It was good. It’s an older house and the kitchen did have ants. I would say some of the kitchen items need replacing like the glass wear and pans. Views were incredible. A few more towels would have been great . The sign for the heat says keep at 64 but the house was so cold we had to turn it up. The weather was cold during our stay. Property management was awesome!"

"Spacious with Gorgeous View
We stayed at this lovely home with our son and his girlfriend. The location was perfect on a quiet street and within walking distance to the grocery store, many restaurants, and the beach. The beds and furniture were super comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed the wood burning stove, decks with gorgeous views of the harbor, and spacious feel of the home. My son and his girlfriend enjoyed the privacy of the downstairs bedroom and we enjoyed the large upstairs suite. The pool table in the garage was an added bonus. We look forward to staying here again."

We had a lovely time and the view never got tiresome. We stayed a weekend during a huge storm. The house is very comfortable, as are the beds. Pelican’s Nest is a perfect place for a relaxing vacation. The home is beautiful and decorated with beautiful things, plants and pictures. The home was spotless. We loved every inch of the home and the ocean views are spectacular from the living area and the master bedroom. Our dog loved the deck and running around the house. Our 8 year old granddaughter was enamored with the home and the ping pong table etc. Said it was the best place she had been to. Can walk to the store and lovely shops in town and walking to the beach is very close. Great restaurants In town and a close drive to Arcata which is a fun place. I would certainly recommend this home."

"Dog Friendly Getaway
We were looking for a dog friendly getaway out of the triple digits and definitely found that here. Plenty of Dog trials and beaches, Arcata Community forest was great. This home's views can't be beat and I love the location. The home was clean but I do think they would benefit from changing some of the decor that could be dusted bc some there were items pretty covered (seen in previous review). My husband was not fond of the giant plant hanging over his side of the bed but he got over it. Windowsills could use a vacuum of dead bugs. Screens on sliders were pushed out but we notified manager. The bed was very comfortable but creaky when getting up during the night but didn't bother us. Kitchen was very clean and well stocked although we ate out most of the time. The stairs may be steep to some. i think they would benefit from removing the existing area rugs as they were stained and our dogs were dog odors though or hair anywhere so if they changed these out to something that could be laundered might be better. Bedding was great (I looked for tag I liked them so much) couches were comfortable. Plenty of hot water- although the double shower curtain was weird. Maybe a tension rod inside of the window would be better option. There is no back yard and very little grass in front yard. We had asked about this prior to renting and was under thr impression there was a front yard (most is sea grass and bushes). It wasn't as much of a issue though bc you can walk dogs right down the street to grassy area along the street/lighthouse cliffs. This is a nice house in a very quiet location that with some updating and simplifying decor would be amazing. While the price was alittle steep we realize your paying for the view. It's a great dog rental and I would rent it again. "

We rented this amazing home, property for the move out of our son from College, Humboldt State University. We wanted something special for our last time, presumably, and we picked the perfect place! Views of the ocean from every room, including the bathtub! Well appointed, comfortable, fantastic, safe, quiet neighborhood, don't hesitate, this place is wonderful. It's also clean, and so homey!!"

It was a great location and fantastic views. The view from the upstairs room would be difficult to beat. The hike to the beach was not too bad as we are younger and enjoyed the exercise, it may be a difficult trek for someone with mobility issues. The house had everything we needed as far as kitchen and bathroom supplies. My only complaints - there were ants in the kitchen and the home was not very clean, there was a lot of clutter that added to the lack of cleanliness. The ice maker, furnace, lights and outlets did not work. "

It's not easy finding a pet friendly rental, let alone one with an amazing view. We couldn't have been happier with this charming cottage. It's right in town, but off the main streets, so there was no traffic or noise. The house had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the short walk down to the beautiful beach below and got our cardio on the walk back up. This is definitely a great place for a relaxing getaway!"

"Blue water, fresh air
This was a house with a beautiful view, great decking, hard wood floors, great heating and plenty of glasses, plates and silverware .
But, renter beware: if you suffer from allergies this is not the house for you. Every wall, every surface is covered with “stuff”...which is dusty. There were also overgrown huge and half dead plants: 2 shoved into corners on the first floor and a huge one hanging over the bed on the second floor. Truly ugly and great allergy triggers ! Also there is an upside down rowboat hanging directly over that second floor bed. Huh? More dust! Also all the fabrics were old and overused. It is basically a beautiful space but it would be better cleared out and simplified. I don’t know if the owners still live there but I think they would do well to decide if they’re going to live in it or have a vacation rental. It wasn’t inexpensive and the view, although magnificent, the mood of the place was pretty confusing.

"Relaxing Escape
This home is all about location and view. Not to mention being dog friendly. We wanted a relaxing escape and to be able to have that ocean view and proximity to the beach and hikes -- which we got. We enjoyed our stay and made the most of it. Walks to the bay, around Trinidad Head, and to the amazing view at Megwil Point. We got take out from Larrupin' restaurant, coffee from the Beachcomber, and made some purchases at the Trinidad art gallery. And drove into Arcata to Wildberries Market and Los Bagels for more.
The house itself needs some TLC. It's funky and a tad dated and looked like it hadn't had the full spring or fall cleaning yet. The basics were taken care of (surfaces, bathrooms, bedding) of course. The minimal yard and curb appeal, as well as aspects of the decor, kitchen and lighting, leave a bit to be desired, but you may be willing to overlook that once you get inside and see the expansive view from the living room and the upstairs master bedroom. You can be comfortable here and make the most of the location -- if you don't get too hung up the details of the house itself.
The owners might consider a thorough refresh if they are willing. And that would create an even stronger appeal and warrant the rental price of the home. Because of the location and view, the overnight stay price is on the higher side, but the house amenities should better match the price point. Worth visiting, just sharing observations to manage expectations for future guests. I would recommend to others but with these details."

We loved staying in Trinidad and this house was in the perfect location to walk or bike around town. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable, the decorating was very cute and beach appropriate. We liked the pathway around where we took pictures and picked blackberries. The only disappointment was that the shower in the master did not work so 4 people had to share a shower. We would DEFINITELY stay here again."

We love this location, and most of all we love the cleanest kitchen ever! But, we found out 3 weeks before (after all payments made) that replacing the floors would "probably" be completed the morning of our arrival. That was not respectful of our plans, and I said as much. Also, can you please do something about the mold on the leaves of the huge Schefflera upstairs? One of our guests had a really difficult time breathing the next morning. Finally, I left a message for the caretakers that the upstairs shower leaks right into the living room. That may be part of the floor problem. Hope that helped you find the root cause. "

Beautiful home with an outstanding view!! Unfortunately while we paid for it as a 2 bathroom home it only had one functioning bathroom. The managers told us they were aware of the issues and thought they had been fixed. We were not offered a refund of any of the substantial fee. I recommend the house but NOT the management service. We had very specifically wanted a2 bath house and did not get what we paid for."

"A perfect vacation at Pelican's Nest
We booked the house (Pelican's Nest) because of the proximity to the redwood forest. We struck gold with this house because the town of Trinidad was a perfect little town. The house was within close distances to multiple beaches and fun littl local restaurants. The house itself was very charming. The view from the back porch was amazing. The master bedroom has its own balcony as well. There is nothing better than falling asleep (or waking up) to the gentle sound of waves crashing on the beach. i would definitely recommend this house for beach exploring or redwood forest adventures!!!"

"Just what we needed!
Jonna from VRBO was great! We were looking for some specific features due to one guests physical restrictions and Jonna stuck with me through all the questions and sorting options. The house we ended up with, Pelican's Nest worked well. FYI for anyone looking for accessible, this home is good for mobility impaired but is not W/C accessible. The door on the main floor bathrm is too narrow for a walker or W/C, but otherwise great main floor living and bedrm for wheeled walkers. Upstairs retreat (bedroom and bath) was wonderful. Spectacular views on both levels and COMFY beds could have stayed in bed storm watching all day! Access to beach, and the village was so easy.
TV's are a subpar for the rest of this home, get program schedules at .
Lighting is limited, too dim to use the dining table for games after the sunset, but hope they improve that.
Wi-Fi was good, easy log in and supported Roku and 2 devices easily.
Wood stove was stocked up, we did not light it, but nice to see it useable!
The kitchen was amazingly equipped. If you want to cook, then it seems like everything you could want is here! Take the time to look in every cabinet for supplies before buying. The home was super clean and nicely decorated. Lots of books & games, the pool cues were worn out so no pool play.
Murphy's Market & Deli market had everything we needed for at home use, but we ate out often. The Seascape Restaurant, Trinidad Bay Eatery & Gallery were great, friendly staff and good food, able to accommodate special diet request with a smile. The Lighthouse Grill was okay, not as friendly and the fried foods were greasier than most. The shops were fun and the staff was so helpful. The beaches and scenic drives were awesome. Watch for wash outs this time of year.
One more plug for the comfortable beds, tempur-pedic mattresses were nice to find! Lots of pillow choices and extra throws and blankets were available. "

"Lovely location...but pee stench was unfortunate
We loved the quirky home, and the best part was the beach below, and we enjoyed being together. However, there were a few minor inconveniences and one really big one that made me question why this place had so many wonderful reviews. The living area, especially if you got on the floor to stretch or do yoga, had a horrendous, nauseating dog pee stench. We couldn't figure out if it was the rug, the wood, or the couches, and so couldn't really mitigate the problem. So we stayed away from the couches which meant we had very uncomfortable chairs to sit in and stare at the ocean, the main objective of renting this house. There was a strand of lights in which 10 of 20 bulbs were out which made the aesthetics less than anticipated. The beds were super comfy, but water pressure and temps pretty bad. Basically, we had chosen a house with a wood floor thinking stretching and yoga with an ocean view would be lovely, but the stench made this impossible. However the house really is nice other than that, and the manager was nice enough to let me in an hour early."

"Beautiful location house and great for dog owners
We loved the location and just a few mintues walking through wooded path to a gorgeous sunny beach! Lounge chairs in the main deck in particular would be a big plus. That was the main miss in this house! Nothing decent to sit on in the main deck. The table and chairs on the main deck was very very old and dirty and should be recycled or trashed. It was unusable. I would highly recommend it for those with dogs but those w/o dogs could probably find a better house for the price. The house is on the small size, perhaps 1,000 sp ft but the 3 of us found in cozy. 2nd bedroom does not have any view. Master bedroom's view is what's showon on the photo. We discovered a pool table in the garage and a washer and dryer, which was nice! The views were spectacular. You can walk to the lighthouse cafe and the beachcomber restaurant in less than 7 mins, and that is a huge big plus too! Great location. The house's furniture is kind of funky and many things do not match, but I'm o.k. w/ that if my dogs can be there! Lots of excellent books though although I found a "how to have sex in the office" inappropriate book that was probably not meant to be among the shelves in the batchroom where there are many children's toys. "

"Enjoyed the View
This house was great for our family of four! The view was just beautiful! The walk down to the beach was fun for my girls, and everything in town is within walking distance. My husband and I could not get over how quiet the setting was here. We heard only one siren, no traffic noise, I don't even think we heard an airplane overhead!! Just the sounds of the water down below, and the bell of the buoy. Beds were comfy, everyone slept well. We all agreed, we'd stay again."

"A Beautiful house on the hill
This place rules! It's an asy walk down to the little beach with tide pools and rocks to climb on. Lots of bananna slugs on the way! Amazing views and everything is within walking distance. Hike around Trinidad head, go shopping in the little town, get breakfast down at the pier, it's all good. House is well stocked and has a pool table in the garage. Very cool! "

"Best Vacation Ever!
Our stay at the Pelican's Nest has been the most wonderful experience. The location is amazing and although there are many different things to do in the area, our favorite was just enjoying the house. My 10 year old said it was better than Disneyland! The kids were so busy playing with puzzles, reading books and playing in the loft area that Daddy got to enjoy a nap and Mommy had time to read a whole book. The home is very thoughtfully stocked with books and throw blankets to enjoy. The kitchen is well stocked with necessities and the grocery store is a 10 minute walk away. The beds were very comfortable and the view from both floors is unparalleled. My family and I look forward to returning."

Lovely house! Views were even better than we expected from the photos. My husband and I stayed in Pelicans Nest along with my parents, who have some mobility issues. It was great that they could stay on the first floor and not have to deal with stairs at all, while we enjoyed the spacious and comfortable upstairs suite. It's a nice quiet neighborhood and Trinidad is a perfect home base for exploring the redwood coast. I recommend the hike up Trinidad Head and a kayak tour of the harbor. Would definitely stay here again. "

"Great Location but House Needs Upgrades
This place is all about the location. It's right above the beach, with an access trail that goes straight down to the shore.
Positives: Parking was a breeze. The master bed was comfortable. The house had good heating. There was a great dining table that we didn't use.
Negatives: While the house's decor has a lot of charm, it needs some serious TLC and upgrades. The kitchen is a museum of outdated equipment and dishware. The lighting is either bright fluorescent or subtle lamps. There is no comfortable way to wind down and watch TV after a long day, and the TV itself was difficult to use and too small for the space. Even the pool table was missing balls and lopsided.
Lastly, there was an ant problem in the kitchen, though the house in general was clean."

So many interesting books to read!Spotlessly clean. Close to everything! We went on so many great hikes! We were happy we could bring our dog too. A very positive experience. Thanks so much! We would definitely stay here again. To be expected a few worn furniture items and the pool table needed a little repair. But it rated a grade of "A" in our opinion! "Beautiful Location House Needs Repair
The location is wonderful, beautiful view and very quiet. The beds were very comfortable. If you like books, there are plenty. On the flip side, the house has some wood rot issues and smells very musty. The downstairs bedroom advertised as "cozy" is dark, cold, with a sour smell and is right by the front door and garage entry. The upstairs bedroom is lovely, but the bathroom is difficult to use, especially for a woman trying to put on cosmetics (tiny little mirrors and no counter space at sink). I ended up using the small downstairs bathroom that had a normal sink/counter and shower and had to drag things up and down the stairs. We brought a pot and pan based on previous review and were glad - for the price being charged a decent set of stainless steel pots is needed. Also, the glasses all had lip marks on them, so I felt compelled to wash everything before I used it - not so great for conserving water. The private trail to the beach was closed, but no sign until halfway down the trail, so we had to hike back up and over to the light house to gain access. Would be nice to let guests know this. The Redwoods are enchanting, Patrick's Point State Park is a must see, and check out the local grocery before you go elsewhere, they are great and may have everything you need."

The location of this house was ideal. You really can't get any better! The home was clean but due to it being older there was a musty smell upstairs and definitely a slight smell of dog which you should expect with a pet friendly home. We left the doors/windows open at all times to smell the ocean. The home was cleaned well but because it is well worn it doesn't feel sparkling clean. And, having a Murphy bed in the bathroom is a bit odd but I'm OK with a funky beach home. Character is good. I wouldn't rule out staying here again. It was comfortable enough. The rental agency was great. And, again, you can't beat the location! We had a great weekend."

"Beautiful home on the ocean
My husband and I, and our two dogs stayed at this beautiful house just recently. We loved everything about it! The view off the back deck was glorious and the house was simply wonderful. We walked through town with our dogs and everyone was so friendly. Just a wonderful experience all around. We drove down to the redwoods and they were as beautiful and amazing as we had remembered them! The only thing we did have to do was fill up the propane bottle for the bbq, as it was empty. We had bbq almost every night we were there. Had a wonderful anniversary trip!!"

We come to Trinidad often and stay 7 - 10 days. We love this small seaside town for its quiet and natural pleasures -- walking on the beaches, hiking in the Redwoods, watching the sunsets over the beach.
We chose this specific property for its "dog-friendliness". However, we did not bring the dog after all.
Pros about this property: quiet and private location, great views of the harbor; nice size rooms; large kitchen.
Cons: several appliances did not work, including wall clocks, instant hot water tap, trash compactor; spotty lighting with no ceiling lights; lots of pots and pans but in questionable condition (e.g. corroded teflon); upstairs bathroom funky and inconvenient.

From the moment we got here our stay was fantastic. The house was bright sunny and clean. Bedrooms (and beds) were very comfortable. Location is the best and the views were amazing! Walking distance to everything in Trinidad, and a short drive to Arcata. We didn't use the fireplace because there was only one log and no kindling. Also bring coffee and tea (I left some for the next visitor (you're welcome). If you've been accustomed to a welcome basket, there won't be one, other than doggy treats, so don't be disappointed. Other than that the accommodations were very nice and the location is the best Thanks and we hope to stay here again in the near future!"

We actually added a night to our stay, we loved it so much. The staff made it happen quickly - impressed and very happy! The rental was just as it is pictured and described. The only thing I would wish for is comfortable chairs to sit out on the deck. The ones there now are not for sitting and relaxing. The town is easily walkable, a couple of restaurants within walking distance, and a beautiful path along the cliff to the pier or down to the beach below. And, an easy drive to the National and State parks, kayaking, microbrewpubs, etc."

Nice home in Trinidad easy walk to everything. Big kitchen, well equipped, very comfy master bed. Sunny patio. My only complaint was the TVs. Master TV was so tiny it was useless and the position of the living room TV to furniture was so unworkable we had to rearrange furniture to watch. Also the cable/sat was not working properly and had to have mgt. come fix it. But that was exceptionally prompt and he was very nice. Overall it was a good property. Hot tub would have made it much better. "

"The view from the Nest
We love this place for many reasons. First, it takes dogs-we vacuumed daily to help keep the hair down like we do at home and that is a small price to pay to be with them. The Redwood National and State Parks area is our favorite place on earth. We deeply love the redwoods and the elk. We come there a few times every year. It feels like home. Trinidad is where we always stay, and this property was the most beautiful, wonderful place we have ever stayed. It was perfect. The view and sound of the waves and seals was extraordinary, and the property itself is gorgeous, comfortable, and welcoming. We especially loved the deck, the kitchen, the Tempurpedic beds, the awesome selection of books, and the ping pong table. The location is also perfect, with easy access to Indian Beach as well as our beloved Beachcomber Café (you've got to try the scones). If only we could live there year round. It is paradise. We will be back! "

My husband and I, along with ChiChi the Chihuahua, stayed for four nights in mid October. The home was very welcoming and comfortable, with lots of interesting knick-knacks and hundreds of books lining the walls. All our needs -- from towels and toiletries to plates and cookware -- were met. The hosts even provided treats and waste bags for ChiChi. Trinidad offers outstanding views of the coastline, and this home is the ideal place to enjoy them. Huge sliding glass windows upstairs and downstairs let in the warm ocean air. When the squalls rolled in, we storm watched from the cozy chairs. A trail right out the door led down to a sandy almost-private beach. When you visit, don't forget to stop by Katy's for some smoked fish! "

The house in two blocks from the lighthouse and walking distance to the beach, a nice view of the cove/ocean. Unfortunately, when you walk into the house you are overwhelmed w the smell of dog & mold. Yes I know it's a pet friendly house but not everyone who rents here are brining one. The odor in the downstairs bedroom was so bad I slept on couch/livingroom for 3 nights.
The home is furnished with a mish mosh of unmatching garage sale chairs, couch, love seats and over ten book cases filled with hundreds of books. Our towels smelled like mold/dog we had to go buy detergent and wash them. There was a lot of things broken, not working, ants in the kitchen. DO NOT GO IN THE GARAGE... It's a junk yard. This property could be fabulous if it was treated like a vacation home that was being sold to travelers instead of " come stay at our house" "

We loved this place. Every night we dined on the deck with a gorgeous view and every morning walked down to the beach and watched the sea lions. All this in a walkable tiny town with not much more than a food store, coffee/breakfast place, seafood restaurant, art gallery and wine tasting. There is also a great hiking trail. Trinidad Retreats took care of us again (this is our 4th house rented through them) when our son got a severe ear infection while on vacation in Trinidad and we had to delay our flight home by two days. They quickly found us another home to stay in and we were lucky enough to land in Pelican's Nest for the last 2 nights of our stay. The view is nothing short of breath-taking. The location is great - walking distance from the Eatery and a nice trail down to the beach for excellent tidepooling. The house is very unique, older with lots of character. Clean and well kept. I would warn those with small children that there are alot of beautiful & fragile knick knacks throughout the home to pay attention that your children don't touch. There is however a magical "secret room" for young children to play in and my two boys had a blast climing up the ladder and playing with the toys hidden up there. A lovely stay for sure!"

ideal location, awesome view, comfortable beds and chairs-though you will probably want to move some of the chairs, nice well equipped kitchen, overall we enjoyed the house and stay.
problems- sand/dirt on the floor in several areas(not a biggie given location/use) upstairs toilet doesn't function well, upstairs gas fireplace was non functional, had a massive leak of dishwater in the kitchen one night, pool table was tucked away which means we had to move chairs and drag it out-and of course reverse the proc on leaving(not as bad as it might sound but still a chore), no laundry soap for washer(we left a bottle there),and there could be a little more light over the main(&only)large table-were we eat and play cards at at nite.
as u can tell none of these problems are show stoppers, just annoyances that take a little bit away from overall enjoyment. think my star ratings give my overall opinion best.
it is expensive, I think it could be a little cheaper for good value but I would still recc it to anybody.

"Awesome Property!
Great entertaining home with breath-taking view and the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep. Pictures don't do it justice. The home is larger than it looks in the pics. The upstairs master bedroom and bathroom with it's own private deck is huge and includes a wet bar and small fridge. Small TV and DVD player up there too. Complete kitchen with lots of dishes and glassware, fully stocked, but some of the spices are old and some of the cookware hasn't been used for a while but everything worked fine. Large, newer fridge. Great open space downstairs and comfortable seating area with FM/CD player (bring your own CDs). Great selection of books in almost every room. The house feels lived in and lovingly appreciated by it's owners. Nice trail to beautiful Indian Beach with few visitors. Quiet neighborhood. Great restaurant at the end of the dock. Definitely would stay there, and look forward to it, again and again."

The location of the house was great and we had a wonderful time exploring the town and hiking in the area! The property appeared well used, needs a thorough cleaning in and out, and has some deferred maintenance. We'd gladly refer the property to friends if some of that were taken care of. That said, we loved the area and would come back again."

"Amazing View
You could stare out those big windows for hours just watching the tide. The feeling of space looking over the ocean, that vast expanse, was so completely satisfying it was easy to overlook anything amiss. We had a few hiccups during our stay but the T.R., in conjunction with the owners, were prompt to fix the problem and bought us breakfast for our trouble. The house has a lovely and eclectic library of books, a decent selection of cookware (although a bit dated), and a cozy wood stove. The furniture configuration in the main room is a bit odd: bunched in corners and simultaneously spacious, but we moved items to suit us. The upstairs room was much colder than the rest of the house and lacked any other mode of heating, but the view was so beautiful it was easy to get over it and in summer this wouldn't be a problem. The real downside for a group of four was, who gets the "master" suite? The room upstairs has that breathtaking ocean view while the room downstairs is rather cramped and located next to the garage. This really is a perfect getaway for couples or a family with older kids.
There is a great beach trail to Indian Beach, it's located right in town so we could walk around, and once again, the view the view the view!! "

"Thanksgiving in Trinidad
We had a wonderful stay. The house is amazing, and three adults and one toddler had plenty of roaming and sleeping room. The house withstood 114 mile-per-hour winds and we had a beautiful view when the storm cleared! We consider this place our Trinidad home."

"Bright
The house had issues. We were there for 2 weeks. There were no shades on some of the windows, and had privacy and sun wise issues. It was a beautiful view but just too bright with out shades to knock it down. TV too small for the room. Furnature hard to arrange to use the tv and have a view. Some of the house was blocked from us, and during a windy night there was a window open in that area, and there was a lot of racket going on. It needs some work for the price of it. "

"Clean, cozy with beautiful views
A quiet little town with amazing views of the pacific ocean. Our 3 & 5 year old children had a great time playing on the beach and building forts out of the driftwood. The walk down to the beach Is a little steep, which might be hard for elderly or anyone with balance troubles. I also would like to mention the master bedroom is upstairs separate from the second bedroom and main level. This adds privacy, but can be concerning for families with young children. Since our children could manage stairs well enough they ended up sleeping upstairs in the master BR and my husband and i forgoed the wonderful master BR views for our peace of mind at night that our kids were safely sleeping away from the front door. Another great extra was a small loft full of toys for the kids to play with. My kids really enjoyed this little space all their own. "
