Once or twice in a lifetime…
You find a place so special that it changes the way you feel about life. The Reef House in Cerro Gordo is one of those places. We often hear from people that have spent vacations in Cerro Gordo and it’s always the same story, “one of the most memorable times in our lives”. They keep coming back as often as they can. The Reef House is located in one of its most pristine and private areas. It sits at the end of the main road in the small fishing village. Beyond the home are several miles of unspoiled beaches with hardly a person to be seen. Reefs along the shoreline have created natural swimming pools where both kids and adults can swim, snorkel, sunbathe or walk and hunt for seashells.
Luxury awaits you at The Reef House, this beautiful contemporary 4 bedroom 3 1/2 bath home has a 180 degree view of the ocean. You are literally on the beach, open the gate and feel the warm sand between your toes. The house has been completely remodeled. The entire north side of the house is a wall of glass windows and doors that will make you feel like you are outside. An open floor plan has the large modern kitchen, dining room and living room on one floor so its great for entertainment.
There are two master bedrooms as they both have their own private bathrooms. The other two bedrooms a shared bathroom. Three bedrooms have balconies and ocean view. The other is poolside and also has a mini fridge and coffee maker. Each room has a queen bed except one of the master bedrooms which has a king size bed. All rooms are air conditioned and have TVs. Of course high speed internet and Dish TV are available and included. The laundry room is air conditioned and has both a washer and a dryer
The front balcony has stunning views of Cerro Gordo and faces the pool. The salt water pool is L shaped with one side 12” deep for children to swim safely and adults to sit in the pool to have a drink and catch a few rays. The other side is deep enough to swim or just stand and chat with family and friends. There is also a private outdoor shower with hot water where you can bathe while watching the stars. Many more surprises await you at The Reef House.
If you are looking for the cultural experience in Puerto Rico, The Reef House is a great place to start. There are two local restaurants with great food within a 5 minute walk. A three minute walk will bring you to the “balneario” or “public beach” which is part of the state park system. The park has one of PR’s best mountain bike trails, you can also walk the trails or swim at the beach. The beach is protected by a large cliff so it is very safe to swim, dive or snorkel in the clear calm waters. The new Ritz-Carlton Reserve is 5 minutes away, there you will find fine dining in several of it’s restaurants, not to mention golfing in any of its three courses. The town of Dorado is located a short and beautiful 10 min drive away where you will find many great restaurants, shopping and doctors. Pretty much anything you might need, so venturing far away is not necessary unless you want to immerse yourself in the culture of course. Incredible sights await you, Old San Juan with its beautiful cobble stone streets, beautiful historic buildings dating back over 500 year,s or the incredibly dramatic Spanish fortresses of San Felipe del Morro and San Cristobal. El Yunque, a national rain forest with amazing waterfalls and views. Travel west about an hour and visit Rincón, PR’s best known surfing beach and a Mecca for expats. Continue south west an you will find Cabo Rojo with great estuaries and calm waters. Travel inland and you will find beautiful vistas and many excellent restaurants. In short, there is something for everyone. However if you just want to relax, decompress and soak up the sun, you will just love the Reef House.

Things To Do:Cerro Gordo was a fishing village and still maintains some of that charm with a couple of local restaurants and bars you can go to and mingle with the local folks. There is a public beach
(Balneario de Cerro Gordo) where the water is very calm and you can swim or snorkle. There is a camping area that although badly damaged during the hurricane is recovering nicely. It has mountain biking trails which you can hike. There are amazing cliffs with hidden coves you can explore. The house is a 10 minute car drive to Dorado (Puerto Rico's Paradise), a town with everything you might need, Doctors, CVS, Walgreens, super markets (that deliver to the house), banks, restaurants (fine dining, fast food or casual) such as inside the Four Seasons Reserve. There are also the usual suspects, Wendy's, Chili's, Popeye's Chicken, BK and such. Also sushi, Italian, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Mexican, hamburger joints, bars etc. etc. Car rental agency is also available in Dorado (Vias car rental) Catch a ferry ride from the town of Cataño (30 minutes away) and you can be in Old San Juan in a skip and a hop. The airport is 40 minutes away unless you catch rush hour, then I would give myself 1 hour, just in case.
