"Great place in a great location
Great place in a great location! Easy walk to the beach (4 minutes) and even to a couple of restaurants, yet tucked away from the loud noise of the main road. Best of both worlds. Also, the place itself is extremely clean and all amenities were above par. Beautiful kitchen too. Will be back!"

"Great Apartment
This is a very cute and clean apartment, a bit small for large parties but can easily fit 6-7 people. The kitchen equipment was fairly new. The check-in instructions were thorough and straightforward. I didn't need to contact the host. Thanks to the host, I enjoyed my trip very much! :) "

"Close To Everything
Great updated unit in Carnelian Woods. The only negative is the WIFI is weak. I needed to work remotely & ended up going to the library after trying everything to make a stronger connection. My fault for working on vacation. Everything else is wonderful about this unit. "

"Snow Trip 2021
First time staying at this rental. Overall we had a great time. We got lots of snow which was gorgeous. This specific unit is a bit of a walk from where you park your vehicle so be prepared for the distance. We did take our wagon which was very helpful. The unit was overall a nice unit. The pictures are a bit misleading. The living room area/dining is a bit cramped. We had 8 of us so the sofa and recliners did not fit us all so some of us sat at the dining table and/or bar area to watch tv. We did move the sofa so it was more comfortable when watching tv. The cable was a big problem not sure if it had to do with the weather but it kept spooling and freezing on us. Luckily we brought our fire stick. The fireplace is really nice and cozy however it kept turning off on us so we were constantly turning it on. Kitchen is very nice. Rooms were comfortable and bathrooms were nice. Overall nice experience just a few minor things but we had a great time."

"Stuffy and Outdated
The location and neighborhood was descent, but the amenities (pool, etc) were useless as they were really far away from any of the units. Also, the downstairs had good air circulation but the upstairs was really hot and they were no ceiling fans - just one dinky tower fan that did nothing. We asked for another fan during our stay but got the run around and ended up going out to buy our own. Overall the unit was just not nearly as nice as they make it out to be - very dated and small...also found mice dropping - so fun!"

"Wilderness Retreat
The condo was cozy and spacious. Exactly like the photos. About a block from the beach. We enjoyed the BBQ, full kitchen, fireplace, well-stocked game closet, and overall peaceful environment. Our visit was in late June so the days were warm with chilly evenings and mornings.
The Wilderness Retreat was very comfortable! Highly recommended."

"Best rental choice
The townhome that we rented for the week was great!! It was very comfortable for the family, and very nice. I will definitely book here again on our next vacation to Tahoe."

"A homey stay
We were 5 adults and 2 kids travelled together in mid Oct. The house was fantastic. It was clean, cozy and homey. The kitchen was fully equipped. The location is close to Tahoe city but it is still pretty quite (btw we were the only guests in the complex). "

"Carnelian Bay Wilderness Resort, North Lake Tahoe
We stayed the first week of July 2018 at the Carnelian Bay Wilderness Resort Area. We were so pleased with our visit, the condo was very clean and updated and just perfect. The location was amazing, within walking distances to the beach. The pool area was wonderful. The staff was so nice and the customer service was very professional and always available. There were so many activities for us as a family to do. I would definitely recommend this property. Our family enjoyed our time so much we are looking forward to coming back in the future. We had an amazing vacation!!"

"Comfortable Accomodations
The Condo had all the basics that you would expect (less A/C) and was a comfortable and cozy place for our family to gather, eat and rest from a full day of activities. The place is a little worn and needs a little refreshing. The beds were comfortable (we used them all) and the recliners comfortable. The pool and hot tub were an added blessing. All in all, it was not a bad option for us. We had an excellent vacation."

"Great vacation at Lake Tahoe!
My family of 5 stayed at the Wilderness Retreat for a 4 day vacation during August. It was a short walk to the pebble beach where we could rent kayaks and paddleboards. Very kid and dog friendly beach, although next time we will bring water shoes for the rocks. We had a great time playing Bocce at the rec center. It was so much fun we played it on two different days. This condo was a great location since it was only minutes away from Tahoe City, Truckee, Northstar and Squaw Valley. We ventured out every day and were amazed at how quickly we could experience an entirely different area of Lake Tahoe. Our entire family had a great time and we all agreed that we will be coming back next year! I highly recommend the condo due to its location, amenities and ease of renting. "

"Nice getaway
Great location and value. Enjoyed the amenities including the recreation center. Townhouse is well appointed. Maintenance was very responsive (there were some lights out). Only comment is it is a little darker than it appears, even with all the lights on. Still, great place. There are written instructions for everything, including TV, cable, etc... thank God!"

"Wilderness Retreat stay
The reservation process went smoothly. When we had minor car trouble driving to Tahoe and had to delay our arrival, First Accomodations was very helpful. The condo was exactly as advertised; it was very clean and everything worked as it should (which has not always been my experience with vacation rentals). The beds were comfortable with good quality linens. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook meals. The gas fireplace provided warmth when needed and there were fans to cool us down when it was too hot. The unit was well located, easy walking distance to beach, restaurants, and miniature golf.
I would recommend this unit to friends."

"Great Place to Stay
Visited from MA. My partner and I flew in and met my two kids and their boyfriend and girlfriend. Plenty of room for all and two baths was needed. We had our privacy downstairs while the kids were upstairs. We have stayed in theses condos a few times and really like the location and what they offer for the price. Baths had been updated but kitchen is due."

"a week and a half at Carnelian Woods #16
Pleasant (except for the (MICE) !!! and Trent had to come by and fix the TV before we were able to use it."
Aug 11, 2014 - Don G., South Pasadena, CA

"Unexpected and Unwelcomed Occupants when we Arrived
Arrived at the property in the evening and settled in after the drive. General condition was good but quickly discovered that there was a rodent problem. We had multiple field mice running across the floor of living room. Called Management and they set traps the next day. They said they came in because the door must have been left open by previous occupants. Over 3 days, kept seeing more mice and trapping them. It appeared that they had a nest in the laundry and or couch. Daughter and wife were stressed and could not relax in the unit. Family refused to eat in the unit because of the mice. Management made no effort to either move us or compensate us for the bad experience. This was our second time at this complex and I felt that management did not really care. Stated that it was part of the Tahoe experience!

I would have expected the management to at least compensate us for the poor condition and non-relaxing environment incurred."
Aug 06, 2014 - Jeanne K., SAN JOSE, California

"Avoid this Unit Until it's Rodent Free!
Our experience with this Carnelian Woods unit was simply unbearable! We discovered well into this 5 day stay that the unit was filled with mice! There is nothing quite like rodents to ruin a wonderful vacation; having them run across your head when you're trying to sleep no less. I only hope I can get my wife's scream out of my memory in the next couple of years. The property management team did their best to respond by setting traps; unfortunately, there weren't enough of them! My suggestion to them: this isn't the case of a guest leaving a door ajar in a forested environment; you have a serious mouse infestation problem--hire a better pest service and don't rent this unit until it's been cleared--do yourself a favor, if you think it's been cleared, spend the night at the unit and check it out for yourself; guests don't make good guinea pigs!"

"We were not disappointed
This condo is walking distance from the fabulous pool, sauna and spas as well as from the Lake. The unit itself is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The newly remodeled bathrooms are lovely and the showerheads are awesome. The kitchen isn't gourmet, but it is fully stocked with more pots and pans, dishware, cutlery and glassware than you need. The dishwasher is excellent and the fridge is immaculate. We would return. Very well priced."
Jul 24, 2011 - , Sebastopol, CA

"July 2011 vacation stay
First the positive. Very well painted and decorated. So enjoyed the beautiful art work! Love the bath improvements.
Negative would be, very dark and sort of depressing as a result. There's prob not a lot you can do about that, however that was the down side for us.
Overall, we had a great time."
Jul 19, 2011 - Tom F., Pacifica, CA

"Like a cheap cheap motel!
Dishes were full of soap scum as dishwasher doesnt work. Kitchen poorly stocked, pots and pans burned, digusting! Bed are old old old, ALL of them no one got a restful night. Downstair bedroom floor is no even, doesnt work with bad knees! Towels are small and cheap, fell just like sandpaper. Kitchen towels are so worn they are to thin to be useful. We left after 2-1/2 days of our 4, everyone just want a good bed to sleep in, we were all exhausted! It is a poor lay out for six adults couldnt even think about the 8 they have listed. Swimming pool area was very nice. If you want cheap this is your place, if you want a restful and relaxing time look elsewhere."
Jul 14, 2011 - Kathy N., Stockton, CA

"Nice property
The only concern about this lovely property was the snow maintenance in the parking and driveway area. Snow removal was not good at all, and our car, with snow chains, got stuck trying to enter the street where the condo was located. Later, we were afraid to park the car because the parking lot has a distinct slope to it and was covered in black ice. To add to the problem, the condo itself had no snow shovel, so we couldn't even dig out a parking space for ourselves. The condo is about 10 mi from the closest ski area, which is about a 30 min trek with chains on. This is probably a better place to stay in the summer. "
Feb 23, 2011 - Denise C., Pasadena, CA

"Rules rule.....
Re: Property Mgmt style and policies:
(1) Inflexible
(2) Dont understand cleaning policy and fee when guests do the work for them anyhow (note: we are a clean, organized family anyway; we could have been paid the cleaning fee ourselves ; all the cleaning crew had to do was vacuum, and do the bedsheets and place the towels; we did all the rest.
(2) Did not get the corrected key code (not in spam) via email- poor communications w/staff;

Re: location of the unit
Due to heavy snow, pathway not cleared; we had to haul our heavy luggage and provisions through a long pathway; beautiful w/ snow but quite inconvenient.

Pictures of unit/website
Deceptive. Unit smaller in reality than the wide angled pictures presented. But all kitchen needs there which helped with daily needs.

Miscellaneous:
(1) Towels very thin.... reminded of Motel 6 quality, rather than Marriott style, which other condos and vacation homes have provided.
(2) No power for about 3 hrs right about check out time... no calls from management to notify nor make concessions re: strict check out rules..
And last but not least:
NO WI-FI /INTERNET ACCESS- A DEFINITE NEGATIVE!

Positives:
(1) Fireplace much needed at end of day. Great area to hang around
(2) TV in upstairs bedroom a plus.
(3) Lots of closet space- helped tremendously in storing clothes.
(4)good water pressure

CONCLUSION: Will probably not recommend this property but might try other properties, but would appreciate a more flexible policy ."

The virtual tour of the property was deceiving. The living room and kitchen was very small. You can only fit 2 people in the kitchen at a time."

We've stayed at Carnelian Woods condos for over 30 summers. This unit was very nice. A little dark though, but when there are units on either side of you, it is tough to get more windows. Very nice unit otherwise."

"Amazing place and a great bargain!
We loved this place! The beds are comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need, the heating (in the winter) works like a charm, the place is spacious with plenty of room for your stay and it's really affordable. It's also close to all the North Tahoe ski resorts. The place is great and we definitely want to stay here again in the Winter and Summer. Thank you!"

"Family Friendly place to stay
Property a lot smaller than the pics look but the location and the lodge was great. Very family friendly place to stay. "

"Winter break 2009
Overall the place is nice, enough rooms to sleep 6 people. Here are just a few things I didn't like: the common areas (living, kitchen) are a little small for 5 or more people.
The beds were not very comfortable (too soft and worn out, kept rolling into the center).
I loved the remodeled bathrooms.
It would also be nice if the driveway to the parking lots were kept ice free, not everybody has a four wheel drive!"

We were very happy with unit 16. It was very clean, nice bathrooms, comfortable beds. The only problem was the living room area was a bit small for 8 people. We were definately rent unit 16 again. "
