When planning your beach vacation activities in Kauai, spend some time on the East side of this lush Hawaii island. This seaward side of the island is also known as the Coconut Coast. A visit to The Lydgate Beach Park is a must!
This is a really cool spot for families with children as it's safe, clean and conveniently located. It's easy to find on the Kuhio Highway at Leho Drive by mile marker 5. Waipouli Beach Resort is less than a mile away and it's less than 20 minutes away from several other Kauai vacation homes that are available to rent. Visitors of all ages will enjoy both the beach and lagoon at the park. The lagoon's calm waters are set in a large seawater pool protected by a stone breakwater. It's ideal for shallow swimming and beginning snorkeling. Rip currents are beyond the pool in the open ocean, so use caution.
In addition to the shallow swimming and the pristine beach there is the Kamalani Playground at the northern end of the park. It includes a large 16,000-sq-ft wooden castle with swings, slides, mirror mazes, and a suspension bridge. This playground castle will keep big and small people busy for hours. On the south end of the park, sits the Kamalani Kai Play Bridge, which is a huge wooden labyrinth of ramps, stairs and spiral slides. Also on the Park property is newly added sports fields, so don't forget your soccer ball. The beach park also includes changing rooms, restrooms, showers, drinking water, picnic pavilions, lifeguards, and plenty of parking.
