"Great Kona Location
Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet is an excellent location from which to explore the Big Island. The townhome is walking distance from one of the best snorkeling beaches on the island as well as a restaurants and shopping. Great two bedroom town home with direct view of the ocean and beach. Townhome has everything you need for your beach days (chairs, umbrella, etc.) and the community offers a great pool and outdoor grills. The community is beautiful, and very well cared for. Check in and out was easy and management was very responsive. Made for a great stay!"

"Great location!!
Arrival is easy, communication by the property manager is excellent. Unit is in a great, oceanfront location with a nice beach just steps away. The unit is fully outfitted including beach chairs and cooler! Appliances are newer, but the unit is very dated and a bit shabby. There are broken floor tiles and grout in the upstairs bathroom. The kitchen counter tile grout is stained so looks dirty. All the wood trim on the counters needs to be refinished. We like the convenience of the nearby shopping center and town in a quick 15 minute drive. Overall we would recommend with caveats."

"Peaceful Paradise
Sweet townhouse is just steps from the surf. Wonderful views from the big slider in main living area and out to the lanai, and from master bedroom. Management is tops - sent repairman within 30 minutes when refrigerator went down. Complex has clean pool area and nice tennis courts. This side of the complex is quiet. Kitchen has been thoughtfully outfitted for casual cooking. (though could use some new glassware)

"Disappointed
The overall condo was a huge disappointment. It is VERY outdatrd and in need of much deferred maintenance. The carpets had stains and everything is showing its age. It doesn't look like anything has been painted or upgraded for many years. The property itself is very nice and the view is fantastic. Just don't believe the pictures used in the adds. Very misleading."

The townhouse was beautiful, right on the water. I loved the path to the beach next to the property. I loved the sound of the waves at night. It was very clean and comfortable, the lanai was great, we spent a lot of time out there. We had a great stay and I would recommend the property management company, they were very available, helpful and professional.

"3 days of views
We really enjoyed the views from the Lanai. We saw a whale and the sunset during dinner one night.
The first aid kit came in handy unfortunately, but we were so glad to have it after slipping on a rock.
The chairs, boogie boards, flashlights, and beach towels were also great to have on hand. The communal pool was pleasant and clean. We would’ve used ping pong paddles if there had been any.
Access to the beach was as described. It was right there. No sea turtles this visit. The beach is rocky but a few steps from a sandier area with some shady sitting spots.
The main Kona tourist part of town, gift shops, restaurants, etc. was about a 12 min. drive. There was a grocery store about 3 min away.
The beds were very comfy.
At first we were worried about no AC, but in Jan. the temps were fine and we were usually out of the room during the hottest part of the day. We all slept fine at night with the windows open.
The sectional in the living room made it very easy to relax and visit with each other.
The kitchen was well equipped so we made our own shrimp tacos one night and had breakfast and lunch there often, watching the ocean. There were spices as well as utensils, cutlery, dishes, pans and skillets. The fridge is full sized with an ice maker.
We enjoyed the visit very much! "

"A beautiful seafront experience
The house is in a beautiful location. You can view the sunset seating in the patio or lying on your bed. The property was pretty clean. The only recommendation I would add is to specifically add in the rental listing across various sites that the unit does not have A/C. It only said it may or may not have an A/C.
The management company was very professional and responsive. Overall, only the A/C aspect not being clear, I would rate it as a 4 star experience."

Vacation home was nice right on the water with great access to the beach but the mattress needs to be changed it feels like your sleeping on sharp rocks also dish washer doesn’t work. We told the maintenance manager who stated it couldn’t be fixed until after we left. "

"Relaxing week in Kona area
Wonderful location with a shopping center just a block up the hill. Décor was a bit dated and no AC but was very clean and everything work just fine. Most of our time here at the condo was either spent on the lanai with a gorgeous view or sleeping (master bedroom had a great view also). the washer/dryer in the unit was very handy. "

"Nice place but a real sauna
This property could easily be given a 5 but I can't go above a 3 for one reason, there is no air conditioning so it's unbearable hot. We loved the location, the view, the amenities, and the community, but despite the home being directly on the ocean there was very little air flow and with no air conditioning the home never cooled down. It was so uncomfortable that none of us got any sleep the entire time we were there. There were several floor fans available, but none of them functioned. I cannot recommend staying here unless you really like it hot."

"Amazing Stay!
The rental was in a phenomenal location and we had plenty of space for our party of 4. The view from the master bedroom is absolutely breathtaking. The condo had chairs and boogie boards which were a great added bonus! Only thing to note is the condo does not have ac. When we stayed there, there were not many trade winds at the time so our condo was pretty warm when we were getting ready to go out for dinner. Make sure you keep all windows open and the condo will drop about 10 degrees!"

"Townhouse #3
This is such a lovely townhouse overlooking the ocean with your own little beach. We got to see sunsets every night from our lanai. Its close to downtown shopping but away from all the traffic. There is a large pool that was wonderful. And the washer and dryer was a plus. The grounds are maintained well and beautiful. I I could just sit on the lanai and watch the ocean and be happy. Knudsen and Associates were awesome. They were very helpful, attentative, and welcoming. Would absolutely stay again."

"Delightful Stay in Kona
Alaskan needed to get some sun. I loved the Surf and Racquet Club accommodations. They feel almost like being part of a neighborhood. The townhouse is oceanside with a gorgeous view and access to a lava filled beach. Friends and I spent several nights admiring the sunsets from the lanai. The property managers were super responsive to a couple of my needs during my stay. All in all, an AAA experience."

"Little slice of heaven!
Everything was perfect from the moment we checked in. Hawaiian music was playing as we entered the townhome with the view of the ocean from the front door! The place was clean and nicely decorated with all you could need including beach chairs, boogie boards, and fins. The sunsets were spectacular every night and we fell asleep to the sounds of waves hitting the rocks below. Pure relaxation!"

"Fabulous Location - Improvements to property are needed
We love the surf & racquet property and this unit's location is among the best. The interior is very clean, but thoroughly tired. Even without updating the interior, there are so many ways it could be improved. The beds and pillows are simply awful, towels and bathmats so old, screens don't fit properly (come on in bugs), one boogie board is cracked in half (unusable), another doesn't have a strap. Stains on the walls, scratches in the non-stick pans, inventory said there was a rice cooker, but there wasn't. Stove didn't work when we arrived but they sent someone to fix it that day. We had a wonderful time but won't stay again because of the beds. We've booked another unit for next year even though we like this unit's location better. "

"Great unit with amazing oceanfront views
We were very happy with our accommodations during our visit to the Big Island. The location is right on the water, with a pathway to the beach. It is close to the grocery store and a short drive to Kona.
The owners obviously have pride in their unit and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay (kitchen stocked with needed cookware, books to read, boogie boards and chairs for trips to other local beaches, soft towels). Cable TV and internet worked great. The unit was clean and the complex was well-taken care of.
It was hot and muggy (mid 80s) but the ceiling fans and other fans helped keep it comfortable, as well as the ocean breezes that came every afternoon.
Due to no fault of the owner of our unit, the unit next door was undergoing renovations so there was tile cutting and dry wall installation during the day, so we needed to keep some windows closed due to the noise. It was unfortunate, but understandable that maintenance needs to be done.
If we go back to the Big Island, we would happily stay at this unit again."

Had a wonderful stay at townhouse 3! Loved waking up to the view each morning and hearing the waves crash at night. Thankful for the extra electric fans as it was hot and humid during our visit. Noticed a maintenance item and the mgmt company took care of it that day! Can't wait to return!"

"Best Sunset Views!
This unit is a great condo for small families and people who want to enjoy the sound of the ocean and their own private beach. There are petroglyphs just feet away to view in the hardened lava and turtles who frequent the area. Kona was experiencing record heat the week we came so it was very hot and humid. We were really missing our AC that we can't live without in Phoenix."

"Relaxation In Hawaii
Enjoyed our stay here very much. Lanai furniture is different than in the picture, but view is still the same. Had a great time wandering down to the tidepools at low tide, and did see three turtles one morning. The only issue that we had was with the fans. We are from Alaska, and the weather was very hot and humid, and one of the portable fans did not work, and the chain on the overhead fan had broken (the chains tend to get corroded from the sea air and seem to be easy to break). My husband fixed the overhead chain on so that it worked while we were there, and the management got us a new portable fan right away. They were very responsive to our phone calls."

We loved the location. Good air circulation but we did need to close window coverings to keep it cool. The townhouse is clean but dated. There is corrosion on the door knobs and locks. The lanai shade broke but was replaced quickly. The kitchen is VERY small even for minor cooking. "

The setting of this condo is outstanding. We enjoyed hearing the surf while falling asleep and again while waking up. The condo was well furnished and close to good snorkeling. We made an error in booking and discovered that we needed to check out of another condo in an hour; we called Knutson and they found this place for us--right next door. Thank you Knutson and Associates! This is a lovely location. Decor in this condo is a bit dated but comfortable and having both an inside and outside table was great, the stove worked well (we like to cook) & the rental included a Scrabble game! We also enjoyed the tennis courts and pool. "

"Almost perfect
We stayed 10 days in this condo from 10/17-27. The location is perfect Ocenfront townhouse and close to restaurants and grocery store. The only downside is no AC. It gets really hot and humid, even with electric fan. We used 3 electric fan plus the ceiling fan in one bedroom and it still uncomfortable . It’s makes it it very hard to sleep at night. We got sick developed cough and colds because it was really hot. Definitely not using this condo anymore."

Great location (would have been nice to have the hedge off lanai towards ocean trimmed down a foot for better viewing. Kitchen well stocked. Would have been great to have a few beach chairs (there were 2 and both broken) along with a cooler. Great living room furniture! If TV watching is important to you - only 1 pretty small one in living room. No beach towels or mats. Quiet and comfortable."

The property is very nice and location is great. We found the staff at the racket club very helpful.
But there are several fees: There is a reservation fee of $59, a cleaning fee of $125 and a service fee of $84.60. Taken together these are pretty steep. At another place in the Big Island, we paid $75 for cleaning fee and no other fees."

The location was fantastic. No surprises at all. The townhome looked exactly like the photos. We loved the view from the ocean facing bedroom. The unit is just a short walk to Kahaluu State Park which is a great place for first time snorkelers. If we return to Kona we will seek out this unit.
The site manager was very helpful as we weren't sure where unit 3 was. He called Knutson for us. The title on our check-in instructions says "Keauhou Kona Surf & Racket Club 3". No mention of apartment or townhome so a little confusing for first time renters of this unit. Even the site manager wasn't sure where we were staying. Grin, we'll know where to go the next time."

"Kona vacation
We have been staying at Surf & Racquet #3 for about 16 years, partially because we love the location and because we've gotten to be friends with the owners. Although the unit is not always as clean as we'd like it to be, and we are aware of how difficult that is in a tropical climate, Blake has been particularly helpful with that and with arranging repairs on malfunctioning fixtures and appliances. He even arranged a second visit from the cleaner which we very much appreciated. We'll likely be returning for another 16 years."

An older yet well maintained, peaceful property - obviously a loved holiday home. The constant crashing of the waves hypnotic to the senses, and the bobbing and tumbling of the turtles causing an addictive glueing of the eyes to the immediate tumbling ocean views."

"10 Days in Paradise!
We just returned from our 10 night stay at Keauhou Surf & Racquet Club. The view and proximity to the ocean was incredible. We drank Kona Coffee every morning from the lanai while watching the waves roll in. We encountered many sea turtles, beautiful fish, and crabs on our morning strolls. For the location alone we would stay here again. The unit was clean and well stocked with a starter supply of everything we needed. There is a shopping plaza near by in the resort that has absolutely everything you would need. The pool was very nice with a large shallow end. We had our 5 and 6 year olds with us and they loved the pool. With that being said, this seemed more of an adult community to me in that there were only a few families with children that we saw. Our kids were very well behaved but we still got some glances from older folks at the pool. My husband was not thrilled to he without air conditioning but we would willing sacrifice the AC again for the location. "

"Breathtaking Ocean View and Beauitful Property
We were so impressed by the condo inside and out. All the people at Knutson were very nice and accommodating. They handled everything easily and were extremely professional. The condo was nicely decorated and fully equipped. Our only two requests would have been more fans, especially downstairs in the late afternoon and perhaps a television in the bedroom. We would definitely stay at this condo again and will use Knutson for property rentals in the future."

"Nice Kona Condo Basecamp
The Staff was professional. Instructions for entry to the club and for keys were clear. The location is right near the beach with an onshore breeze through the windows and a path outside for beach access. The beach is rocky and pounded with rough surf, though this is typical of other nearby beaches. We used the outdoor patio everyday for breakfast and for a relaxing lunch/dinner at other times. It also served as a good basecamp for surfing lessons in Kona and day trips to Hapuna beach and night viewing of the active volcano at Mt. Kileua. Costco is nearby. The two bedrooms were perfect for the four of us--my wife and I and two daughters. Wifi service was good.
The only downsides is minor and easily correctable: There is a small few-inch downward step near the inside of the entry way that we kept stumbling over until our daughter put a warning sign on it as a reminder. The fix for this is easy--put some reflective tape along the step as a reminder. I strongly suggest the owner make this minor improvement for liability reasons. if nothing else. "

Townhouse 3 is a well equipped accommodation in a quiet area 5 miles south of Kona. We loved the location and the number of activities nearby such as snorkelling, tennis, paddle boarding, kayaking, manta swimming, etc. The unit is very home like with lots of extras. We have already booked a return visit.

Great location...just need a little more of supply esp dish soap...otherwise the place is great...well supplied...Enjoyed the visit and the stay. It needs to have a big recycle bin next the trash bin...the only recycle bin we found is next to the pool/office. Also the property needs some upgrade...the window blinds at the other room is broken... bathtub upstairs needs more cleaning...sort of dirty... but downstairs shower is accessible and clean."

"Beautiful setting, good location and value
We were glad to have rented the Surf & Racquet Club Unit 3. The setting was picturesque with the ocean and sea turtles right outside our unit. In addition, the location was handy for good shopping and a Manta Ray dive for my husband and son. Although we are used to air conditioned sleeping, the fans and wind from the lanai helped us be able to sleep relatiely comfortably in August. "

"Townhouse too hot and buggy
I guess to the vegetation all around and this being on the ground floor, every night there were huge roaches in the kitchen. I left no food out and cleaned the counters with bleach every night but to no avail. It was also very hot-no air flow I actually went outand bought my own fans so I could survive. I have stayed at Surf &Racquet many times but always in the condos. Never iwill I stay in the town houses again. The only good thing was the view but could not enjoy it on the lanai due to the bugs"

"Best Value on the Big Island
This was our 8th trip to Hawaii. 4th to the Big Island. 4th time at Kona Surf & Racket club. 2nd time in this unit. At least 2 weeks each trip. We have been all over the Big Island. Compared this unit to lots of other options. For the price you can not get anything close to this nice of a unit and location. You are on the water. Unit is very nice. The location is great. Close to good snorkeling. Good entertainment. Good shopping. Lots of activities. This trip I caught a sword fish. Swam with dolphins and Manta Rays. Zip lined. Snorkeled almost every day. Watched whales. Watched lots of hula. Ate too much good food. Went to the volcano. Went to Hilo twice. Hikes to Captain Cook monument. Lots of other stuff from this location.Drank fresh Kona coffee every day, grown near by. Every day you wake up to the sound of waves and birds. The smell of roasting coffee and flowers. I wish I was still there. A month would not be enough."

Great experience ! It had a great location. Sea turtles were seen almost every morning!!lwe loved going to sleep listening to the waves crashing! The only negative was tiny ants but every place has that! Also came with everything you need. "

"Beautiful location
We love the view, especially from master bedroom. The staff is very helpfull of explaining things. When we had a problem with ice maker, they sent someone to fixed it the next day. However we did find the dishwasher is old and dishes weren't clean. There was some kind of white powder all over the place when we first arrived which we don't know if they were salt air related? "

"Sept 2012 Rental
My wife and I spend the month of Sept 2012 Keauhou Kona Surf & Racket Club, Townhouse #3. We could not have been more pleased. When we arrived, the unit was clean and looked great. The location is amazing, walk right out on to the beach. During our stay, we had a couple of opportunities to talk with Knutson & Associates, with the always being very responsive and professional. I would highly recommend the unit we rented and Knutson & Associates to my friends and family."

The unit was extremely clean, well appointed and nicely laid out. My only recommendation would be to have some beach things ( mats, chairs, towels ) for the guests. I left behind a chair and beach towel for future renters."

"Big Island Love!
I was on the Big Island the first two weeks of Sept. 2011 and what a blessing it was! This townhouse sits right on the ocean - heaven! I spent many mornings sitting on the lanai watching the dolphins and/or at the waters edge to watch sea turtles in the cove. If you are in the front bedroom (not on the ocean side), you can still hear the waves at night - I loved that. This home is in a great location, close enough to enjoy Kona, but far enough away (maybe 4 miles?) that you don't have to deal with any noise/crowds of people. All you hear when at this townhouse are the birds and the ocean. A shopping center is within walking distance and a Farmer's Market at the shopping center on Saturday and another at a nearby hotel on Wednesday - we always had organic, delicious veggies and fruit. On the ocean side of the house there is a big tree that drops fruit(or nuts?) that land on the roof and can be a bit surprising, especially at night but we got use to it. There is also a great bay about 1/2 mile down the road with beautiful snorkeling. Make sure the management company gives you the key code to the townhouse AND the front gate. We were only given the keycode to the townhouse not the front gate which was kinda frustrating after 12+ hours of travel. We were able to follow someone in and later asked a resident for the code. The townhouse is roomier than the pictures offer, there were three adults in our party and there was plenty of space. The living furniture is a bit clunky/big for the living room but it really doesn't matter cause you'll be in Hawaii - ENJOY!!! "
