St. Thomas is the most bustling out of these three Virgin Islands with its busiest port, Charlotte Amalie - the capital of the Virgin Islands named after the wife of King Christian V in 1691 - filled with cruise ships and shops galore. This exciting island holds an exquisite backdrop of hills, bays and coves filled with turquoise-blue waters, and more than forty beaches fringing the island. For an amazing view of the island, visit Blackbeard's Castle, atop Government Hill, to see the colorful m?nge of tropical foliage, red-roofed houses, and rich blue bay. Another beautiful view can be seen at Drake's Seat, a high point in the center of the island from which Sir Francis himself is said to have watched naval engagements. One of its most popular beaches is Magens Bay with its vast miles of powdery sand and palm trees. The one real surfing spot in the islands can be found at
Hull Bay, just west of Magens Bay, while windsurfers have a great choice on the eastern coast. For those whom want a little bit more privacy should visit the nearby uninhabited islets of Hassel Island and Great St. James. Another great location for a more relaxing time, visit Coki Bay, tucked snugly on the northeaster coast of the island, where the water is gleaming, the sandy beach is sparkling, and the fish are so friendly that they will eat out of your hand.
St. John's spectacular views of immaculate sugar white sands and crystal clear waters lure many people to this tropical island. Two-thirds of this island, though, is preserved by the
Virgin Islands National Park. Here you can go on beautiful hikes throughout the island. One the best hikes is the Bordeaux Mountain Trail, which leads to the summit of the island's highest peak. Horseback riding is an alternative to hiking for those wandering through the island forest. The national park encompasses surrounding waters and reefs, so you'll find excellent snorkeling and marine life. One of the most popular snorkeling spots is at Trunk Bay. Snuba, which is a cross between snorkeling and diving, is the latest trend on this island, where the snuber is attached to a raft of air through a long breathing tube. For those whom want more adventure, windsurfing is a great choice along the northern coast.
