Vieques is an island that is known as 'La Isla Nena' (little girl island) and 'Isabel Segunda' (Isabel II).Found in 1843 by Francisco Sainz, Vieques island is located between Puerto Rico and St. Thomas (United StatesVirgin Islands), and is separated from the southeast coast of Puerto Rico by approximately 8 miles of sea. There are also many other small cays (islets) that lie offshore of Vieques.
The island is filled with beauty and history. It is only 21 by 4 miles island, yet that is enough to make visitors always come back. The Arawak Indians once lived on the island and it was an infamous haven for pirates during the 17th century.
