staying as we were and enjoyed them as we did everything else there. Thank you

Overall a great experience. We've stayed at the resort many times over the last 18 years and plan to return! However, the unit we stayed in this time had not been recently updated (which we knew when we booked), but some things should not be considered updates. The dining room chair seats were ripped(stuffing coming out) and the screen porch had small tears, which potentially allowed small insects to enter the sitting area. "

I've been coming to Palm Island for over 15 yrs now. It's always a great time. Being just 45minutes north in Sarasota, it's an easy drive but still feels like a great getaway! I always enjoy RumBay and riding around on a golf cart. Palm Island Resort is always kept up very nice. The unit we stayed In this time could use some work on it. It was still a great getaway! "

The only problem we had that now a days , we had internet for maybe 15 minutes a day in the morning . There should be modems in each villa..I needed to work while I was here to make my vacation doable . Over all our experience was good. I have to say the trash in front of our villa facing the beach was more than I think are up to your standards . But it didn't bother me but maybe someone else. The pool seemed a bit scummy around the edges but I am sure that was from suntan oil/ lotions. I still enjoyed my swim . "

Palm Is.Resort BEACH is a favorite or ours over the last 25 years.Unit 1311 needs repair/maintenance.Broken Icemaker,Beach stairway railing loose;woodchips under sink-?termites; guest BR TV keeps shutting off. Good Supplies in Unit. Washable throw rugs would be a great addition it would help keep floors clean. Unit 1311 was clean just needs some TLC. WE Will be Back. WE live in MN but winter in Arizona and come to Palm Island in January February and loved every minute!"

"Great place to go, customer service needs some work
Great hidden gem of Florida. My wife and I had no idea this place was right in our own backyard. Took less than 90 min to drive from our home to the resort and well worth the drive. We were greeted quickly, checked in with ease, a bellman helped with our luggage and golf carted us to our villa. The room was well kept, great beachfront unit just steps to the beach where mid sized conch lined the beach and apparently are there all the time. We did have two complaints with the staff. First, I had to argue with the person who took our reservation as they were telling me the Living Social voucher I purchased was not valid for that weekend (fri, sat, Sun) because it was the week before thanksgiving. The only blackout date listed for living social was Thanksgiving day and they would most certainly be filling up and booking to capacity that weekend. During our stay, only one other room in our building was occupied, debunking what the reservation magager told us. Second, we rented two paddle boards and went out in the area near stump pass. While paddling, the ore my wife and I were using broke at the paddle, leaving us out in the water and having to lie down and prone paddle the board back to shore. Not really a big deal, but when we asked to be compensated since we spent at least an hour trying to get back we were told "you were given intact equipment that you brought back damaged We could charge you for the damage to the paddle." Sarah (I'm assuming an assistant manager) said she spoke with Kevin (the manager) and that our compensation would be that they wouldn't charge us for damaging their equipment. All in all, we will go back since it is a great, secluded and quiet place to bring a family. The resort staff just needs to work on their customer service regarding issues/problems that may arise and honor vouchers without argument. "

We attended an anniversary/family reunion and it worked out beautifully. Each family rented their own condo and met up at the pools, hot tubs, beach and condos for meals. Lots of space and privacy. Great time."

Great vacation location. Friendly and helpful service staff. Great food at resturant on island. Helpful with luggage. Only issue was we arrived and our room wasn't ready. Had to wait an hour for staff to finish cleaning. There was a huge wedding that week that checked out so staff was overwhelmed. They comped us free beach towels for inconvienence. Other than that, there were no other issues at
all. Had a great time and would recommend to anyone wanting to get away and enjoy a secluded island with exceptional service and beautiful wildlife. "

We realized during this trip it's been 25 years since our first PI adventure! We are now bringing our grandchildren to enjoy all the fun their parents had as children on the island. What an amazing place to stay. Very serene and peaceful place to getaway to. No nightlife really but that's not what we came for. The water is beautiful, the sunsets are breathtaking, and the company could not have been more perfect. Exceeded my expectations in every way. It was extremely hard to leave "our" beach. "

"Beach Villa
The location of the villa was perfect, close to the pool, Gulf front with great view of the beach and sunset. However, the unit has not been maintained very well and is very outdated. The furniture was old and worn and the kitchen just barely adequately equipped. The dining table wobbled when we tried to eat dinner there. The unit overall was very worn and felt like it has been heavily used. It was a disappointment after having stayed in 3 other villas over the last few years.The owners should be urged to update and refresh the villa if they expect to charge the same rental fee as other units."

"Lovely spot.
The villas are well designed, airy, spacious and solid. The sand dunes and beach are beautifully maintained in agreement with nature. Even though our villa was not updated, it should have had clean looking furniture, area rug, sheets and a fresh smell about it. It had a dank and musty smell all during our stay. We had to have the sheets changed. The condition of the bikes and golf carts is shockingly poor and not in keeping with what should be considered a quality resort. ie. ripped seats and rust. I wondered why there weren't more singing tropical birds. Despite the maintenance issues, we might return because of the cheerful and helpful staff and incredible beaches and natural beauty of this island. Loved the ferry! "

We enjoyed being close to the pool/hot tub and were so pleased to find the gas grills. We cooked every meal but two on the grill. Thank you for the paper towels, coffee filters, and dish detergent. We bought sugar and salt and pepper in addition to other groceries. Couldn't tell if recycling was available. Lost an earring and couldn't find it. Loved the beach and views. Collected shells. Would have liked more organized tennis, but were there at a slow time. The Pro and courts were great."

"A great vacation
The entire stay was great however ther was a leak we quickly identified in the bathroom on the loft which would drain into the bathroom on the second floor. There was a noticable bulge in the ceiling which made me concerned everytime I took a shower (I stopped anyone from using the upstairs bathroom for the remainder of the stay) however when I called to have maintenance look at it he stated "it's not leaking anymore." When guests are paying for top tier facilities I think they should be able to fully utilize the facilities. This is my only negative comment, everything else was great! Travis and Jill at the front desk are an asset to your business!"

Beautiful secluded beach with frequent dolphin sitings, occasional manatee encounters and breathtaking sunsets! A must vacation for anyone needing to do nothing but bask in the sun and enjoy the sounds of waves and the occasional midnight shower! Oh, and if you want to be active, the tennis courts and pools are available, close and meticuously maintained. "

"We actually stayed one week. Unfortunately the 1st unit we stayed
in did not have a working stove/oven. We contacted management and were offered another, upgraded unit. We really did not want to have to move all of our belongings; fishing gear, wet beach towels, a refrigerator full of food, etc., we asked if the oven could be repaired. We were told the owner of the unit would have to be contacted and consulted. An "off island" appliance person arrived (he was not an oven repairman by trade)and found that switching the breaker on/off would allow the oven to start. We were willing to stay in the unit because dealing with the breaker was going to be easier than moving. Our excitement was short-lived when we discovered that the "breaker-fix" was no longer working. Each time we called the office we spoke with very apologetic, helpful personnel; unfortunately, due to their work schedules, the lines of communication were not clear. We eventually had to move. The unit we moved to was a very nice upgrade. The office even picked up dinner tab for us the first night we discovered that we couldn't cook a meal. The initial unit was not an "up-grade" and we were ok with that due to the close proximity to the beach. I have a long history with Palm Island Resort and was a little taken back by the initial unit. Just little things like: the contour sheet on the king bed had very little elastic left which left my husband and I in a pile of sheets each morning; the glass sliding door took two hands to pull open, the door-closer on the screen porch was partially unattached; the sofa was stained and really worn and the air-conditioner filter was filthy. Our first night in the unit both bedroom alarm clocks went off at midnight with the radio blasting; and the unit above us, which was vacant, had a radio that went off at midnight set on its highest volume. I called security and they turned off the music in the unit upstairs.

The furniture in our condo looked like it had been picked up at a thrift store. The couch was extremely uncomfortable and the beds were so uncomfortable, we had to take a tylenol to get through the night. If this is the only condo available next visit, we will vacation somewhere else. Palm Island is beautiful, but in order to truly relax, a comfortable condo is a must. The kitchen counter tops, pots and pans were disgusting and we had just enough silverware for one meal. Additionally, since 3 kitchen cabinets were locked there was no place for storing groceries, they had to be kept on the counter tops. The cost of our vacation was high and our expectations were high, we felt let down. We are repeat visitors,( 12 years in a row and this is the worst) and will start looking elsewhere if we are not more comfortable next visit."

This is old Florida so if you expect the Ritz Carlton, you are in the wrong place. But the Ritz won't have the sunsets and blue water this place has. "upgrade needed in unit 1311
we stayed in unit 1311. we were with a group of twelve people, so we had three different units. unit 1311 was clean but the decor of the unit and the condition of the furniture was lacking. there were hardwood floors that were in desparate need of refinishing and it looked like the unit had not been repainted since it was built. the two other units that we rented were beautiful. We did enjoy the two king beds in 1311 and that was really the reason we chose that particular one. Hopefully, the owner will be able to redecorate at some point. we had a fantastic time otherwise. this was my third trip to the resort and we will definately be coming back. I don't think I will choose unit 1311, as it is not up to par with the rest of the resort. "

"After all These Years......
We usually vacation at Palm Island 2 to 3 times a year. The beach is beautiful and private, the villas are comfortable in the "old Florida" style and sunsets are an event. After returning to Palm Island again (22 years this fall), as usual, Palm Island was wonderful.
On this visit, we noticed improvements at check-in, Rum Bay Restaurant, Coconuts and the Rum Bay Store. We would like to mention several staff members who made our stay enjoyable. Dustin was excellent as our server at Rum Bay. He is very professional. Andrea at Coconuts made us feel welcome, helped us with the cart rental and served the best ice cream. Sabrina has improved the store with a better selection of items for our stay there or to purchase for memories to take home. Dan from the Bell Stand took care of everything when picking up our luggage, taking us to the Reception Center and then loading our luggage in the car. He is always upbeat and helped make our leaving not as sad. Everyone in the Reception Center was helpful. At check-in, we received a large envelope with a map showing the location of our villa and inside the envelope, all the information we needed. Although we did not have a need for or see any of the Housekeeping Staff, our villa was clean and had all the supplies we wanted for our stay.
Palm Island continues to improve in every area not only the staff and the amenities but the landscape and rental villas. We hope to return in December."

"My favorite place!
I have been to Palm Island several times since 1995. I have recommended it to several church youth groups in the Orlando area and they have had a good experience. In recent years my daughters and I have made it a Mother's Day tradition to spend the weekend. We love the peace and tranquility of the resort. All we need is a beach chair and our umbrella! When I get back to finish out the school year I brag about our visit. You should have an increase in bookings within the next several weeks. I also heard a radio station mention a stay at PALM ISLAND as a prize last week. It seems that my SECRET PARADISE is no longer a secret anymore.
I'd like to see more discount offers especially for loyal customers and refferrals. As I said before, I've recommended the resort several times.
I hope that I can return for another weekend stay when my family can arrange their schedules!"

"Our Family Favorite
We have been vacationing at Palm Island for well over 10 years. Our kids looked forward to spending summers with Red Beard the Pirate and we loved the peace and tranquility of the Resort. Now our girls are teenagers and we still love to spend our family time together on the island.Everything about Palm Island is fabulous. It is a very hard act to follow.
