"Nice studio,
Studio unit, at the rear of the property, overlooking Honokowai stream and Papakea resort. Pretty quiet during the day. It’s a good spot if you don’t like the noise from the pool area. Host was friendly and responded promptly to questions. I’d stay there again"

"We love Maui!
The room was comfortable although there was not a pull out couch. The evening we arrived there was a problem with water leaking so there were 3 maintenance people in and out of the unit while we were in our pajamas trying to get some rest after a long travel day. The coffee was nice but no coffee filters. We also thought there was in suite laundry as we were told about the 30 gallon water tank so to consider this while showering and doing laundry. All in all we still enjoyed our visit and love Kaanapali Shores!"

"It was okay
Who is definitely clean but a little rundown. Lots of dings on the furniture and looks like it hasn’t been updated for a decade or more. There are multiple posts about the “screaming toilet”. It is ridiculously loud, and I would think after so many guests have complained about it disrupting their sleep, you would’ve replaced the toilet by now. That’s a pretty simple (and inexpensive) repair. The only other thing I would say is that the condo REALLY needs a dresser. There is a large audio/visual cabinet in the corner under a wall-mounted TV. That cabinet could easily be swapped out for a 4-drawer dresser (or a cabinet that has shelving and drawers). That simple change (and a normal toilet) would have made the stay so much more pleasant. "

"Wonderful Resort, Suite needs some TLC
We really enjoyed the Kaanapali Shores Resort. Lovely grounds, well run and excellent entertainment. It was nice to have the Beach Club Restaurant and Bar on the property. Liked the shops at the resort. It was very close to a grocery store and food trucks, restaurants and shops. We have had a VRBO Suite that we rented out in the past so we have a good idea of what guests like. The overall condition of the suite was okay but the laminate flooring in the living room was in really rough shape. Replacing that floor would be a good idea. The curtains are also in rough shape. The sliding door screens are falling apart. The patio doors really rattled when there when it was windy. The bed and pillows were comfortable which is very important. The light panels in the bathroom were dirty and the bathroom light by the sink did always work. The toilet moaned when flushed so that was a problem in the middle of the night. The furnishings like the couch and chairs were fine. Some of the pictures on the walls were not centered over the furnishing. That is not a big thing except I am an artist so it bothered me. If the suite was painted an lighter shade it would be more inviting. The window in the kitchen did not have a shade so the light bothered us in the early morning hours. The location of the suite in the complex was not the best being on close the the parking lot of the next resort. Car alarms were going off at all hours. Directly below the suite was the complex maintenance area so delivery trucks where coming and going. The railing were been replaced on that side of the complex so the jack hammers were noisy. The property was relatively clean but not as clean as I would like it. We did like the fact that the suite had a blender and the kitchen was well equiped. It would be nice it there was a spatula. A metal flipper for the BBQ would be nice. The property management company was good. We wouldn't recommend this suite to a friend mainly due to the noise factor."

"Good value, nice stay
Our family of 4 stayed for just under a week and enjoyed our stay. The unit is at the end of the building so it was quiet and felt private. Balcony overlooks a canal that wasn’t the prettiest but it was nice to sit out with a coffee in the morning. The room itself was ok, our bed didn’t have a headboard which felt strange and the sofa could use a deep clean. Kitchen had everything we needed and bathroom was ok. There was a small cooler which was nice to bring to the beach and pool.
There was unfortunately some work in the lobby during our stay so there was plywood covering the the whole view to the back garden and had to walk through scaffolding to get to the pool area. We enjoyed the pool, nice and clean and wasn’t too crowded. No bar service at the scenic pool but the restaurant overlooked the other rectangle plain pool. There is a small coffee shop in the lobby and a small shopping arcade. The grocery across the street was very convenient. "

"Value oriented room
I didn't realize the view, I thought I could see the ocean, but when I went back to the pics, I realized I got the view I paid for.
The place wasn't the cleanest, lots of dust on the walls, broken shower light exposing pipes, dishes needed to be rewashed. The host ensured they use a professional cleaner, but I think they may need a new one. If you have kids I would not recommend this size room. Its better for 2 adults only.
There was no dresser or anything to put clothes in so we lived out of the suitcase the entire week (4 of us).
There is no towel service, so you have to use pool towels for your showers.
We had some issues with the iron, it ruined a shirt, but they were prompt in replacing us with a new one.
The hotel will not allow you to use the luggage cart or dvd rental bc you book through a private host rather than using them directly.
Overall, I probably would not stay here again but if you are on a budget this is a good choice.
The pools were great and beach access was perfect. Very good location as well. Theres an on site restaurant, shops and spa on the grounds as well."

The owners were very helpful and the rental was clean and nice fir the price. It’s a little further from the pool and ocean than the more expensive condos, but we still enjoyed the pool and the ocean the same as everyone else, just for probably significantly less money. "

This property was nice for a couple, but it was small for two adults and two kids and had no dresser for clothes. It's dated and needs a few improvements. Upon arrival, one of the ceiling tiles in the bathroom was broken on the floor, exposing the pipes overhead; however, this was quickly fixed. I also emailed/texted about ants in the condo but never received a response. There was mold/mildew on the shower curtain and on the underside of the foldout beds mattress. That being said, the grounds of the property were lovely. A great place to unwind after being out and about all day: the kids loved the pool, and having a couple of stores downstairs was very nice. It is located within walking distance of a great coffee shop, many other small shops, and a park."

"This place needs work!
The property location is wonderful - nice pools, grounds, restaurant, etc. That said, the unit we stayed in is very dated and not as advertised. There is no view of the beach, rather a drainage ditch and this unit is at one end of the facility above the garage. Kitchen area was fine - bathroom was subpar at best, dirty ceiling tiles, dirty light panels, some evidence of water damage on the walls, etc. We were very disappointed in the unit itself.
Door lock battery quit working two days into our stay - the mgmt. team was prompt in fixing it and getting us into the unit. We showed them the areas that need to be fixed."

"Great value!
We loved our visit to Kaanapali Shores and have all positives to say about the owners and their organization and communication. The resort is really beautiful and we took advantage of both pools and the restaurant. We also appreciated the kitchen (which was well stocked) so we didn't have to keep going out to find meals every couple hours. We also loved having coin laundry in the building so we only had to pack half the clothes. The only teeny-tiny negative I have is the weather is often windy in Maui and at night the screen doors rattled a bit. If you have a small soundmaker, I would suggest packing that. Other than that, I have nothing but great things to say. I also really appreciated all the soap, paper towels, kleenex, ect. It was convenient to not have to buy those products. "

"Good Rental
We stayed here for our honeymoon. It was a bit windy & the sliding doors rattled so bad it kept us awake - they really need new weather stripping to hold them tight. The front door did not close unless you forced it shut, could be updated. The location on Maui was very central & we thought the unit itself was private being at the end of the hallway. The floors were not clean when we arrived but the rest of the place was. The kitchen could use a few more things like cups & scissors but overall it served the purpose we needed. There was also no bedspread on the bed, just a double layer of sheets. Would recommend but for the price it could be a little better overall."

"Just Adequate
The pictures make the studio look bigger than it is. Fixtures dated, though generally working ok. Anytime we have rented in Maui the units have basic convenience items for a day out such as small cooler, large water jug or at least something you can put ice in with water/drink. No extras, just very bare minimum. Only has two chairs for beach day outs. So you either have to buy items or do without. Dishes very sad and old looking, glasses ancient plastic, scratched and cloudy. Old coffee machine, must remember to turn off before leaving unit as no auto off. Sheets very old and thin. Balcony faces north, and looks out onto service area below so often beeping from trucks going in and out and backing up. At the very very farthest point to resort pool area. Cost only $6/day less than friends at a ground floor, one bedroom that was 20 ft from pool at Pappakea next door. Would not rent again, would pay more for a better location and be more organized and get my rental done before all the good units elsewhere are gone. Positives are that the actual Kaanapali Shores resort is clean and well managed. The resort restaurant had great food at decent value and very friendly staff. I also had the best haircut in a very long time at the beauty salon on the resort grounds."

Ocean view was marginal and bathtub room is dated. Too many folks involved in this rental process (travel agent - Red Awning - EPIC) as we did not get any instructions on condo access until last minute (we had to chase down). Next time may go with VRBO to make it simpler!"

"Maui Aston Kaanapali Beach
The following issues will prevent me from recommending your property to others. The general condition of our room was worn and lacked simple maintenance. The hardwood had extensive cigarette burns, the trim and walls needed fresh paint. The bathroom lacked simple things to assist vacationers at a beach site. The bathtub clothes line was broken, there were no hooks for hanging towels or bathing suites. I was shocked to see the 2x4 railing and torn covering material constructed around the roof of your buildings. While I understand the roof is not an area used by guests, it was a visible and obvious distraction from the otherwise beauty of the property when your outside using the pool or grill. This reflected a very unfinished condition to what was an otherwise beautiful outdoor decor and Hawaii environment. Additionally, the bellman refused to allow us to use the luggage cart, indicating he was not allowed to let the AIRBNB guests use the cart. This forced us to make multiple trips to the car to move our belongings into the room. On the positive side, the phone and email communication with property management staff was professional. Your location is great, with plenty of shopping and places to eat near by. Its well situated to the airport and many of the great places to visit in Maui. Overall, the room needed more frequent maintenance. I suggest replacing the hardwood with tile. I also recommend moving the room back the way it is shown in the attached photo as it seemed pretty cramped with the bed on the same side as the bar. The property owners need to replace the 2x4 and plastic railing on the roof."

"Honeymoon Perfect!
From research to departure, this was a turnkey operation. Support and communications when preparing were flawless. The room was everything we hoped it would be. We chose this over an all inclusive in order to give us the flexibility we wanted and were not disappointed. "Maui Kaanapali Shores 642
The condo we stayed in was a corner unit, with a view from afar of the water, it was quiet, beautiful and had everything but a washer and dryer. We loved our time and the two pools at the facility were great. Once we found the beach walk, that wound in front of some of the hotels and then through the park to the boardwalk area we were able to walk all the way down to the south to the Hyatt for the luau, comfortably (45 minute walk). "

"OK for the price
This condo is in a great location, and has a nice pool. Overall, the actual condo was sufficient. The tile grout on the floor needs a cleaning, the bathroom window and sliding doors make a noise with high winds, the bedding is very cheap, and pillow are not comfortable. The kitchen has everything that you would need to make food. The condo was a little tight in space, and the TV was positioned next to the bed, making it impossible to watch TV from the bed... But you do not come to Maui for the television. You can walk to shops and restaurants from the condo, and it is a short walk to the boardwalk. The beach right off of the hotel didn't have a lot of sand to lay out on, but there were awesome beaches a short walk down the boardwalk. The condo was about a 45 minutes from the airport. Overall, we liked the location, and the price made this condo a good option. "

Apartment was very clean except the floors needed a more thorough wash. Had all the utensils you needed. Only real complaint was that they need more towel bars in the bathroom to hang up wet towels and bathing suits. There is plenty of room in the bathroom to add more towel bars. Only other issue we had was that we expecting a lock box when, in fact, the passcode actually unlocked the door and the keys were inside the suite. Manager confused us by giving us lock box instructions. Overall, though, we enjoyed our stay in this suite."

"Never again
The room location is the worst. Wind whistles through the doors even when place to put our clothes except in the kitchen cabinets. Four bath towels for the week. No maid service. Lanie not inviting usually windy. Did not live up to description in any way, should have money refunded. Called Epic Realty but no help. If it was managed by Aston they would have moved us as the guest who stayed in 542 where. Found out all the rooms with 42 as in 642 are the worst. I will stay at the complex again but never in this room or any unless managed by Aston."

"Just Okay
The room had nice finishes but it was not clean. The beds and pillows are horrible. The view from the room was okay. I tried to check in through the front desk but they required us to get the lock box code to get in. We did, but the room was never cleaned and the towels and coffee were never replaced during our stay. The last day, the front desk told us we should have checked in for them to notify them to do cleaning service. Very unclear and frustrating! Overall the property is older but nice. There is sadly no beach..."

We could not get clean towels because there were no daily cleaning service involved and no explanation on what to do to get it.We used friend's service at different condo on the same flow to exchange for fresh towels."

"RENTER BEWARE!
Upon entering the unit it appeared to be decent but smaller than we expected. When we started unpacking our suitcases it became apparent how small it actually was. There was no place to put any of our clothes and shoes. There was no dresser with drawers so I had to put my folded clothes in a kitchen drawer. There was no possibility of hanging clothes as the closet was entirely jam packed with boogie boards, chairs, a porta-crib, vacuum, brooms and mops, leaning supplies, buckets and laundry basket and an ice chest. The safe in the closet did not have a key. The rental agent advised that we didn't need to use it anyway. We are not comfortable not having a safe for our valuables. The wind was whistling through the sliding door because it didn't seal properly. We decided that there was no way we could stay a entire week in there so we went booked another room in the same resort spending an additional $2100. If we were advised there was nowhere for our clothing and no 'working' safe, we would have never booked this room. The next day I called Stacy the rental agent and she was very rude. I asked if we could work something out, pro-rate, pay a couple of days rent and maybe a penalty. She said 'No, this is what you get...you get what you paid for....have a nice vacation' and hung up. I would never use Epic Realty again and at this point I would be very cautious about using Owner's Direct. "

"Almost Perfect
I loved the spot and how everything I would need I had right there. Only thing that bothered me which wasn't a big deal was there wasn't any space for hanging clothes. The closet by the bathroom is full and the one right by the bathroom as you walk in was locked. Not sure how you can change this due to space but all in all it was perfect and thanks for letting me stay and making it so easy to get in"

"LOVED OUR STAY
My partner and I really loved our stay at Kaanapali Shores. This is was our first time using HomeAway. The location was perfect to all the spots we wanted to check out. Property was clean and well maintained. We didn't get to use the pool because we were too busy checking out the beaches. I would definitely recommend this place to someone else. Our favorite part of our trip was Road to Hana."

"Nice, but could use a thorough cleaning.
The location of this resort is perfect. There is a store across the street, a fish market a couple blocks North, beaches within walking distance... no complaints on the location of this resort at all! We ultimately loved our trip and for the money, this unit is in decent condition. However, there are a couple things that would make it a little more comfortable. There are ants in the cupboards in the kitchen and around the bathtub. The shower curtain liner is mildewed (needs to be replaced). The kitchen cupboards and stove top need to be seriously cleaned. The bathroom needs to be updated, but I don't expect these updates for the price we paid to rent the unit. But the cleanliness is something to be expected no matter what. Overall, I was happy with my stay and was able to look past the downfalls due to the perfect location. "

"Lacks Ambience and location
If your looking tfor ambience this would not be the place to settle. The location is one where you can hear the trucks and maintenance crews just outside the balcony. Your oceanview is a sliver of the pacific from quite a distance. The entry to this unit is dismal and the unit needs some TLC. It is tired looking. In addition, you will not find any place to store your clothing or belongings as there are no dressing. The unit manager is very attentive make up for the mediocre accommodations. I recommend spending a little bit more to enjoy your holiday. "

"Mahalo Maui - fun time!
Rental experience was very satisfactory. The title on this review indicates $100 a night, which is not accurate. We were there in January and for 9 nights, it was $2,400. The rates apparently vary by season. Property Management company was great. We were given great instructions and they were in touch and very helpful and made our visit smooth. The property was clean and the kitchen and closet full of beach items was great. The resort staff was great! "

"Comfortable condo in a great location
We stayed here for four nights in October, which wasn't a super busy time. The condo was very comfortable with a king bed, couch, and stools at the counter for eating. We found the unit in clean, good condition and the check in/check out process was easy. The location was great - right across the street from a grocery store, and an amazing breakfast place (Slappy Cakes!). "

"Lulled to Sleep by trade Winds!
My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much. Our only constructive comments are as follows and are ultra picky so please remember as you read this we Had A Lovely Time and happy hour by the pool is something not to be missed!!
And the title of this review is so very accurate. The winds blow at this end of the island more consistently then in Kehei and at night you will love how pleasant the winds are for sleeping.
Constructive Comments:
1) A written description of the responsibilities that exist between the private rental and the Hotel. As we discovered the hotel has very little to do with the room set up including the phone. All the connections to the front desk e.t.c. are not hooked up. My only concern regarding this was safety. What to do/ who to call in an emergency. With whom lies the responsibility? I would suggest that any guest ask for the phone to be hooked up. I discovered this our last couple of days. All you have to do is ask the front desk and they set it up with a push of a button.
2) We did not know where to put the full garbage bags. Is there a garbage disposal we should use?
3) Is there an onsite laundry unit in the hotel?
Loved it and highly recommend staying in this unit.

"Good value studio unit
I rented a studio unit about 2 months before my vacation. It was the last one available in the complex so I wasn't sure what to expect though the pictures looked good. I was very pleased when I arrived. The unit was clean, comfortable and looked like the pictures. My only suggestion is that it was about time to replace or wash the shower curtain liner. Also, this unit doesn't really have much of a view. You can see the ocean a little in the distance over a building. I was more concerned with finding a place in the complex because I was traveling with a group than getting a unit with a view."

"One Month at Kaanapali Shores
My husband and I are recently retired and one of the first things we wanted to do was to go to Maui and live for a month, without the tourist experience. This vacation was perfect for what we wanted. For the most part we were very satisfied with with this studio and were very satisfied with the resort. The size of our unit was perfect for us and we loved the new bed. We could tell that the tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom have been recently updated and we appreciated the nice granite counter tops. The main downside was however, in the first day or two of our stay, we couldn't figure out why the bottom of our feet were so black--turns out the hardwood and tile floors were not very clean, which I promptly fixed with a couple of scrubbings. It also looked as though it hadn't been dusted in a while, but all in all, easy things for me to fix. The appliances were clean and nicely updated. The Kaanapali Shores Resort is very centrally located and the resort is very well maintained with very friendly and helpful staff. We were within walking distance to great restaurants, grocery, and easy access to the boardwalk. We feel the studio unit is located perfectly for a 1-2 week stay, but since we were there for a month and spent quite a bit of time there, the location of this unit may not have been perfect for us. We slept every night with the sliding door open to take advantage of the wonderful breeze, but there was quite a bit of early morning noise. Directly below the unit there were daily morning deliveries, and the garbage/recycling area from the resort next door is located a few yards away, with garbage pick-up every morning. Epic Realty was wonderful to work with.The renting of the unit was seamless and they did a wonderful job of keeping us informed along the way. We will definitely go through Epic Realty on our next vacation."

"Time and money well spent!
This was my wife's first trip to Maui and my second, we are a low maintenance couple and suite #642 at the Aston Kaanapali Shores Resort more than met our expectations. It was clean and comfortable, and a great place to unwind at the end of another long, adventurous day. The kitchen layout was very functional, with many of the basic items already provided. The living area was simple and tidy, and the murphy bed was a surprisingly comfortable sleep. The bathroom could maybe use a little updating but again it was clean and served our needs just fine. There were two Tommy Bahama folding beach chairs in the closet (everyone in Maui seemed to have them) which allowed us to lounge comfortably on any beach we wanted to enjoy, and if chairs aren't your thing two large complimentary beach towels were provided in addition to the towels that were already provided by the resort itself. The suite didn't have a washer/dryer but the resort had machines available which did a great job for a total of about $2.25. Our contact Helen from Epic Realty LLC made the booking process really simple, she sent us directions to the resort along with an app that would allow us to access our booking agreement, check-in and check out procedures, things to see and do, nearby restaurants and recommended establishments. We were also contacted by a concierge who would help us book experiences for our trip. We chose not to use this service but it was nice that it was provided. The staff at the Kaanapali Shores were wonderful, we had access to all of the resort amenities, and they treated us with the same high quality that they provided to all of the their other guests even though we were staying in a privately owned suite. We plan to come back to Maui again next year and would not hesitate to rent suite #642 again. If you want a nice stay and don't want to pay for the high prices at some of the other hotels this is the place for you!!! What are you waiting for? It's Maui."

Location is very convenient to restaurants, shopping, Lahaina, etc. Property was clean and in good shape. Use of hotel pool and towel service was very convenient as there isn't much of a beachfront. Had to use hotel lobby for WiFi. No key for room safe. Unfortunately, weather was too cold to make use of the balcony."

"Convenient location/ adequate accommodation
Accommodations were very basic and adequate for 2 people (would be very crowded for 4). Loved the location and the attached hotel had good amenities that could be accessed such as parking($9.00 per day), pool, towels, fitness center ($10.00 per day), restaurant.
No room safe available and minor maintenance required on doors and locks. Appliances all worked although TV and coffee pot very dated. Great location close to grocery store, beaches, beach walk, snorkelling, etc. Also, ocean view was very minimal as the unit is at the far end of the property and angled to look over a parking lot and another hotel. Air conditioning worked really well."

"December 2014 Anniversary in Maui
Beautiful island! It's hard to be disappointed by anything in Maui. This little studio condo is charming. There is a tiny view however if a view is extremely important to you than you'll want to look for some place else, and of course pay more. However, our intention was not to spend lots of time in our room. This spot is perfect for an active couple or group of four who intend to get outside and explore the island. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need if you want to prepare all of your meals. We didn't really do that. We made coffee and ate fruit & yogurt in the morning, stored picnic foods for the afternoon and ate out most every night. If you're on a strict budget than prepare your own meals. Eating out gets expensive. The floors were sandy when we arrived so I had to do a thorough sweeping cause we wanted to walk around barefoot and not climb in bed with sandy feet. Nice, comfortable place. "

"Great Rental!
The studio was a great size for my husband and I. The room had everything we needed. I cooked breakfast every morning and ate outside on the balcony. Although the scenery wasn't the best, it was my favorite way to get up in the morning! The bed is not so comfortable, but it wasn't bad. we would definitely stay here again! "

"Kaanipali Shores - Review of Experience
We had asked on booking if the property was the same as the Aston Kaanipali villas, we were told yes, it was the same complex, but next door. We were part of a wedding group staying at the villas- turns out it was a mile and half away. Which left us right out of things, and complicated matters.
The room was mostly clean, but felt dirty. The pillow cases had drool marks and had a smell.
The door to the patio did not seal properly, and there was a CONSTANT howling noise- as it was a super windy time on the island.
The resort staff were friendly and the property was nice. The property management staff was extremely friendly and helpful, very attentive. I believe it was another person who gave us the wrong information about it being the same hotel."

Good resort. Family friendly. Need to have BBQ area at the front of the resort, not at the back behind tennis courts. That was the only disappointment with the property. Might affect our decision to stay there again. "

"624 Kaanapali Shores - small but comfortable
We stayed 6 nights in January 2014. Condo complex is on a beautiful quiet beach; great amenities and on site restaurant with reasonably priced tasty food. Condo unit itself with far view of ocean/mountains over the trees/condo (not beach view) but down below the balcony an ugly drainage ditch/parking lot/storage site so we didn't sit out much. Unit would not easily accommodate 4 people (sofa bed/murphy bed when open take up all the space, only 2 small towel racks, only 3 stools at bar counter/no table and not enough plates/bowls for 4) but very comfortable and more than adequate for 2 people. Epic staff Ann Marie was excellent - great communicator, enthusiastic and quick to want to correct deficiencies which were present when we arrived (missing items for kitchen and not adequately cleaned kitchen/floor) - can't say enough good things about her. Very happy overall for the price that we paid."
